Effect of static mixer geometry on flow mixing and pressure drop in marine SCR applications

Flow mixing and pressure drop characteristics for marine selective catalytic reduction applications were investigated numerically to develop an efficient static mixer. Two different mixers, line- and swirl-type, were considered. The effect of vane angles on the relative intensity, uniformity index, and pressure drop was investigated in a swirl-type mixer; these parameters are dramatically affected by the mixer geometry. The presence of a mixer, regardless of the mixer type, led to an improvement of approximately 20% in the mixing performance behind the mixer in comparison to not having a mixer. In particular, there was a tradeoff relationship between the uniformity and the pressure drop. Considering the mixing performance and the pressure drop, the swirl-type mixer was more suitable than the line-type mixer in this study.
재가노인 돌봄제공자를 위한 모바일 애플리케이션 콘텐츠 분석: 국내 이용 앱을 중심으로

본 연구는 재가노인 돌봄제공자를 위한 모바일 앱의 주요 특징과 기능을 파악하고 주요 콘텐츠를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 앱 분석을 위해 Android와 iOS에서 관련 키워드를 검색하여 820개의 앱이 검색되었고, 선정기준 및 제외기준에 따라 40개의 앱을 선정하였다. 앱 플랫폼은 Android 27개(67.5%), Android/iOS 13개(32.5%)였고, 앱 콘텐츠 분석 결과 주요 콘텐츠는 일정관리, 건강상태 모니터링, 재가노인 홈케어 교육, 돌봄제공자를 위한 교육, 정보제공(일방향), 의사소통(양방향), 위치확인, 응급상황 알람, 지불관리, 환경 모니터링이었다. mHealth 환경에서 많은 돌봄제공자들이 여러 앱을 사용하고 있으나 돌봄제공자의 필요에 맞는 기능을 유기적으로 통합한 앱은 존재하지 않았다. 돌봄제공자의 다양한 요구를 반영하여 편의성과 효율성을 증진할 수 있는 앱을 마련하고, 돌봄제공자의 노인 돌봄 역량강화를 위한 교육적 콘텐츠 및 돌봄제공자 간 원활한 의사소통을 위한 앱을 구축할 필요가 있다. The purpose of this study is to identify the main characteristics and functions of mobile apps for caregivers of community-dwelling older adults and to analyze major contents. For app analysis, 820 apps were searched by searching for related keywords on Android and iOS, and 40 apps were selected according to the selection criteria and exclusion criteria. The main contents were calendaring, health condition monitoring, education for home care, education for caregiver, information sharing/alarm (one way), communication (two way), GPS location tracking, emergency alarm, payment management, environment monitoring. In the mHealth environment, many caregivers use apps, but there was no application that organically integrated functions to meet the needs of caregivers. It is required to prepare an app that can enhance convenience and efficiency by reflecting various needs of care providers. In particular, it is necessary to prepare an app for communication between caregivers and educational contents to strengthen older adults care capabilities of caregivers.

Purpose: To systematically review research articles that examined factors affecting Korean clinical nurses’ intention to stay in their jobs. Methods: Articles related to Korean clinical nurses and published both in Korean and English languages were retrieved from computerized databases using a manual search. Data extraction, quality assessment, and analysis including meta-analysis were completed. Results: The review included 15 studies. There was strong evidence for the effects of 19 factors on Korean clinical nurses’ intention to stay. Factors were categorized into three major categories; demographic, extrinsic, and intrinsic factors. In the meta-analysis of 10 articles, career experience of more than 6 years was the main factor that led to high intention to stay (OR=-0.5, p<.001). Job performance related factors (28.1%) and nursing work environment or organizational climate for caring (21.9%) were studied as the main extrinsic factors. Job related attitude (28.1%) including job satisfaction and organizational commitment and nursing value (15.6%) were studied as the main intrinsic factors. Conclusion: Expert nurses are more likely to retain their current positions as well as quality workplace environments or psychological capitals. Healthcare organizations must be responsible for improving professional and psychological capital of beginner nurses and affecting change for a warm organizational environment.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate predictors of nurses’ patient safety behavior during inter-hospital transfer. The study was based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Methods: A descriptive survey design was used. Data were collected with a self-administrated 39-item questionnaire completed by 111 nurses from a university hospital in Seoul, South Korea. The questionnaire was developed based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) guideline and included measure of self- reported past patient safety behaviors, intentions, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral controls. Ethical approval was granted by the hospital review board. Hierarchical regression analyses were carried out. Results: The average score of patient safety behavior was 4.21±0.63 (5 point scale). The TPB variables explained 49.9%of the variance in patient safety behavior. Intention and subjective norm were the most significant predictors of nurses’ patient safety behavior. Attitude was related to nurses’ patient safety behavior. Conclusion: TPB variables predicted the nurses’ patient safety behavior during inter-hospital transfer of patients except for perceived behavioral controls. The results of this study suggest that better strategies for subjective norms and intentions related to patient safety behavior will be helpful in safety culture reform.

A thermoelectric generator (TEG) is a solid-state device that converts thermal energy directly into electrical energy. They have no moving parts inside, so they have a long operating life, are noiseless, and can operate reliably. They are also environmentally friendly, as they are pollution-free. Thermoelectric generators have great potential for harvesting ambient energy. this study aims to design a cooling system that attaches to the cold side of the thermoelectric modules. Three cases are considered based on the coolant inlet and outlet locations and flow path geometry. The average temperature of cooling system surface, temperature unifomlity, and pressure drop between the coolant inlet and outlet are selected as the performance indicators of the cooling system. Type 1-1, which had the lowest pressure drop between inlet and outlet, but the highest average cooling surface temperature and temperature uniformity, was judged to be the best performing case.
