Background: Remimazolam is a novel ultrashort-acting benzodiazepine that has recently become available for general anesthesia. However, the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) associated with remimazolam remains unknown. In this propensity score-matched, retrospective, observational study, we compared the rates of PONV between remimazolam and propofol.Methods: In this retrospective observational study, propensity score-matching was performed to minimize selection bias. Patients who received total intravenous anesthesia with remimazolam or propofol at the Hamamatsu University Hospital between August 2020 and July 2021 were enrolled in the study. Data on patient demographics, anesthetic agents, and PONV within the first 24 h were collected and analyzed.Results: Of the 1,239 patients who met the study selection criteria, 585 received remimazolam and 684 received propofol. After propensity score matching, 333 matched pairs were further analyzed. Patient demographics and the anesthetic agents used were comparable between the matched cohorts. The incidence of PONV was significantly higher in the remimazolam group than in the propofol group (35% vs. 21%, P < 0.001).Conclusions: The incidence of PONV is higher with remimazolam anesthesia than with propofol anesthesia. The findings of this study require confirmation in larger prospective randomized controlled trials.
Clinical outcomes of permanent stenting with endoscopic ultrasound gallbladder drainage

Background/Aims: Endoscopic ultrasound gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD) is gaining attention as a treatment method for cholecystitis. However, only a few studies have assessed the outcomes of permanent stenting with EUS-GBD. Therefore, we evaluated the clinicaloutcomes of permanent stenting using EUS-GBD. Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center cohort study. The criteria for EUS-GBD at our institution are a high risk for surgery,inability to perform surgery owing to poor performance status, and inability to obtain consent for emergency surgery. EUS-GBD wasperformed using a 7-Fr double-pigtail plastic stent with a dilating device. The primary outcomes were the recurrence-free rate of cholecystitisand the late-stage complication-avoidance rate. Secondary outcomes were technical success, clinical success, and procedural adverseevents. Results: A total of 41 patients were included in the analysis. The median follow-up period was 168 (range, 10–1,238) days. The recurrence-free and late-stage complication-avoidance rates during the follow-up period were 95% (38 cases) and 90% (36 cases), respectively. There were only two cases of cholecystitis recurrence during the study period. Conclusions: EUS-GBD using double-pigtail plastic stent was safe and effective with few complications, even in the long term, in patientswith acute cholecystitis.

Study Design: Retrospective study. Purpose: To investigate the relationship between preoperative total spinal sagittal alignment and the early onset of adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) after single-level posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) in patients with normal sagittal spinal alignment. Overview of Literature: Postoperative early-onset ASD is one of the complications after L4–L5 PLIF, a common surgical procedure for lumbar degenerative disease in patents without severe sagittal imbalance. A better understanding of the preoperative characteristics of total spinal sagittal alignment associated with early-onset ASD could help prevent the condition. Methods: The study included 70 consecutive patients diagnosed with lumbar degenerative disease who underwent single-level L4–L5 PLIF between 2011 and 2015. They were divided into two groups based on the radiographic progression of L3–L4 degeneration after 1-year follow-up: the ASD and the non-ASD (NASD) group. The following radiographic parameters were preoperatively and postoperatively measured: sagittal vertebral axis (SVA), thoracic kyphosis (TK), lumbar lordosis, pelvic tilt, and pelvic incidence (PI). Results: Eight of the 70 patients (11%) experienced ASD after PLIF (three males and five females; age, 64.4±7.7 years). The NASD group comprised 20 males and 42 females (age, 67.7±9.3 years). Six patients of the ASD group showed decreased L3–L4 disc height, one had L3–L4 local kyphosis, and one showed both changes. Preoperative SVA, PI, and TK were significantly smaller in the ASD group than in the NASD group (p<0.05). Conclusions: A preoperative small SVA and TK with small PI were the characteristic alignments for the risk of early-onset ASD in patients without preoperative severe sagittal spinal imbalance undergoing L4–L5 single-level PLIF.

Monte Carlo simulation is widely used for predicting ion implantation profiles in amorphous targets. Here, we compared Monte Carlo simulation results with a vast database of ion implantation secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), and showed that the Monte Carlo data sometimes deviated from the experimental data. We modified the electron stopping power model, calibrated its parameters, and reproduced most of the database. We also demonstrated that Monte Carlo simulation can accurately predict profiles in a low energy range of around 1keV once it is calibrated in the higher energy region.

Ka-Band Equipment for KOREASAT-3

NEC Corporation developed and supplied Ka-Band Equipment (IFA, C-SW, Ka-LNA, Hybrid, CH-AMP) for KOREASAT-3. The Ka-LNA has the performance of 2.1dB noise figure and 34dB gain using NE272 GaAs HEMT Transistors at 30GHz band. The CH-AMP is a 20GHz band channel amplifier and has the two selectable operation modes of FGM (Fixed Gain Mode) and ALC (Auto Level Control mode). The IFA (Input Filter Assembly) consists of 30GHz waveguide band pass filter and test coupler. The WG-SW is a 30GHz DP-DT waveguide switch. The Hybrid is a 20GHz 3dB directional coupler. The detail design and the test results of the Ka-band Units for KOREASAT-3 are described in the full paper.
Mobile Robot Teleoperation via Multi Robot Sensor Network

This paper discusses a mobile robot teleoperation system via an Multi-Robot Sensor Network (MRSN) that consists of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and multiple mobile robots. For this purpose?? the teleoperation interface server that controls communication between an operator and robots via WSN was developed and a modifiedrouting protocol based on AODV-uu was installed to MRSN. The operator can teleoperate mobile robot directly and indirectly using this system. The teleoperation system using two mobile robots and WSN composed of five small LinuxPCs was developed?? and teleoperation using this system was demonstrated. Communication performance wasconfirmed to evaluate proposed protocol.
