This study's aim was to evaluate the safety of daily consumption of Kaempferia parviflora extract (KPE) using a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study with 52 recruited healthy Japanese subjects. Each subject received five KPE tablets (containing 150 mg of KPFORCE™/tablet) or placebo daily for 4 weeks. There were no adverse events related to KPE intake or any abnormalities compared with placebo group in anthropometric, cardiovascular, blood, and urine parameters during the course of the study. Thus, daily KPE ingestion was found to be safe in healthy Japanese men and women.
Perception of Finger Angle Position in Grip-type Haptic Display based on Grasping Force

In this study, we propose a novel grip-type haptic display for controlling a virtual (or robotic) hand (Fig. 1). This grip-type haptic display enables us to control a virtual hand and perceive haptic information based on a reactive force and a spatially distributed tactile feedback. Because this proposed display does not need any actuators to produce the reactive force, a simple haptic display is developed. In a grip-type haptic display, it is difficult to perceive the finger position because of the fixed position of the user’ fingers. However, we consider that it is possible to perceive the finger position by means of the effort exerted. Therefore, we performed an experiment to discriminate the applied force and confirm that the force discrimination threshold was sufficiently small. Then, we constructed a one-fingered prototype using an electrotactile display. Using this prototype, we qualitatively confirmed that the reactive force with the spatially distributed tactile feedback can produce dynamically changing haptic information.

This study reviewed the diagnosis accuracy and evaluation criteria of the fall risk assessment questionnaire that proved validity through factor analysis in previous studies. The purpose of this study was to diagnose high-risk groups and propose personal fall risk profiles for the Korean community-dwelling elderly. The participants of this study were 439 elderly people living in S, U, B, and Y cities Korea (mean age 75.0 ± 5.7 years). Receiver operating characteristic analysis was conducted to review the accuracy of the fall risk assessment and evaluation criteria of the FRA. The results showed that the four sub-factors of the FRA: ‘Potential for fall’, ‘Disease and physical symptoms’, ‘Environment’ and ‘Physical function’, can effectively diagnose the fall risk of the community-dwelling elderly. The evaluation criteria was presented based on the sensitivity and specificity results. In addition, as a result of analyzing the patterns by the sub factors of the fall risk, the high-risk group accounted for 80% of the elderly who had problems with two or more factors. Therefore, the four sub-factors of FRA can effectively diagnose the fall risk level, and could be present individual fall risk profiles based on the evaluation criteria. 이 연구에서는 요인분석을 통해 타당성이 입증된 낙상위험평가 설문항목의 진단 정도와 평가기준을 검토하여 지역 재가 노인의 낙상고위험군을 진단하고 개인별 낙상리스크 프로파일을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상자는 S시, U시, B시, Y시 거주 우리나라 지역 재가 노인 439명을 대상으로 하였다(평균연령 75.0±5.7세). FRA의 낙상위험진단정도와 평가기준을 검토하기 위해 ROC분 석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 FRA의 하위요인인 ‘낙상잠재성’, ‘질병과 신체증상’, ‘환경’ 및 ‘신체기능’의 4가지 하위 요인은 지역재가노인 의 낙상 위험을 효율적으로 진단할 수 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 민감도와 특이도 결과를 바탕으로 요인별 평가기준을 제시하였다. 또한 낙상하위요인별 패턴을 분석한 결과 낙상 고위험군의 경우 두 가지 요인 이상에 문제를 가지고 있는 노인이 전체의 80%를 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상으로, FRA의 4가지 하위 요인은 낙상위험정도를 효율적으로 진단할 수 있으며, 평가기준을 바탕으로 개인별 낙상위험프로파일을 제시할 수 있어 우리나라 지역 재가 노인의 낙상예방프로그램 구축을 위한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이다.
WEAR AND DEFORMATION OF NOZZLE BODY SEAT OF DIESEL FUEL INJECTOR

Wear and deformation occur in the body seat of diesel fuel injector nozzles, thereby affecting fuel spray behaviors and injection characteristics. In this study, the effects of body seat temperature, test duration, temperature increase duration, tempering temperature, and tempering duration on the nozzle body seat are investigated using an injector testing device. Surface roughness measurements using a nano search microscope and hardness measurements of the nozzle body seat are performed to investigate the textural and physical characteristics of the nozzle body seat. In addition, optical measurements via optical microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy are performed to investigate the topographical information and microstructure of the nozzle body seat. The results show that the increase in wear and deformation is related to the higher test temperature and duration. Additionally, the tempering technique can suppress the deformation of the nozzle body seat.
Autoignition and Combustion of Natural Gas in 4 Stroke HCCI Engine

Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is regarded as next generation combustion method in terms of high thermal efficiency and low emissions. It is difficult to control auto ignition timing and combustion duration of since they are controlled primarily by chemical kinetics of the air-fuel mixture. In this study, experiment work and chemical kinetics calculation were carried out to clarify the effects of equivalence ratio, intake temperature and intake pressure on autoignition and combustion. Autoignition occured when the mass averaged gas temperature reached a certain temperature regardless of equivalence ratio, intake temperature and intake pressure. To realize high thermal efficiency and low THC, CO emissions, it is necessary to prepare operation conditions that maximum mass averaged gas temperature is around 1500K.<br/> <br/>

The objective of this study is to investigate the catalytic performance of Cu-zeolite catalysts supported on various types of zeolites (chabazite, MFI, and BEA) for selective catalytic reduction with C3H6. 2Cu/ZSM-5 exhibited a nearly 70% de-NOx performance at 360 °C, Cu/SSZ-13 and Cu/BETA exhibited less than 60%. The loading of Cu also exhibited different de-NOx performances, which were related to the chemical states of Cu. The isolated Cu2+ ion was favorable to the NOx reduction compared to the bulk CuOx species. The effects of O2, CO2 concentrations and hydrothermal aging were investigated for the 2Cu/ZSM-5 catalyst.
Teleoperation System with Haptic Feedback for Physical Interaction with Remote Environment

The paper focuses on the teleoperation system TeleTA with haptic feedback designed to realizehapticcommunication with remote human, to achieve high level of maneuverability of robot arm in unstructured environment,and to increase effectiveness of physical Human-Robot interaction. The human operator directs the robot arm to thetarget position, while manipulator sensory system provides safe physical interaction with environment. In order toachieve awareness of collision, to support operator with valuable information (stiffnessand shape of contacting object),and to realize robot-mediated haptic communication, we developedthe innovative tactile and haptic displays, namely,BraTact (for presenting the cutaneous information) and FlexTorque (for presenting the kinaethetic feedback).
