<P>This study examined the efficacy of poly(NiPAAm-co-AAc) as an injectable drug delivery vehicle and a cell therapeutic agent in the form of a supporting matrix for the chondrogenic differentiation of rabbit chondrocytes. The hydrogel constructs, which consisted of embedded cells co-encapsulating dexamethasone (Dex) and TGF β-1 or unloaded Dex, were used as controls to determine the effects of Dex and TGF β-1 on chondrogenic differentiation. The level of Dex and TGF β-1 released was monitored using a bioimaging method. The amount of Dex released from hydrogel was faster than that of TGF β-1. TGF β-1 was present in hydrogel for more than 4 weeks after the injection. The level of the cartilage associated ECM proteins was examined by immunohistochemical staining for collagen type II as well as by Safranin-O and Alcian blue (GAG) staining. These results highlight the potential of a thermo-reversible hydrogel mixed with the chondrocytes and differentiation delivery material for applications in neocartilage formation. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. <P>It has been recognized that the sympathetic nervous system is activated in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and abnormal sympathetic hyperactivity leads to worsening of PAH via endothelial dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to examine whether sympathetic ganglion block (SGB) can treat PAH by increasing the availability of nitric oxide (NO). PAH was induced in rats by 50 mg/kg of subcutaneous monocrotaline. After 2 weeks, daily injections of ropivacaine into the left superior cervical ganglion were repeated for 14 days (monocrotaline-SGB group). Monocrotaline group received sham SGB with saline, whereas control group received saline instead of monocrotaline. PAH was evident in monocrotaline group, with right ventricular systolic pressures (47±4 mm Hg) that were higher than those of controls (17±2 mm Hg), whereas SGB significantly attenuated monocrotaline-induced PAH (35±4 mm Hg). The right/left ventricular mass ratios exhibited similar changes to those seen with right ventricular pressures. Heart rate variability showed significantly higher sympathetic activity in the monocrotaline group. Microscopy revealed a higher proportion of muscular arteries with thicker medial walls in the monocrotaline group, which was attenuated by SGB. Monocrotaline induced arginase hyperactivity, which was in turn decreased by SGB-induced endothelial NO synthase activation. SGB restored monocrotaline-induced hypoactivity of superoxide dismutase. In conclusion, SGB could suppress PAH and the remodeling of pulmonary arteries via inactivation of arginase and reciprocal elevation of NO bioavailability, thus attenuating disproportionate hyperactivation of the sympathetic nervous system.</P>

본 연구에서는 키넥트와 아두이노 초음파센서를 이용하여 야구 경기 시 발생하는 센서 데이터를 획득하여 스트라이크 판단이 가능한 알고리즘 및 디바이스를 개발하였다. 개발된 디바이스는 야구 경기장 홈플레이트로 사용하며 스트라이크, 볼의 경우에 대해 판단하도록 하였다. 판단에는 스트라이크 존을 측정하기 위해 키넥트의 skeleton tracking 예제로 관절을 측정해 좌표를 알아내고 아두이노 초음파센서를 사용하여 스트라이크를 판단하도록 했다.
A Case Report of En-Plaque Meningioma Presenting with Proptosis of the Ipsilateral Eye

Purpose: Meningioma en plaque is a rare subgroup of meningioma that usually exhibits exophthalmos as its presenting symptom. Meningioma en plaque has a female predominance. We report a case of sphenoidal meningioma en plaque in a male patient who presented with proptosis of the ipsilateral eye. Case summary: A 58-year-old man presented with proptosis of his left eye. Exophthalmometry measurements were 17 mm on the right eye and 19 mm on the left eye. His visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and extraocular movements were normal. There was no sign of lid retraction in either eye. Non-contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed an approximately 2 cmsized, well-defined, soft tissue density mass in the lateral extraconal space of the left orbit. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a 3.9 x 3.7 x 2.5 cm-sized, T1 isointense and T2 iso- to hyper-intense, relatively homogeneously well-enhancing mass in the left middle cranial fossa extending to the left lateral extraconal space via the superior orbital fissure. The patient underwent Gamma knife radiosurgery for the meningioma and was postoperatively stable without complications. Conclusions: The intracranial lesion, meningioma, can easily be missed on CT imaging because meningiomas are usually isodense compared to the cerebrum. Thus, contrast-enhanced MRI should be performed in order to differentiate patients with orbital masses on non-enhanced CT scans.
