We hypothesized that supplementing finishing diets with palm oil would promote adipogenic gene expression but depress stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) gene expression in intramuscular (i.m.) adipose tissues of Hanwoo steers during fattening period (from 16 to 32 mon of age). Fourteen Hanwoo steers were allotted randomly to 2 groups of 7 steers based on initial BW and fed either a basal diet (control) or the basal diet supplemented with 5% palm oil (BDSP). At slaughter, i.m. adipose tissue was harvested for analysis of adipogenic gene expression and fatty acid composition. There were no differences in BW or average daily gain between treatment groups. <P>Intercellular signalling communication between adipose and muscle tissue has been investigated. To test the effect of muscle cells on adipogenic gene expression, we utilised an in vitro co-culture system, in which fat (3T3-L1) and muscle (L-6) cells were physically separated but chemically exposed each other via insert with 0.4??m porous membrane. When 3T3-L1 and L-6 cells reached at 80 and 40% confluence, respectively in separate wells, L-6 cells grown in insert were transferred onto 6-well plates where 3T3-L1 cells were being grown. When both cells were fully differentiated in co-culture plates, morphology of 3T3-L1 was examined by staining with Oil-red-O. Activity of glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPDH) and adipogenic gene expression including lipoprotein lipase (LPL), adipsin, GPDH, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein (C/EBPα) were analysed. The presence of muscle cells during preadipocyte differentiation inhibited (P?<?0.05) lipogenesis by suppressing lipogenic gene expression including LPL, adipsin and GPDH. Furthermore, GPDH activity was also decreased (P?<?0.05) in 3T3-L1 cells by the presence of L-6 cells. These results suggest that presence of muscle cells suppresses adipogenic differentiation by inhibiting the adipogenic gene expression and GPDH activity in the muscle and fat cell co-culture system.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Feed ingredients used in swine diets contain various levels and availabilities of nutrients. Nutritional precision evaluation of each ingredient is necessary for formulating diets of pigs. Especially, phosphorous (P) is one of important nutrients for metabolism. However, current data of P digestibility were most apparent digestibility. Therefore, this study was aimed to estimate the coefficient of total tract standardized digestibility (CTTSD) of P in cereals and various co-products used in pig diet. Twelve barrows (initial BW ± SD, 46.70 ± 3.21 kg) were used in this experiment. The experimental design was a 12 × 8 incomplete Latin square with 12 diets and 8 periods. Experimental diets were consisted of barley, wheat, lupine kernel (LK), soybean meal (SBM), almond meal (AM), corn gluten meal (CGM), corn gluten feed from China (CGF-C), corn gluten feed from Korea (CGF-C), wheat bran (WB), rice bran (RB), lupine hull (LH) and P-free diet. The CTTAD of Ca was higher in AM than RB and CGF-K. The LK and CGM showed greater CTTSD of P than RB and LH. In conclusion, our results indicated that the cereals and co-products as P sources were the ideally used as an ingredient in mixed diets of the growing-finishing pigs.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Thin film composite (TFC) membranes have attracted intense interest due to applications in various molecular separation processes including water purification, gas separation, organic solvent separation and saline-gradient energy production. In particular, growing global demands for clean water and reduced energy consumption have raised interest in highly permselective and low fouling TFC membranes for water treatment and desalination. This drive has led to the design of new molecular structures of TFC membranes using advanced materials. Here, we designed a new building block material, a star-shaped polymer, which can be assembled into the selective layer of the TFC membrane <I>via</I> a commercial interfacial polymerization (IP) technique. This ideal 3-dimensional compact globular geometry along with high density end-functional groups enabled the realization of membranes with higher permselectivity as well as superior antifouling properties even compared to commercial membranes. We demonstrate the remarkable versatility of this building block by using the same starting materials to fabricate membranes that can function either as nanofiltration or reverse osmosis membrane depending on the IP process conditions, which is not feasible with the conventional materials used in membrane fabrication.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> TFC membranes were fabricated by interfacial polymerization of star polymers (SP). </LI> <LI> RO and NF performances can be obtained by adjusting the polymerization conditions. </LI> <LI> SP assembly produces a highly permselective layer with a unique stratified structure. </LI> <LI> SP-assembled membranes show separation performance exceeding commercial membranes. </LI> <LI> SP-assembled membranes have superior fouling resistance to commercial membranes. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
건설 공정관리 솔루션의 활용성 증대를 위한 공정표 작성 지원 프로그램 개발

공정관리는 건설 프로젝트의 효율적인 수행을 위한 핵심 역량 중의 하나이다. 공정관리를 수행하기 위한 지원 도구로서 많은 상용 공정관리 솔루션이 개발되었지만, 건설 현장에서는 사용법을 잘 알지 못하고 있는 등 여러 가지 이유로 인해 활용도가 높지 않은 것이 현실이다. 본 연구에서는 설문조사를 통해 공정관리 및 관련 솔루션 사용에 관한 현황 및 문제점을 파악하고, 이를 기반으로 상용 공정관리 솔루션 활용도를 높이기 위한 공정표 작성 지원 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 프로그램을 통하여 현장에서의 상용 공정관리 솔루션의 활용성을 높이고, 결과적으로 효율적인 공정관리를 기대할 수 있을 것이다. Scheduling management is one of the most important factors for the efficient performance of construction projects. Various computer-aided solutions for schedule management have been developed, but they are not commonly used in practice. This study conducted surveys on scheduling management methods and the related solutions to identity their status and problems in practice. Based on the results of the surveys, this study also developed a scheduling assistant program to improve the usability of scheduling management solutions. Through the developed program, the usability of scheduling management solutions will be improved in practice, thus enabling efficient scheduling management.
