Comparative proteomic analysis of plant responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis
권영상,Mi-Jeong Jeong,Jaeyul Cha1,Sung Woo Jeong,박수철,신성철,정우식,배한홍,Dong-Won Bae 한국식물생명공학회 2012 식물생명공학회지 Vol.39 No.4
Environmental factors greatly influence the growth, development, and even genetic characteristics of plants. The mechanisms by which sound influences plant growth, however, remain obscure. Previously, our group reported that several genes were differentially regulated by specific frequenciesof sound treatmentusing a sound-treated subtractive library. In this study, we used a proteomic approach to investigate plant responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis. The plants were exposed to 250-Hz or 500-Hz sound waves, and total proteins were extracted from leaves 8 h and 24 h after treatment. Proteins extracted from leaves were subjected to 2-DE analysis. Thirty-eight spots were found to be differentially regulated in response to sound waves and were identified using MALDI-TOF MS and MALDI-TOF/TOF MS. The functions of the identified proteins were classified into photosynthesis, stress and defense, nitrogen metabolism, and carbohydrate metabolism. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the analysis of protein changes in response to sound waves in Arabidopsis leaves. These findings provide a better understanding of the molecular basis of responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis.
Spheroid formation from equine mesenchymal stem cells

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are primary candidates for cell therapy and tissue engineering applications. A two-dimensional (2D) culture system is typically used for cell growth, but that method affects the characteristics of stem cells. The physiological cell environment connects cells not only to each other, but also to the extracellular matrix providing mechanical support, exposing the entire cell surface, and opening signaling pathways. The hanging drop method is the most widely used 3D culture method for spheroid formation. In this study, we investigated the relationship between spheroid size and changes in gene expression to determine the optimum spheroid size for use in tissue engineering. The expression levels of stemness factors such as NANOG, OCT4, and SOX2, angiogenic factors such as VEGF and IL-8, and osteogenic factors such as COX2 and TGF-β1 increased with spheroid size in the respective spheroid formation groups unlike the responses in their monolayer groups. Therefore, our results indicate that spheroid formation through the hanging drop method can increase the efficiency of MSCs-based tissue engineering over that obtained via traditional 2D cell culture systems.

We evaluated the performance of the NOW Streptococcus pneumoniae urinary antigen test, standard culture and polymerase chain reaction for detecting S. pneumoniae. The urinary antigen test of pneumonia patients represented sensitivity at 72% and specificity at 79%. The results of PCR were targeting for autolysin (lytA), pneumolysin (ply), and spn9828. The lytA sensitivity and specificity stood at 56% and 87% respectively while ply sensitivity reported 83% and specificity was 47%, sensitivity and specificity of spn9828 stood at 83% and 73% respectively. The results of urinary antigen test and three genes were all statistically meaningful within P<0.05. When the urinary antigen test of S. pneumoniae was positive, the three kinds of genes were also likely to be positive. According to the result of urinary antigen test, the results of PCR presented a meaningful difference (P<0.05). Especially, the urinary antigen test of S. pneumoniae was likely to be positive (P<0.05) when more than two genes were positive in PCR results.

The present work is aimed to evaluate the protective effect of glutathione-enriched Saccharomyces cerevisiae FF-8 strain on carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄)-induced hepatotoxicity and oxidative stress in rats. The activities of liver markers (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase), lipid peroxidative index (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances), and the antioxidant status (reduced glutathione) were used to monitor those protective roles of FF-8 strain. The liver marker enzymes in plasma and the lipid peroxidation in the liver were increased when CCl₄ was treated but these were significantly decreased by FF-8 strain treatment. The hepatic concentration of glutathione in the current glutathione-enriched FF-8 strain fed animal was approximately twice as high as the normal, but this was slightly increased in response to CCl₄ plus glutathione-enriched FF-8 strain. The increased liver triglyceride concentration due to the CCl₄ treatment was significantly decreased by FF-8 strain and the reduced level reached to that of normal group. Administration of FF-8 strain in normal rat did not show any signs of harmful effects. Therefore, the current findings suggest that FF-8 strain could be an effective antioxidant with no or negligible side-effects and it might be useful for the purpose of protection treatment of hepatotoxicity and oxidative stress in CCl₄ in rat.
The Empirical Study of Relationship between Product Market Competition Structure and Overvaluation
CHA, Sang-Kwon,PARK, Mi-Hee 한국유통과학회 2020 유통과학연구 Vol.18 No.2
Purpose: This paper investigated the relationship between market competition and firm valuation error. Furthermore, Additional analyses were made according to the quality of financial reports and the listed market. Through the process we confirm to the impact of competition on the capital market. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of competition on valuation errors. The preceding studies did not provide a consistent results of the effects of competing functions on the capital market. One view is that the competition could mitigate the information asymmetry, and the other is that monopolistic lessens the manager's involvement in financial reporting. This study is intended to expand the prior study by analyzing the impact of competition on the capital market and on the valuation of investors. Research design, data, and methodology: The analysis was conducted on 12,031 samples over 11 years from 2008 to 2018 using data from market in Korea. Here the valuation error was measured by the research methodology of Rhodes-Kropf, Robinson and Viswanathan (2005), and competition measured by Herfindahl-Hirschman Index multiplied by (-1), and Concentration Ratio by (-1). Results: We confirm that the positive relationship between competition and the valuation error. In addition, we also found that the positive relation between competition and valuation error was in cases of low discretionary accruals and the KOSDAQ market. This means that the net function of competition does not mitigate valuation errors. Conclusions. This study has the following contributions when compared to prior research. First, the relevance between the level of competition and the valuation of the entity was confirmed. The study by Haw, Hu and Lee (2015) suggested that monopolistic industry of analysts' forecast is more accurate due to lower the variability in earnings. This study magnified it to confirm that monopolistic lessen information uncertainty in valuation. Second, the study on valuation errors was expanded. While the study on the effect of valuation errors on the capital market is generally relatively active, it is different that competition degree has analyzed the effect on valuation errors amid the lack of research on the effect on valuation errors.
Regular Exercise-training Affects Serum Lipid and Carnitine Profiles in Some College Students
Cha, Youn-Soo,Jung, Bok-Mi,Kim, Hyeung-Rak,Ahn, Chang-Bum,Lim, Sang-Sun The Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition 1998 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.3 No.1
This study investigated the effect of regular exercise on serum lipid profiles and carnitine levels in college students. Daily nutrient intake, anthropometry , serum lipid, and carnitine profiles in serum and urine were evaluated prior to beginning the study and after 35 days of treadmill running for 30 minutes per day. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1) Concentrations of total lipid and Triglyceride in serum were decreased by regular exercise in female subjects but unaffected in males. 2) Serum LDL-cholesterol was significantly decreased, but total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol in serum were not affected in both male and female subjects. 3) nonesterified carnitinem, acid-insoluble acylcarnitine, and total carnitine levels in serum were not affected, but acid-soluble acylcarnitine level was increased by regular exercise in both subjects. 4) Urinary excretionof the acid-soluble acylcarnitine level was increased by regular exercise -training. These results suggest that regular exercise -training has different effects on serum lipid oxidation via carnitine metabolism in this condition.
