        Tailoring the defects and carrier density for beyond 10% efficient CZTSe thin film solar cells

        The defects states and carrier density of CZTSe absorber layers are two of the crucial factors that decide the photovoltaic performance of CZTSe thin film solar cells. Fine tailoring the defects and carrier density is a key to push the power conversion efficiency of CZTSe solar cells to a more competitive level. In this work, the phase properties, defect states, and carrier density of CZTSe thin film are well controlled by fine tuning the ratio of Zn/Sn in the range from 0.75 to 1.27. Capacity-Voltage measurements and Admittance Spectroscopy are used to characterize the carrier density, depletion region width, and defect states of the CZTSe solar cells. The results indicate that the defects states and carrier density of CZTSe layer are very sensitive to the ratio of Zn/Sn. Combining experimental results and numerical simulation, the statistic regularities of the photovoltaic parameters of the CZTSe solar cells with different ratios of Zn/Sn is well explained. The increase of V<SUB>OC</SUB> of CZTSe solar cells with the ratio of Zn/Sn is related to both the increased carrier density and the decreased deep level defects states. The decline of J<SUB>SC</SUB> of the Zn-rich solar cells is caused by both the shrunken depletion region width and a large barrier caused by ZnSe phase. This barrier is the cause for a low fill factor in the Zn-rich solar cells. Overall, the CZTSe solar cells with a stoichiometric ratio of Zn/Sn=1.02 have favorable defects property and carrier density, thus resulting in the highest photovoltaic efficiency of 10.21%.

        Hyaline Cartilage Regeneration Using Mixed Human Chondrocytes and Transforming Growth Factor-β<sub>1</sub>- Producing Chondrocytes

        <P>The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of cartilage regeneration when using a mixture of transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1)-producing human chondrocytes (hChon-TGF-beta1) and primary human chondrocytes (hChon) ('mixed cells'), compared with either hChon-TGF-beta1 or hChon cells alone. Specifically, mixed cells or hChon cells were first injected intradermally into the backs of immune-deficient nude mice to test the feasibility of cartilage formation in vivo. Both the mixed cells and the hChon-TGF-beta1 cells alone induced cartilage formation in nude mice, whereas hChon cells alone did not. To further test the efficacy of the cells in generating cartilage, an artificially induced partial thickness defect of the femoral condyle of a rabbit knee joint was loaded with hChon-TGF-beta1 cells with or without mixing additional untransduced hChon cells, and hyaline cartilage regeneration was observed at 4 or 6 weeks. The efficiency of complete filling of the defect and the quality of tissue generated after implanting were evaluated on the basis of a histological grading system modified from O'Driscoll et al. (J. Bone Joint Surg. 70A, 595, 1988). Significantly, mixed cells (14.2 +/- 0.9) produced significantly better results than hChon-TGF-beta1 (9.0 +/- 1.7) or hChon (8.0 +/- 1.8) cells alone. Histological and immunohistochemical staining of the newly repaired tissues produced after treatment with either mixed cells or hChon-TGF-beta1 cells alone showed hyaline cartilage- like characteristics. These results suggest that the implantation of mixed cells may be a clinically efficient method of regenerating hyaline articular cartilage.</P>

        The Impact of Clostridium Histolyticum Collagenase on the Prevalence and Management of Peyronie’s Disease in the United States

        Purpose: We evaluated the impact of collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH) on rates of diagnosis, treatment, and corpo-ral rupture in Peyronie’s disease (PD). We examined the impact of CCH on cost of PD treatment. Materials and Methods: We extracted data on PD diagnosis (ICD-9 607.95 and ICD-10 N48.6), corporal rupture (ICD-9 959.13 and ICD-10 S39.840A), CCH use (J0775), penile injections (CPT 54200), and corporal rupture repair from 2008 to 2016 in men over 40 years old using the Clinformatics® Data Mart Database (3.7 to 4.9 million males). We analyzed for prevalence of PD, rates of PD treatments, cost associated with treatment, and rates of corporal rupture and repair by year. Results: The prevalence of PD was 0.29% in 2013 and did not increase after CCH entered the market in 2014. An average of 2.52% of men with PD received treatment before CCH, compared with 3.75% after (p<0.0001). Penile injection rates increased (1.34% vs. 2.61%, p<0.0001), while rates of surgical treatments decreased between these periods. There was no change in rate of corporal rupture in men with PD before (0.024%) and after (0.024%) CCH. Overall, only 20.0% of corporal ruptures were repaired. After CCH entered practice, a significant increase in cost occurred (p=0.013). Conclusions: The prevalence of men with PD did not change after CCH. However, more men with PD received treatment due to an increase in penile injections. The cost of treating PD increased after CCH became available. The overall prevalence of corporal rupture did not change after CCH entered the market.

        In oder to predict the elastic-plastic fracture toughness for metallic materials, Finite Element Method(FEM) was used for analysis of compact tension specimen. ASTM E399 test procedure was adopted for simulation of FEM. The Load-Crack Mouth Opening Displacement curve obtained from this analysis was used to detect the crack initiation point and determine the elastic-plastic fracture toughness J_IC. In order to prove the results, they were compared with the results from previous experiments and they agree with experimental results.

        15-Deoxy-Δ<sup>12,14</sup>-prostaglandin J<sub>2</sub> stabilizes, but functionally inactivates p53 by binding to the cysteine 277 residue

        15-Deoxy-Δ<SUP>12,14</SUP>-prostaglandin J<SUB>2</SUB> (15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB>), a representative cyclopentenone prostaglandin, has many interesting biological effects. In this study, treatment of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) with 15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB> led to accumulation of p53 protein. However, the p53 DNA binding and its transcriptional activity were significantly reduced. 15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB> directly modified p53 as verified by reacting recombinant p53 with biotinylated 15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB>. 9,10-Dihydro-15-deoxy-Δ<SUP>12,14</SUP>-prostaglandin J<SUB>2</SUB> lacking the electrophilic α,β-unsaturated functionality failed to inhibit p53 DNA binding as well as to modify p53. Moreover, by conducting an in vitro [<SUP>35</SUP>S]-labeled p53 translation assay, we identified cysteine 277 as a putative site of p53 modification by 15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB>. The DNA-binding ability of a mutant p53 in which cysteine 277 was substituted by alanine was virtually unaffected by 15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB>. Likewise, p53 binding activity of biotinylated 15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB> was abolished in mutant cells. In addition, cells expressing wild-type p53 exhibited p53 protein stability to a greater extent than mutant C277A cells. In conclusion, 15d-PGJ<SUB>2</SUB> can undergo nucleophilic addition to p53, presumably at the cysteine 277 residue, rendering this tumor suppressor less susceptible to proteasomal degradation.

        원발성 간암에서 PIVKA-II 및 Lens Culinaris Agglutinin-A 반응성 Alpha-fetoprotein(AFP-L3)의 임상적 유용성

        Background/Aims: Des-γ-carboxy prothrombin(DCP), a protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II(PIVKA-II), and Lens culinaris agglutinin-A reactive AFP-L3 have been reported to be useful markers for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the present study, both the PIVKA-II and AFP-L3 were analyzed and compared with a conventional AFP to determine its usefulness, specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of HCC. Methods: Sera were collected from 108 patients consisting of 17 patients with chronic hepatitis, 22 patients with liver cirrhosis and 69 patients with HCC. The AFP-L3 was determined by an lectin affinity electrophoresis coupled with an antibody-affinity blotting. Level of DCP was measured by an enzyme immunoassay with an anti-DCP monoclonal antibody. Results: The sensitivity and specificity of PIVKA-II and AFP L3 were 49.3% and 89.5%, and 32.5% and 85.7%, respectively. No significant correlation was found between the PIVKA-II or AFP L3 and serum AFP. No correlation was found etween the PIVKA-II or AFP L3 and the characteristics of HCC.         Improving mechanical and magnetocaloric responses of amorphous melt-extracted Gd-based microwires via nanocrystallization

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report on the structural, mechanical, and magnetocaloric properties of annealed melt-extracted Gd<SUB>53</SUB>Al<SUB>24</SUB>Co<SUB>20</SUB>Zr<SUB>3</SUB> amorphous microwires of ∼70 μm diameter. During heat treatment small islands of nanocrystallities are generated and isolated in the amorphous region for the wires. The size of the nanocrystallities ranges from 5 nm to 10 nm. The observed lattice distortion from the nanocrystallities causes changes in the magnetic properties of the wires. The annealing temperature of 100 °C has the largest strength (1845 MPa) as compared to wires annealed at other temperatures. This is likely to trigger nanophase transformation in the amorphous region and these nanocrystals have been preserved through the increase of annealing temperature. The formulation of the nanocrystalline islands is also verified by the selected-area electron diffraction (SAED). The microwires exhibit a large and reversible magnetocaloric effect (MCE), with the maximum isothermal magnetic entropy change (−Δ<I>S</I> <SUB>M</SUB>) and refrigerant capacity (<I>RC</I>) values of 9.5 J/kg K and 689 J/kg respectively for the microwire annealed at 100 °C. This <I>RC</I> is about 35%, 67%, and 91% larger than those of bulk Gd<SUB>53</SUB>Al<SUB>24</SUB>Co<SUB>20</SUB>Zr<SUB>3</SUB> (∼509 J/kg), Gd (∼410 J/kg), and Gd<SUB>5</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>Ge<SUB>1.9</SUB>Fe<SUB>0.1</SUB> (∼360 J/kg) regardless of their ordering temperatures.         Finite-time Consensus of Leader-following Multi-agent Systems with Multiple Time Delays over Time-varying Topology

        This paper studies the finite-time consensus of leader-following multi-agent systems with multiple time delays over time-varying topology. The finite-time consensus protocol based on the agents’ states and the communication topology is designed. By adopting the algebraic graph theory, Lyapunov stability theory and pinning control method, some sufficient conditions for the finite-time consensus are given. It is proved that the system can reach consensus in a finite time both over the connected and disconnected topology. Moreover, the upper bound of the convergence time is given. Several simulations are presented to verify the effectiveness of the adopted method.
