      • Cylindrical Water Triboelectric Nanogenerator via Controlling Geometrical Shape of Anodized Aluminum for Enhanced Electrostatic Induction

        <P>We demonstrate a cylindrical water triboelectric nanogenerator (CW-TENG) that generates sustainable electrical output. The inner surface of the cylinder was patterned into superhydrophobic and hydrophilic parts to control water flow inside the packaged design of CW-TENG. Here, various thicknesses and roughnesses of the superhydrophobic surface, generated using aluminum oxide nanostructures for enhanced electrostatic induction, were measured to obtain the maximum output and superhydrophobicity. Also, we demonstrate the possibility of using a hydrophilic surface for energy harvesting and as a water reservoir in the packaged design.</P>

      • 송시열과 윤선거 분쟁의 기록 : 동원컬렉션《황산기첩(黃山記帖)》 제작 배경 및 의의

        송시열의 황산지회를 기념하는 《황산기유첩》의 모사본 《황산기첩》의 내용을 검토하여 17세기 서원을 중심으로 세력을 결집한 사림들의 문화를 규명하고, 이모 시기를 추정해 보았다. 《황산기유첩》은 안타깝게도 현재 전하지 않고 있으나 후대에 이모된 화첩인 동원 이홍근 컬렉션 《황산기첩》(동원2200)이 전해져서 원본의 전모를 확인할 수 있다. 이 서화첩은 경신환국으로 남인이 실각하고 서인이 집권하는 1680년에 제작되었다. 유배에서 풀려난 송시열을 모시던 권상하가 모임을 기념하려던 조부 권성원의 뜻을 이어 서화첩으로 꾸미고 송시열이 발문을 추가하였다. 이는 회화를 정치적 목적으로 활용하는 데에 익숙했던 송시열 일파가 이 서화첩을 통해 서인 간의 결집을 의도한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 서화첩의 제작 목적을 조선시대 회화에 부여되었던 정치적 역할과 결부시켜 이해하였다. 평가 절하되었던 이모된 서화첩을 제작 배경의 측면에서 접근하여 화첩의 가치를 다각적으로 부각시켜보고자 하였다. When a literati gathering is held with a private or public reason, it is usually accompanied by a series of acts to memorize it. To memorize their gathering, literary men of Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897) used to produce a hanging scroll or album with their paintings and poems related to the gathering. As the meetings were held to promote their friendship, solidity and amusement, the memorial products were usually based on the beautiful memories. But in the "Album of Gathering of Scholars at the Hwangsanseowon," an painting and calligraphy album to memorize the gathering at the Hwangsanseowon Confucian Academy, an extraordinary memory of conflict is included that can hardly be seen in other albums of Joseon Dynasty. Presently, this album is not extant but its later imitation has been included as Hwangsangicheop(Dong 2200) in the collection of Lee Hong-kun. In this paper, the characters of vanished original album are examined through the imitated Hwangsangicheop the secondary record of the historical event. With this, we can find that there was the gathering culture of literary scholars and the production of painting and calligraphy album for the private gatherings was increasing as well as that of Gyehoe for the formal gatherings of 17th century.

        In Vitro Effect of DFC-2 on Mycolic Acid Biosynthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

        DFC-2, a methyl 5-[2-(dimethylamino)ethoxy]-7,12-dioxo-7,12-dihydrodinaphtho[1,2-b:2’,3’- d]furan-6-carboxylate, is reported to have antitubercular effects against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. At concentrations ranging from 0.19 to 0.39 μg/ml, DFC-2 inhibited both drugsusceptible and -resistant strains of M. tuberculosis. Microarray analyses were employed to gain insights into the molecular mechanisms of DFC-2’s action in M. tuberculosis. The most affected functional gene category was “lipid biosynthesis,” which is involved in mycolic acid synthesis. The decrease in transcription of genes related to mycolic acid synthesis was confirmed by RT-PCR. Furthermore, we found that DFC-2 triggered a reduction in mycolic acid levels, showing a similar pattern to that of mycolic acid synthesis inhibitor isoniazid. These results may explain how this compound kills mycobacteria efficiently by inhibiting mycolic acid synthesis.

        Molecular and Cellular Microbiology / Biomedical Sciences : Phytoncide Extracted from Pinecone Decreases LPS-Induced Inflammatory Responses in Bovine Mammary Epithelial Cells

        Mastitis is a prevalent inflammatory disease that remains one of the main causes of poor quality of milk. Phytoncides are naturally occurring anti-inflammatory compounds derived from plants and trees. To determine if treatment with phytoncide could decrease the severity of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses, mammary alveolar epithelial cells (MAC-T) were pretreated with phytoncide (0.02% and 0.04% (v/v)) followed by LPS treatment (1 and 25 μg/ml). The results demonstrated that phytoncide downregulated LPSinduced pro-inflammatory cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression. Additionally, LPS-induced activation of ERK1/2, p38, and Akt was attenuated by phytoncide. Treatment of cells with known pharmacological inhibitors of ERK1/2 (PD98059), p38 (SB203580), and Akt (LY294002) confirmed the association of these signaling pathways with the observed alterations in COX-2 expression. Moreover, phytoncide attenuated LPS-induced NF-κB activation and superoxide production, and, finally, treatment with phytoncide increased Nrf2 activation. Results suggest that phytoncide can decrease LPS-induced inflammation in MAC-T cells.

        The Other and Literary (Un)Representation in Lacan, Levinas and Beckett

        라깡의 정신분석의 윤리학과 레비나스의 책임의 윤리철학은 상용되는 의미의 "객체"화를 시킬 수 없는 "실재," 혹은 절대 타자성의 사고에 기초한다. 라깡은 "쥬이쌍스"(jouissance)와 "써블라임"(sublime)의 윤리학을 통해 재현 불가능한 실재계의 타자에 대한 욕망의 실현 가능성을 제시하고, 레비나스는 초월의 이념을 통해 동일자로 환원할 수 없는 타자의 절대성을 논증하며 절대적 타자에 대한 책임 윤리학을 제안한다. 불가능으로서의 라깡의 타자와 레비나스의 절대적 타자에 관한 철학적 사유는 문학적 재현에 대한 포스트모던적 사고와, 문학과 예술의 윤리적 해석의 가능성을 열어준다는 점에서 문학적 논의와 밀접한 관련을 가진다. 특별히 라깡의 『안티고네』 읽기는 불가능한 욕망의 대상, 즉 실재계의 타자를 "사물"(the Thing)의 위엄으로 끌어올림으로써 욕망의 실현을 성취하는 라깡의 써블라임의 윤리학을, 그리고 베케트의 『에이 조』에 나타난 해체적 글쓰기는 "말해진 것"(the said)에 의해서 언제나 잊혀지는 "말하는 것"(the saying)을 드러내기 위해 레비나스가 제시한 끊임없는 "가로막음"(interruption)과 "심화환원"(reduction)의 과정을 통해 타자 윤리학을 향한 문학적 글쓰기의 가능성을 제시하고 있다.

        Prenatal diagnosis of an unbalanced translocation between chromosome Y and chromosome 15 in a female fetus

        We report the prenatal diagnosis of an unbalanced translocation between chromosome Y and chromosome 15 in a female fetus. Cytogenetic analysis of parental chromosomes revealed that the mother had a normal 46,XX karyotype, whereas the father exhibited a 46,XY,der(15)t(Y;15) karyotype. We performed cytogenetic analysis of the father's family as a result of the father and confirmed the same karyotype in his mother and brother. Fluorescence in situ hybridization and quantitative fluorescent-polymerase chain reaction analysis identified the breakpoint and demonstrated the absence of the SRY gene in female members. Thus, the proband inherited this translocation from the father and grandmother. This makes the prediction of the fetal phenotype possible through assessing the grandmother. Therefore, we suggest that conventional cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods, in combination with family history, provide informative results for prenatal diagnosis and prenatal genetic counseling.

        <P><B>Goldnanopartikel</B> (AuNPs) wurden mit einem rot fluoreszierenden Protein (RFP, rosafarbene Formen im Bild) als Modellantigen und einem Oligonukleotid (CpG), das die Immunantwort stimuliert, funktionalisiert. Diese AuNPs ermöglichten bei Verwendung als Krebsimpfstoffe in einem Tumormodell den effizienten Transport eines Antigens zum Zielort, die Verfolgung des Impfstoffs mithilfe nichtinvasiver klinischer Bildgebung sowie Vorbeugung und Behandlung von Krebs.</P>

      • 19세기 중인 조희룡의 일상 탐구 - 《전 조희룡 서간첩》(동원3339)을 중심으로

        Most of the surviving letters from the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897) were written by people from the sadaebu (scholar-official) class. Letters written by literati from the commoner class date back to the eighteenth century at the earliest, and a large number of nineteenth-century letters written by the jungin (middle people) class remains. In the nineteenth century, literary figures from the jungin class accrued considerable wealth, made noted literary accomplishments, and rose as new leaders in the culture of the time. Jo Huiryong (趙熙龍, 1789–1866) was born into the jungin class and became a leading literary figure in the nineteenth century. He was well versed in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. He produced numerous writings, including letters, using his distinctive calligraphic style. He also demonstrated the ability to write simply yet still convey key points. Since a majority of the surviving letters by Jo are copies made by other people, his Album of Letters in the Lee Hong-kun collection of the National Museum of Korea containing thirty-six original letters on twenty-one leaves is particularly significant. The letters in this album bear no names of their authors and have no envelopes on which the correspondents or their addresses are recorded. However, the inclusion of the Chinese characters “弟龍” (humble dragon) in the closing greetings of these letters and the calligraphy following the Chusa style of Kim Jeonghui (金正喜, 1786–1856) suggest that they were written by Jo Huiryong. Kim Seokjun (金奭準, 1831–1915), a disciple of Kim Jeonghui, once noted that Jo’s brushstrokes solely followed the Chusa style, but his wielding of the brush was rather unconventional. As indicated by this comment, Jo adopted the Chusa style, but his calligraphy is visibly softer than Kim’s and lacks structural vitality. This paper examines the characteristics of the calligraphic style found in this album of letters and identifies their author as Jo Huiryong by comparing them with Jo’s other works. The first letter in this album is the sole example with an addressee named Uhyeon (又玄). Uhyeon is a sobriquet of An Jinseok (安晉錫, 1793–1859). An and Jo maintained a close friendship for over fifty years, as recorded in Uhyeonjae sicho (Selected Poems by Uhyeon) compiled by An’s son after An died. Jo Huiryong composed a preface for the book in which he said that he was the only person who could understand An Jinseok. In a brief biography of An written by his son, he related that his father was on intimate terms with Jo Huiryong and O Changnyeol (吳昌烈, active 19th century). Born into the jungin class, O Changnyeol excelled in poetry and had remarkable medical skills. Outside this first letter, the other thirty-five letters in this album have no addressees. Nonetheless, the close relationship between the writer and the recipient is apparent throughout the letters. In many of these letters, the writer casually says hello to the recipient and his family and delivers business matters simply and briefly like today’s text messages. These letters vividly relate the everyday life of a writer who frankly conveys his emotions and talks about his daily life, something rarely found in other letters from the Joseon period. In these letters, Jo Huiryong inquired after An Jinseok’s and his parents’ health, briefly related the recent conditions of himself, his family, and his acquaintances, and added his requests. He also discussed the goods An requested and talked about the business matters that An had asked about. Moreover, Jo asked An for paper, books, inkstones, and glasses. He often demanded books or responded to An’s requests. Each letter in this album is valuable in that it explicitly reveals clues about his everyday life. Having a passion for collecting inkstones, Jo expressed his desires for them in these letters. Moreover, his voracity for new and unusual objects like glasses is explicitly revealed. The letters also contain descriptions of him enjoying banquets by calling in female entertainers and court musicians, reflecting the affluent daily life of a gyeongajeon (minor official) from the jungin class. This album of letters carries cultural and historical significance as a reflection of Jo Huiryong’s life in his prime before being exiled in 1851. It will serve as important material for studying the everyday lives of the jungin class as does Wandang sodok (A Collection of Letters by Kim Jeonghui), another work donated by Lee Hong-kun that describes the role of Yu Myeonghun from the jungin class as Kim Jeonghui’s mounter.
