The mirid bug, Cyrtorhinus lividipennis Reuter, an important predatory natural enemy of rice planthoppers, is widely distributed in rice fields. However, genetic information on C. lividipennis is lacking. Especially, limited data about mechanisms of insecticide selectivity between this piercing-sucking predator (C. lividipennis) and piercing-sucking preys (rice planthoppers), inhibits development of selective insecticides and the integration of chemical and biological control systems to control insect pests of rice. Hence, we performed de novo assembly of a transcriptome from adult and nymph whole bodies of C. lividipennis. A total of> 29 million of reads were generated, and 34,752 transcripts matched known proteins. Then, the genes related to insecticide action and detoxification were manually identified, including 26 carboxylesterases (containing 2 acetylcholinesterases), 57 cytochrome P450s, 19 glutathione S-transferases, 15 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, 3 GABA-gated ion channels, and 1 glutamate receptor. Comparisons of sequence differences in these genes between C. lividipennis and rice planthoppers, revealed that quite a lot of diversity was found among genes related to insecticide action and detoxification, while a few of these genes share much higher identities between this predator and prey. The present study provides useful information for our understanding of insecticide selectivity between rice planthoppers and the predator mirid bug.

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is currently the most commonly used microbial pesticide. In the previous study, Bt IMBL-B9 known for its high toxicity against Spodoptera exigua, S. frugiperda and Plutella xylostella was characterized. To develop novel biopesticide, optimization of culture medium is required for the cost-effective mass production for toxin production of IMBL-B9. Through experimental design by Plackett-Burman design, ingredients that significantly influenced the production of IMBL-B9's toxin were selected. Using these results, the novel culture medium for IMBL-B9 was developed and the toxin yield of IMBL-B9 was significantly increased than conventional media by using this medium. These results could be useful for the development of biopesticides.

Mixture copulas with discrete margins and their application to imbalanced data
Liu Yujian,Xie Dejun,Edwards David A.,Yu Siyi 한국통계학회 2023 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.52 No.4
This article introduces the approach of using Bayesian sampling to estimate the mixture copula with discrete margins, we further apply our models to solve the class imbalanced problems in data science by oversampling. The methodology makes it possible to learn and sample from the data set with the discrete and continuous features exists simultaneously. On the other hand, the discreetness of factors in a data set are not naturally considered for the classic SMOTE algorithm and classic random oversampling is simply performed by generating the already existing points, which do not give any new information to the classifiers and is easy to overfit. Copula methods enable us to generate new points with the correlation structure memorized by learning from the training set. Hence, the overfitting problems are reduced. Experiments with synthetic and real data are done in the article following the introduction of the methodology. The outcomes shows the validity of the approach when compared with the benchmark methods.

Purpose: To investigated the association between serum total testosterone and Gleason score upgrading of low-risk prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy (RP). Materials and Methods: Medline, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify eligible studies published before October 2021. Multivariate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and associated 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using random or fixed effects models. Results: Five studies comprising 1,203 low-risk prostate cancer patients were included. The results showed that low serum total testosterone (<300 ng/dL) is associated with a high rate of Gleason score upgrading after RP (OR, 2.3; 95% CI, 1.38–3.83; p<0.001; I2, 92.2%). Notably, sensitivity and meta-regression analyses further strengthen the reliability of our results. Conclusions: Our results support the idea that low serum total testosterone is associated with a high rate of Gleason score upgrading in prostate cancer patients after RP. It is beneficial for urologist to ensure close monitoring of prostate-specific antigen levels and imaging examination when choosing non-RP treatment for low-risk prostate cancer patients.

최태은,Qing-Mei Liu,Jung-Eun Yang,Siyi Sun,김세영,이태후,임완택 한국미생물학회 2010 The journal of microbiology Vol.48 No.6
The Gram-reaction-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, non-spore-forming, and rod-shaped bacterial strain designated Gsoil 1429T was isolated from the soil of ginseng cultivating field of Pocheon province in South Korea. This bacterium was characterized in order to determine its taxonomic position by using the polyphasic approach. Strain Gsoil 1429T grew well at 25-37°C and at pH 7.0 on R2A and nutrient agar without NaCl supplement. Strain Gsoil 1429T had β-glucosidase activity, which was responsible for its ability to transform ginsenoside Rb1 (one of the dominant active components of ginseng) to F2 via gypenoside XVII. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, strain Gsoil 1429T was shown to belong to the family Sphingomonadaceae and to be related to Sphingomonas yunnanensis YIM 003T (98.2% sequence similarity), S. phyllosphaerae FA2T (97.5%), S. koreensis JSS26T (97.3%), and S. asaccharolytica IFO 15499T (97.1%). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 65.6%. The major respiratory quinone was Q-10 and the major fatty acids were summed feature 8 (comprising C18:1 ω7c/ω9t/ω12t), C16:0 and C14:0 2OH. DNA and chemotaxonomic data supported the affiliation of strain Gsoil 1429T to the genus Sphingomonas. The DNA-DNA relatedness values between strain Gsoil 1429T and its closest phylogenetically neighbours were below 28%. Strain Gsoil 1429T could be differentiated genotypically and phenotypically from the recognized species of the genus Sphingomonas. The isolate therefore represents a novel species, for which the name Sphingomonas ginsenosidimutans sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain Gsoil 1429T (=KACC 14949T =JCM 17074T =LMG 25799T).

The beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua, is one of the worldwide distributed agricultural pest insects and has been known to show high resistance to conventional chemical insecticides. Since it has been reported that secondary metabolites from actinomycetes show insecticidal activities against various insect pests, actinomycetes could be a potential source of insecticidal compounds. In this study, culture extracts of Streptomyces strains were tested for their insecticidal activity against Spodoptera exigua. Among them, culture extracts of IMBL-0003 strain which was identified as Streptomyces celluloflavus showed a high insecticidal activity (more than 90% mortality). These results suggested that secondary metabolites of this isolate could have potentials to be a efficient eco-friendly pesticide for controling Spodoptera exigua.
Cloning and expression of novel lipase from entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana
Kim Hyun Ji,Choi Jae Young,Park Dong Hwan,WANG MINGHUI,Liu Siyi,장판식,제연호 한국응용곤충학회 2023 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.26 No.3
Lipase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of triacylglycerol, is one of the enzymes of interest in the bio-industry. In this study, strains of entomopathogenic fungi were screened for their lipase activity and the characteristics of lipase isolated from Beauveria bassiana JEF-351 strain showing high lipase activity were investigated. Lipase gene of B. bassiana JEF-351 strain, BBL351, was introduced into the genome of Autographa californica nucleopoly hedrovirus (AcMNPV) and recombinant lipases were expressed as non-secreted and secreted protein, respec tively. Enzyme activity of BBL351 was higher when the protein was expressed as secreted form, demonstrating that post-translational modification such as glycosylation is crucial for enzyme activity. In addition, the enzyme activity of BBL351 was higher than that of CML, which is an sn-1(3) regioselective lipase reported from Cordyceps militaris. These results suggested that the lipase derived from the B. bassiana JEF-351 strain could be useful as biocatalyst in the biotechnological applications.

This paper proposes a novel robust finite-time tracking control scheme for robotic manipulators with uncertainties and external disturbances. In order to reduce the chattering phenomenon and enhance the robustness of the system, we design a novel extended state observer with filter function for estimating the lumped term of system uncertainties and external disturbances. We adopt the backstepping mechanism to design an adaptive backstepping nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode controller, achieve finite time convergence of the tracking errors while avoiding the singularity problem. An adaptive update law is designed for the switching gain, which further weakens the chattering problem. The finite-time convergence of tracking errors and the stability of the closed-loop system are ensured by the Lyapunov criterion. In comparison with other control methods, numerical simulation on a two-link rigid robot manipulator demonstrates the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.
