Taraxacum officinale, the common dandelion, is a plant of the Asteraceae family, which is used as a food and medical herb. Various secondary plant metabolites such as sesquiterpene lactones, triterpenoids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, coumarins, and steroids have been described to be present in T. officinale. Dandelion may exhibit various health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenic properties. We analyzed the leaves and roots of the common dandelion (T. officinale) using high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry to determine its sesquiterpene lactone composition. The main compound of the leaf extract taraxinic acid β-d-glucopyranosyl ester (1), a sesquiterpene lactone, was isolated and the structure elucidation was conducted by nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. The leaf extract and its main compound 1 activated the transcription factor nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in human hepatocytes more significantly than the root extract. Furthermore, the leaf extract induced the Nrf2 target gene heme oxygenase 1. Overall, present data suggest that compound 1 may be one of the active principles of T. officinale.
BACK TO THE ROOTS - THE INFLUENCE OF CHILDHOOD ENGAGEMENT ON HOSPITALITY SERVICE FAILURE EVALUATION
Marie-Christin Papen,Florian U. Siems,Werner H. Kunz 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07
Marketing research shows that long-term customer-supplier relationships can reduce consequences of service failures in the hospitality industry. In addition to a long-term, continuous relationship, other types of long-term relationships are also conceivable as influencing factors. This raises the question of whether interactions with a company, based on customer engagement during childhood (childhood engagement) can influence the effect of a service failure. Similar to general child experience, it can be assumed that early engagement in the customer relationship can significantly affect later relationship perception. Furthermore, perceived controllability of the failure also plays a role. If the customer attributes responsibility to the company, negative reactions can arise. To examine this questions, an experimental study with 152 participants was performed. A moderating effect of perceived controllability and childhood engagement on repurchase intention as a consequence of disappointment was found. Previous customer engagement and a credible communication can thus prevent the termination of a relationship after a service failure. Contrary, early engagement does not generally prevent a company from customers’ disappointment. The article contributes to marketing research by integrating 1) the customer disappointment, 2) childhood engagement and its consequences for future interactions with the company as well as 3) the transfer of negative emotions from an employee to the company.

<P>A chemical investigation of the endophytic fungus <I>Epicoccum nigrum</I> isolated from leaves of <I>Mentha suaveolens</I> collected in Morocco resulted in the isolation of five new polyketides, epicocconigrones A and B (<B>1</B> and <B>2</B>), 3-methoxyepicoccone B (<B>3</B>), 3-methoxyepicoccone (<B>4</B>), and 2,3,4-trihydroxy-6-(methoxymethyl)-5-methylbenzaldehyde (<B>5</B>), together with five known compounds (<B>6</B>–<B>10</B>). The structures of the new compounds were unambiguously determined by extensive analysis of the 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectroscopic data. Compounds <B>1</B> and <B>10</B> showed potent inhibition of at least 15 protein kinases with IC50 values ranging from 0.07 to 9.00 μM. Moreover, compounds <B>1</B> and <B>10</B> inhibited histone deacetylase (HDAC) activities with IC50 values of 9.8 and 14.2 μM, respectively. A preliminary structure–activity relationship is discussed. Interestingly, compounds <B>1</B> and <B>10</B> exert mainly cytostatic effects in human lymphoma RAJI and U-937 cell lines.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jnprdf/2014/jnprdf.2014.77.issue-1/np4005745/production/images/medium/np-2013-005745_0008.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/np4005745'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

A new tetracyclic triterpenoid [4,4,24-trimethylcholesta-D8,9;14,15;24,28-trien-3b,11b,12a-triol-12-acetate, 3-sulfate] sodium salt (1), together with eight known compounds including ergosterol 5a,8a-endoperoxide (2), 1,9-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-2-methylpterocarpan (3), 3-O-b-D-2-acetyl-amino-2-deoxyglucopyranoxyloleanoic acid (4), hydnocarpin (5), derrone (6), isovitexin (7), erythrinin C (8), and 5,4'-dihydroxy-2''-hydroxyisopropyldihydrofurano [4,5:7,8]-isoflavone (9), were isolated from the EtOAc soluble fraction of the methanol extract of aerial part of Desmodium uncinatum collected in the western highland of Cameroon. The structures of these compounds were established by comprehensive interpretation of their spectral data mainly including 1D- (1H and 13C), 2D-NMR (1H-1H COSY, HMQC, HMBC) spectroscopic and ESI-TOF-MS mass spectrometric analysis. The isolation of an integracide-like compound from plant origin is a very unusual finding.
Humeral intramedullary nail bending following trauma: a case report
Willems Siem A.,Greeven Alexander P. A. 대한외상학회 2023 大韓外傷學會誌 Vol.36 No.1
The surgical approach for humeral implant failure can be challenging due to neurovascular anatomy and the possible necessity of osteosynthesis removal. We present a rare case of humeral nail bending after secondary trauma in a patient with preexistent nonunion of the humerus after intramedullary nailing. During revision surgery, the nail was sawed in half and the distal part was removed, followed by plate osteosynthesis with cable fixation to achieve absolute stability. The patient regained a full range of motion 1 year after surgery, and complete healing of the fracture was seen on imaging.

This study is an follow-up study on Flipped Learning(FL) method implementation for Indonesian courses at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS). The FL method has been in the spotlight in the academic world and widely proved and recommended by academic experts as method which positively changes the learning outcomes of students. The purpose of this study is to learn the achievements in lectures when the FL method is applied. Results given by students who took ‘Indonesian Listening and Speaking’ classes held in the spring semester 2020 and fall semester 2020, were selected as research subjects. Based on the results, the following are suggested to improve the FL method in lectures related to Indonesian language. First, lecturers need to provide qualified content and plan lectures systematically. Second, it is appropriate to expand students’ understanding of the FL method, so that students understand better the goals and objectives of the lecture. Third, the improvement and development of lecture materials including books and audio-visual media must be carried out continuously. Fourth, for maximum results, lecture materials should be linked to other subjects in the study program. Because by doing so, students can use and apply what they have learned in one lecture in another lecture.

Rice is the staple food in the Philippines and the government is determined to maintain its sustainable production to ensure food security. In recent years, the Department of Agriculture has notably increased the budget for the irrigation sector to maintain reliable water supplies for rice production. Bukidnon is the food basket and one of the major rice-producing provinces in the country, and the Pulangui River Irrigation System (PRIS) is the largest in the region. However, the performance of PRIS is jeopardized by outdated infrastructure, unlined canals, conventional farming methods, and climate change. Every year, the maximum arable area is not cultivated because of the inequitable distribution of canal water supplies among the farmers. Therefore, proper delivery and distribution of irrigation water are crucial to improving efficiency and water productivity. In this study, monthly and seasonal water demands for rice cultivation were compared with canal water supplies to identify the demand-supply mismatch. Based on the data analysis, a canal water allowance of 2.17 lps/ha was suggested in place of the designed water allowance of 3.0 lps/ha and expected improvements in crop water productivity were estimated. Study results would facilitate monitoring and regulating canal water supplies according to demands which could increase the irrigated area, yield, and water productivity without placing undue stress on the available water resources.
