The Purpose of the study was to look into the health promoting behavior, health status and quality of life of elderly people minutely. To achieve this, the survey was conducted from 350 elderly people in Seoul who attend the dance sports program in welfare center and are over 60 year old. After removing 43 questionnaires which contained deficient credibility, total 307 questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS-WIN 12.0 for frequency analysis, factor analysis, correlation and multiple regression analysis. So the result is following. First, in the result of effect of health promoting behavior on the health status of elderly people, maintaining ease mind which is one of the sub-factors of health promoting behavior had an effect on the somatic complaint related factor. Second, in the result of effect of health promoting behavior on the quality of life of elderly people, maintaining ease mind, living life eagerly and creating network which are the sub-factors of health promoting behavior had an effect on the social quality of life. Third, the result of causality between health status and quality of life had an effect on the social quality of life in somatic and mental complaint related factor which are the sub-factors of health status. But it had not effect on the economic quality of life.

<P>The Maillard reaction is a chemical reaction occurring between an amino acid and a reducing sugar, usually requiring thermal processing. Maillard reaction products (MRPs) have antioxidant, antimutagenic, and antibacterial effects, and although 2,4-bis (p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal (HPB242), a fructose-tyrosine MRP, appears to inhibit proliferation of cancer cells, its mechanism of action has not been studied in detail. We found that HPB242 treatment modulated expression of cyclins and tumor suppressor genes in SiHa human cervical cancer cell lines: cyclins and phospho-pRB were downregulated, whereas the expression of CDK inhibitors and p53 was enhanced. HPB242 induced apoptosis dose-dependently by suppressing E7 expression and leading to sub-G1 cell-cycle arrest in SiHa cell lines; treatment also led to the proteolytic cleavage of caspase-3, -9, and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase. Moreover, HPB242 upregulated Fas expression, altered expressions of pro- and antiapoptotic factors, and also inhibited nuclear translocation of nuclear factor κB and phosphorylation of IκB. HPB242 treatment decreased phosphatidyl inositol-3 kinase and p-Akt expression levels, demonstrating that this survival pathway may also be inhibited by HPB242. Cumulatively, HPB242 promotes apoptosis by influencing E7 expression, inducing cell-cycle arrest at sub-G1 phase, and promoting both intrinsic (mitochondrial) and extrinsic (Fas-dependent) apoptosis in SiHa human cervical cancer cells.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report the highly sensitive and selective downsized gas sensors for the IoT application. Sensing areas of Pt-interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) were varied to investigate the relation between sensing materials and electrodes. In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanocolumns were deposited on the pre-patterned Pt IDEs using glancing angle deposition (GLAD). The effect of the interface resistance between electrodes and sensing materials, and the intergrain resistance between nanocolumns is analyzed by linear regression at different sensing area and incident angle of GLAD. In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> (angle: 85°, sensing area: 0.3mm×0.3mm) nanocolumns with double Schottky barriers show the highest response and selectivity with fast response time of 10s to VOCs among the samples fabricated in this study. The analysis reveals that the intrinsic response of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> (angle: 85°, sensing area: 0.3mm×0.3mm) nanocolumns are dominantly affected by intergrain resistance, resulting in a high response. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, we demonstrate tuning of electrical properties and sensing responses of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanocolumnar structure via varying glancing angle (GLAD) deposition conditions by e-beam evaporator. The varied deposition conditions include glancing angle, vacuum level and deposition rate. The electrical property of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanostructured thin films, demonstrated by the base resistance, change up to 3 orders of magnitude from 110Ω to 103104Ω depending on the porosity of nanocolumnar structure and oxygen vacancy concentration. This variation in electrical property transfers to the tuning of gas sensing response, and we achieve tuning the same material (In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>) based gas sensors to better perform for specific type of gases (either oxidizing or reducing). The highest responses achieved in this work reached up to 176 for oxidizing gases (5ppm NO<SUB>2</SUB>, R<SUB>gas</SUB>/R<SUB>air</SUB>) and 929 for reducing gases (50ppmC<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>OH, R<SUB>air</SUB>/R<SUB>gas</SUB>). Therefore, we demonstrate that gas sensors can be optimized for specific type of target gases with the same material, via simple control of deposition conditions. Along with the high reproduciblility and sensitivity, this puts the nanocolumnar thin film based gas sensors by GLAD with huge potential for further miniaturization and mass production, suitable for the upcoming IoT era.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Nanocolumnar In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> thin film based gas sensor is fabricated by glancing angle deposition (GLAD). </LI> <LI> Electrical properties of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> can be optimized for specific target gases, tuning simple deposition conditions of GLAD. </LI> <LI> In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> sensors have excellent performances with high repeatability, recovery, and extremely low detection limit. </LI> </UL> </P>
p-n Heterojunction Composed of n-ZnO/p-Zn-doped InP

A p-n junction was obtained by the deposition of an n-type ZnO thin film on a p-type Zn-doped InP substrate. The Zn-doped InP substrate has been made by the diffusion of Zn with sealed ampoule technique. The ZnO deposition process was performed by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The p-n junction was formed and showed typical I-V characteristics. We will also discuss about the realization of an ultraviolet light-emitting diode (LED). The structure of n-ZnO/p-Zn-doped InP could be a good candidate for the realization of an ultraviolet light-emitting diode or an ultraviolet laser diode.
Monocrotophos poisoning in wild mallards (Anas platyrhynchos)

The toxicity of organophosphate arises from disruption of the nervous system due to the inhibition of cholinesterase enzymes, leading to death. Six dead mallards were found at Ansung where is one of the most popular wintering sites for migratory birds in Korea, and requested for diagnosis to Gyeonggi Veterinary Service on January of 2007. Some examinations including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) could not find any evidence of specific disease condition. However, the contents of gastrointestinal tracts of the birds contained residues of monocrotophos ranged from 31.3ppm to 294.3ppm by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. It can be supposed that monocroptophos was responsible for the death of mallards by this results.

This study aims to seek ways to develop Taekkyon as a sport for All and present directions for future-oriented policy-making. The results of survey analysis are as follow: First, regarding the comparison of perception?bottleneck?promotion plan per gender, statistically meaningful discrepancy have been found at p<.001 in perception but bottleneck promotion plan haven't been found. Second, regarding the comparison of perception?bottleneck?promotion plan per age, statistically meaningful discrepancy have been found at p<.001 in perception?promotion plan but bottleneck haven't been found. Third, regarding the comparison of perception?bottleneck?promotion plan per public communication, meaningful discrepancy have been found at p<.001 in perception?promotion plan but bottleneck haven't been found. Fourth, regarding the comparison of perception?bottleneck?promotion plan per career, statistically meaningful discrepancy have been found at p<.001 in perception but bottleneck? promotion plan haven't been found. Fifth, regarding the comparison of perception?bottleneck?promotion plan per monthly income meaningful discrepancy have been found at p<.001 in perception?promotion plan but bottleneck haven't been found. Sixth, regarding the comparison of perception?bottleneck?promotion plan per satisfaction of participation, meaningful discrepancy have been found at p<.001 in perception?promotion plan but bottleneck haven't been found. In order to promote Taekkyon as a sport for All, synergy should be created from various elements including facilities, trainers, programs, communication activities, matches and related policy to further facilitate Taekkyon. At the same time, it is also important to execute ideas.
