Submerged arc welding, which is generally used for the corner joint of box-section columns, is a welding process with a high heat input. The influence on the strength and toughness of the heat-affected zone is an important concern, especially when used with a high-performance steel that may be more susceptible to heat input. The ductility of the welded corner joint is one of the important factors to ensure safety against external forces, such as during severe earthquakes. In this study, a series of material and cyclic loading tests of the corner joint comprising SA440C high-performance steel fabricated by submerged arc welding were conducted. The experimental results indicated that the welded corner joint comprising SA440C steel is ductile enough to dissipate input energy caused by the strong ground motion from an earthquake.
Hysteretic Behavior of RHS Columns Under Random Cyclic Loading Considering Local Buckling

In this paper, a hysteretic model of rectangular hollow section (RHS) columns that includes the deteriorating range caused by local buckling is proposed. The proposed model consists of the skeleton curve, the Bauschinger part that appears before reaching the maximum strength, the strength increasing part of the deteriorating range, and the unloading part. Of these, the skeleton curve, including the deterioration range caused by local buckling, which is considered to be equivalent to the load-deformation relationship under monotonic loading, is obtained through an analytical method. Bi-linear hysteretic models based on experimental results are applied to the Bauschinger part and the strength increasing part. The elastic stiff ness is applied to the unloading part. The proposed model is verifi ed by comparing with experimental results of RHS columns under monotonic and cyclic loading.

A concise hysteretic model of 590 N/mm 2 grade high performance steel SA440 which is used in Japan for building structure is proposed. First, cyclic loading tests of steel components under constant and programmed strain amplitude are performed. Then, hysteresis characteristics are modeled by decomposing the hysteresis curve into the skeleton part, Bauschinger part and the elastically unloading part. The skeleton part and the Bauschinger part are modeled by using the monotonic test result and bi-linear model, respectively. The proposed model is examined by comparing with test results. In addition, a series of member analysis is conducted with proposed model as for the example of application.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the dosimetric difference between simultaneous integrated boost intensitymodulated radiotherapy (SIB-IMRT) and three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), and the clinical outcomes of anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) chemoradiotherapy featuring SIB-IMRT. Materials and Methods: This study included ten patients with ASCC who underwent chemoradiotherapy using SIB-IMRT with 5-fluorouracil and mitomycin C. SIB-IMRT delivered 54 Gy to each primary tumor plus metastatic lymph nodes and 45 Gy to regional lymph nodes, in 30 fractions. Four patients received additional boosts to the primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes; the median total dose was 54 Gy (range, 54 to 60 Gy). We additionally created 3DCRT plans following the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group 9811 protocol to allow dosimetric comparisons with SIB-IMRT. Locoregional control, overall survival, and toxicity were calculated for the clinical outcome evaluation. Results: Compared to 3DCRT, SIB-IMRT significantly reduced doses to the external genitalia, bladder, and intestine, delivering the doses to target and elective nodal region. At a median follow-up time of 46 months, 3-year locoregional control and overall survival rates were 88.9% and 100%, respectively. Acute toxicities were treated conservatively. All patients completed radiotherapy with brief interruptions (range, 0 to 2 days). No patient experienced ≥grade 3 late toxicity during the follow-up period. Conclusion: The dosimetric advantages of SIB-IMRT appeared to reduce the toxicity of chemoradiotherapy for ASCC achieving high locoregional control in the extended period.

Germination of Styrax japonicus seeds is promoted by warm stratification (WS) at 18-20°C followed by cold stratification (CS) at 4-5℃. The objective of this work was to analyze the state and mobility of water molecules measured by 1H-NMR and endogenous gibberellins (GAs) and abscisic acid (ABA) by ultra performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) as influenced by WS and CS treatments had not previously been investigated. Styrax seeds that received 35 days of WS (35D WS) followed by 63 days of CS (63D CS) (35D WS + 63D CS) germinated. Seeds that received only 35D WS failed to germinate. Endogenous GA_1, GA_8, GA_(19), GA_(20), and GA_(53) were identified as well as GA_(17), GA_(23), GA_(28), GA_(29), and GA_(97) by gas chromatography/MS (GC/MS) and UPLC-MS/MS in seeds that were treated with warm and cold stratification (WS + CS). This suggests that the early C-13 hydroxylation pathway [-GA_(53)-(GA_(44))-GA_(19)-GA_(20)-GA_1-GA_8] of GAs is a major biosynthetic pathway in the seeds. The concentration of GA_(53) and GA_(19) increased following WS and that of GA_(53) increased after WS + CS. The concentration of GA_(19) increased only slightly after WS + CS. The concentration of GA1 increased only after WS + CS. ABA concentration significantly decreased following the WS treatment. It is concluded that the mobility of water molecules and water content in cotyledons and endosperm is increased following WS + CS treatments. The occurrence of C-13 hydroxylated GAs suggests that the early C-13 hydroxylation pathway, → GA_(53) → GA_(44) → GA_(19) → GA_(20) → GA_1 → GA_8, is a major biosynthetic pathway in Styrax seeds.

Objective: To assess the noncontrast two-dimensional single-shot balanced turbo-field-echo magnetic resonance angiography (b-TFE MRA) features of the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) status following endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and evaluate to detect endoleaks (ELs). Materials and Methods: We examined four aortic stent-grafts in a phantom study to assess the degree of metallic artifacts. We enrolled 46 EVAR-treated patients with AAA and/or common iliac artery aneurysm who underwent both computed tomography angiography (CTA) and b-TFE MRA after EVAR. Vascular measurements on CTA and b-TFE MRA were compared, and signal intensity ratios (SIRs) of the aneurysmal sac were correlated with the size changes in the AAA after EVAR (AAA prognoses). Furthermore, we examined six feasible b-TFE MRA features for the assessment of ELs. Results: There were robust intermodality (r = 0.92–0.99) correlations and interobserver (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.97–0.99) agreement. No significant differences were noted between SIRs and aneurysm prognoses. Moreover, “mottled high-intensity” and “creeping high-intensity with the low-band rim” were recognized as significant imaging findings suspicious for the presence of ELs (p < 0.001), whereas “no signal black spot” and “layered high-intensity area” were determined as significant for the absence of ELs (p < 0.03). Based on the two positive features, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for the detection of ELs were 77.3%, 91.7%, and 84.8%, respectively. Furthermore, the k values (0.40–0.88) displayed moderate-toalmost perfect agreement. Conclusion: Noncontrast MRA could be a promising imaging modality for ascertaining patient follow-up after EVAR.
Frame Vibration Suppression Method for Sensorless PMSM Drive Applications

This study proposes a novel frame anti-vibration controller for position sensorless PMSM drive application. This controller is called specific component reduction controller (SCRC). SCRC can function without an accelerometer and can achieve speed variable control. This study mainly comprises the following phases. First, the position sensorless control method will be provided. Second, the frame vibration model and load torque ripple will be shown. Third, SCRC will be discussed and its stability will be analyzed. Finally, experimental results show that SCRC can achieve speed variable anti-vibration control and compensate target frequency torque ripple.
