In this study, the proximate composition of Pyropia dentata was compared by the analysis of minerals and amino acids that were produced at Seocheon, Chungcheongnam-do and at Wando and Jangheung, Jeollanam-do. Moisture, ash and crude proteins were analyzed using the AOAC method, and crude lipid was analyzed using the Soxhlet method, and inorganic analysis was performed using ICP-OES. Amino acid was used for the amino acid analyzer. The proximate composition analysis, moisture content, maximum values were displayed in Wando while the maximum content of ash appeared at Jangheung's Pyropia. Crude proteins was appeared at Seocheon's Pyropia and the maximum amount of crude lipid, carbohydrate was appeared in Wando's Pyropia. Inorganic analysis, calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, nickel, zinc were analyzed from the Seocheon's Pyropia, however, cobalt, chromium, and nickel was not detected in Wando's Pyropia. For amino acid analysis, a total of 17 amino acids were detected: leucine, valine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and the amount of alanine accounted for about 57 % of total amino acids(26.1-28.7 %). The proximate composition, minerals, and amino acid of Pyropia dentata were different depending on the coastal ecological habitats.
Case Report : A Case of Isolated Pulmonary Mucormycosis in an Immunocompetent Host

Mucormycosis is a rare fungal disease that holds a fatal opportunistic fungal infection in diabetes mellitus, hematological malignancy, and immunocompromised host. Isolated pulmonary mucormycosis is extremely rare. Optimal therapy is a combined medical-surgical approach and a management of the patient`s underlying disease. Herein, we report a case-study of isolated pulmonary mucormycosis which was being presented as multiple lung nodules in a patient with no underlying risk factors. Considering that the patient had poor pulmonary functions, we treated him with only antifungal agent rather than a combined medical-surgical approach. After treatment with antifungal agent for six months, the nodules of pulmonary mucormycosis were improved with the prominent reductions of size on the computed tomography.
Stabilization of a Bias-Compensated Normalized Least-Mean-Square Algorithm for Noisy Inputs

<P>This paper proposes a stability-guaranteed bias-compensated normalized least-mean-square (BC-NLMS) algorithm for noisy inputs. The bias-compensated algorithms require the estimated input noise variance in the elimination process of the bias caused by noisy inputs. However, the conventional methods of estimating the input noise variance in those algorithms might cause the instability for a specific situation. This paper first analyzes the stability of the BC-NLMS algorithm by investigating the dynamics of both the mean deviation and the mean-square deviation in the BC-NLMS algorithm. Based on the analysis, the estimation of the input noise variance and the adjustment of the step size are carried out to perform a stabilization as well as a performance enhancement in terms of a steady-state error and a convergence rate. Simulations in system identification and acoustic echo cancellation scenarios with noisy inputs show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing bias-compensated algorithms in the aspect of the stability, the steady-state error, and the convergence rate.</P>
Design and fabrication of multi-layer antireflection coating for III-V solar cell

ZnS and ZnS―MgF_2 composite films were prepared on soda-lime glass substrates and MgF_2 films on GaAs by rf magnetron sputtering to investigate multi-layer antireflection (AR) coatings. Optical constants of these films were determined by envelope method and spectroscopic ellipsometry. In particular, ZnS―MgF_2 composite films were fabricated by co-sputtering of ZnS and MgF_2 target to obtain intermediate refractive index material for a middle layer in the triple-layer AR coating and these films exhibited the desired intermediate refractive index. Based on the extracted optical constants, single-, double- and triple-layer AR coatings on GaAs substrates were designed and fabricated by rf magnetron sputtering. Low reflectance could be obtained from single-layer AR coating only at a specific wavelength and could be obtained from multi-layer AR coating at wide wavelength regime. Additionally, incident angle dependence of the reflectance of the multi-layer AR coatings was also investigated and showed different behavior according to a number of layers.
Characteristics of transparent conducting Al-doped ZnO films prepared by dc magnetron sputtering

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films were deposited on soda-lime glass substrates by using dc magnetron sputtering as a function of argon gas pressure, O<SUB>2</SUB>/Ar gas ratio and substrate temperature, and their electrical and optical properties were investigated. As a result, the resistivity of the AZO films decreased with decreasing argon gas pressure or O<SUB>2</SUB>/Ar gas ratio. However, the lowest resistivity could be obtained at the substrate temperatures of 250 °C. The higher substrate temperature increased the resistivity a little. The transmittance was found to be very sensitive to O<SUB>2</SUB>/Ar gas ratio and substrate temperature. Addition of a very small amount of oxygen to argon (1.23% of O<SUB>2</SUB>/Ar ratio) or slight increase of the substrate temperature from room temperature to 150 °C enhanced the transmittance in visible region remarkably. Conclusively, the AZO films with low resistivity of order of 10<SUP>−4</SUP> Ω cm and high transparency in visible region could be prepared at the substrate temperatures of above 150 °C (the lowest resistivity of 3.19 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> Ω cm at 250 °C) by dc magnetron sputtering and these films are applicable to various fields which require transparent conducting oxide films.</P>

Background: Currently, patients requiring ventilator care for more than 96 h are defined as undergoing prolonged acute mechanical ventilation (PAMV), and the number of such patients is expected to increase. We evaluated the clinical factors related to a poor prognosis by analyzing patients requiring PAMV in the medical intensive care unit (ICU) of a university-affiliated tertiary care hospital in Korea. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data collected from March 2008 to February 2013. During the study period, 311 patients (41%) were categorized as on PAMV. We analyzed the prognostic factors on day 28 using clinical data gathered from the medical records on day 4 of mechanical ventilation (MV). Results: The median age of the enrolled patients was 67 [interquartile range (IQR) 59-75] years and 223 (71.7%) were male. The 28-day mortality rate after ICU admission was 34.7%. The most common underlying comorbidity was chronic lung disease (31.5%). The median ICU and hospital stays were 15 (IQR 9-27) and 26 (IQR 15-50) days, respectively. The median Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores on the admission day were 17 (IQR 13-21) and 5 (IQR 3-6), respectively. Four variables on day 4 of MV (neuromuscular blocker required [hazard ratio (HR) 2.432, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.337-4.422; p=0.004], vasopressor required [HR 2.312, 95% CI 1.258-4.248; p=0.007], hemodialysis required [HR 1.913, 95% CI 1.018-3.595; p=0.044], and body mass index = 21 [HR 1.827, 95% CI 1.015-3.288; p=0.044]) were independent factors associated with mortality based on a Cox proportional hazards model that excluded patients (n=12) with a do-not-resuscitate order given before day 4. Conclusions: Four clinical factors on day 4 of MV appear to indicate a poor prognosis in patients with PAMV: vasopressor required, neuromuscular blocker required, hemodialysis required, and body mass index = 21.
