The Interplay between Comprehensive Use of Performance Management Systems and Corporate Financial and Non-Financial Performance: Evidence from Saudi Arabia

Ahmed Abdullah Saad AL-DHUBAIBI(Ahmed Abdullah Saad AL-DHUBAIBI ) 한국유통과학회 2023 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.10 No.1

A significant body of prior research on performance management systems (PMSs) either explains the components and the design of the systems or investigates the link between particular system/s and organizational functions, capabilities, or performance. In contrast, this study investigates the comprehensive use of PMSs and relates them to corporate financial and non-financial performance. Further, this study examines whether the association between PMSs and performance varies between industries or is moderated by the size of the company. Data was collected using a questionnaire that was sent to companies from different industries operating in Riyadh province, where the most important businesses in Saudi Arabia are located. A total of 152 usable responses were received. The results of this study revealed that companies use a variety of PMSs at a balanced level. The extent of each category of PMS use is associated with the extent of other PMS categories’ use. However, the larger the company, the more PMSs it uses. Importantly, the results showed a positive and significant association between PMSs’ extent of use and both financial and non-financial performance. This association was minimally moderated by the company size and industry for specific categories of PMSs and performance.

Role of Alloying Composition on Mechanical Properties of CuZr Metallic Glasses During the Nanoindentation Process

        Saade Abdalkareem Jasim,Muneam Hussein Ali,Zaid Hameed Mahmood,Mohammad Rudiansyah,Forat H. Alsultany,Yasser Fakri Mustafa,Montather F. Ramadan,Aravindhan Surendar 대한금속·재료학회 2022 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.28 No.9

This paper aims to indicate the role of alloying composition on the nanomechanical properties of metallic glasses (MGs). Forthis purpose, the molecular dynamics simulation of nanoindentation process was performed for a wide range of Cu–Zr glassycompositions. The results indicated that the yielding event enhanced with the rise of Cu content; however, there existed anoptimized composition for the maximum hardening effect in the system. The investigation on the evolution of shear bandsalso showed that the formation of pile-ups around the indentation site and the propagation of dominant shear bands into theglassy structure occurred in the Cu-rich MGs. On the other side, the increase in Zr content led to the creation of a net-likeshear arrangement under the indented site. Moreover, the Voronoi tessellation analysis indicated that the decreasing/increasingrate of polyhedron types during the indenting process strongly relied on the alloying compositions.

      • A Reconfigurable Controller for Testing On-Chip Voltage Converters

        Saad Arslan,Syed Asmat Ali Shah,HyungWon Kim 대한전자공학회 2018 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2018 No.6

When testing on-chip voltage converters driving on chip loads, the use of external loads and control signal generation is not a feasible. External loads add unwanted parasitics while externally generated signals experience varying delays. To overcome these problems, on-chip reconfigurable control signal generation and load is needed. In this paper, a flexible on-chip controller is presented to test integrated voltage converters. The controller when accompanied by reconfigurable load circuit offers a comprehensive solution. Additionally, the controller is programmable through SPI for easy switching between test scenarios. Synopsys design platform is used for synthesis, Place and Route (PNR), and simulations. PNR simulations verify the controller"s SPI interface and control signal generation at 50 Hz clock frequency.

      • A Novel Olfactory Displays' Scent Dispersing Module

Saad Hameed Abid,Zhiyong Li,Renfa Li,Jumana Waleed 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.1

Olfactory display devices have become a recent demand and trend in human computer interaction, providing a new member in the human computer interaction peripheral devices family. These devices enrich the olfactory sense for the user stimulating him/her by means of scent stimuli in correspondence to an object or an event shown on the visual display. Some researches have been done to cover the design, usage and delivery for the scent to the users, other works covered some analysis on the scent categorization and grouping. In this paper a focus is on the controlled atomization of a liquid based scent material while guaranteeing: speed, intensity, durability, compactness and scalability, these important factors are crucial to build a commercial grade olfactory displays containing a universal, interchangeable and versatile but yet durable scent disparity component to facilitate the realization of olfactory display devices.

What are the Potential Economic Benefits of Enlarging the Gulf Cooperation Council?

        Saade Chami,Selim Elekdag,Ivan Tchakarov 한국국제경제학회 2007 International Economic Journal Vol.21 No.4

This paper uses a variant of the IMFs Global Economy Model (GEM)to estimate the macroeconomic benets of Yemens acesion into theGulf Coperation Council (GC). After calibrating the model to Yemenand the GC block, several simulations are caried out o estimate thepotential impact of economic integration on both regions. The paperdraws two fundamental conclusions. First, regional integration enhancescompetition which produces large conomic benets for both Yemen andthe GC. In particular, we show that in some cases economic integrationcan increase GDP in Yemen by up to 14 percent and in the GC byup to 7 percent over the long run. Second, even if market structures donot improve substantialy, GC enlargement can stil generate substantialspilover gains in each block. More specicaly, one measure of economicprosperity measured by consumption can increase by up to 7 percent inYemen and up to 8 percent in the GC.JEL Clasication Numbers: F02; F41; F47

Abstract

Background

The histological classification or subtyping of non-small cell lung cancer is essential for systematic therapy decisions. Differentiating between the two main subtypes of pulmonary adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma highlights the considerable differences that exist in the prognosis of patient outcomes. Physicians rely on a pathological analysis to reveal these phenotypic variations that requires invasive methods, such as biopsy and resection sample, but almost 70% of tumors are unresectable at the point of diagnosis.

Method

A computational method that fuses two frameworks of computerized subtyping and prognosis was proposed, and it was validated against publicly available dataset in The Cancer Imaging Archive that consisted of 82 curated patients with CT scans. The accuracy of the proposed method was compared with the gold standard of pathological analysis, as defined by theInternational Classification of Disease for Oncology (ICD-O). A series of survival outcome test cases were evaluated using the Kaplan–Meier estimator and log-rank test (p-value) between the computational method and ICD-O.

Results

The computational method demonstrated high accuracy in subtyping (96.2%) and good consistency in the statistical significance of overall survival prediction for adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma patients (p < 0.03) with respect to its counterpart pathological subtyping (p < 0.02). The degree of reproducibility between prognosis taken on computational and pathological subtyping was substantial with an averaged concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) of 0.9910.

Conclusion

The findings in this study support the idea that quantitative analysis is capable of representing tissue characteristics, as offered by a qualitative analysis.

Highlights

This study proposes a computational method for radiomics.

The method combines computerized subtyping with patient outcome prognosis.

The computational method demonstrates high subtyping accuracy (96.2%).

The results are consistent with those of the conventional qualitative method.

The findings of this study can help determine an optimal therapeutic strategy.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

      • The Negative Effect of the Peace Treaties in Building Trust in the Arab Israeli Conflict: Measuring the Current Situation by Following the Jordanian Press Indictors

( Saad Abu Dayeh ) 부산외국어대학교 지중해연구소 2009 The Mediterranean Review Vol.2 No.2

This paper will follow up the historical developments and events of the peace process in the Middle East as well as how the struggle for Palestine started and all the efforts which have taken place to achieve peace and win the war. There were several major wars that took place between 1948 and 1973. The first war was in 1948, the second was in 1956, the third was in 1967, and the fourth was in 1973. The peace process started after the third war in the Resolution of the Security Council 242 in 1967. But the peace was frozen and the attrition war continued from 1967, to 1970. The first American initiative took place in 1970. The American diplomacy started when President Nixon insteaded the first initiative by his foreign minister William Roger. Then the USA started the Step by Step Diplomacy in the Middle East. I have followed all the events of war and diplomacy during this period in time and have detailed the obstacles and future capabilities of peace in the Middle East. The first peace treaty was signed between Egypt and Israel in 1979. Since then, I have observed that there is a difference between achieving peace and achieving a peace treaty. It is not necessarily that there is peaceful climate when there is a peace treaty between the Arabs and Israel. Israel refers to this climate as a Normalization of Relations. If the peace treaty is an independent variable, the peace will not be a dependent variable. The Arabs say "normalizations" are the decisions of the active will of the people and not the government. Formally, governments sign treaties with Israel and leave the actualization to the people. This has been said by King Hussein in 1994. The people are directly influenced by the events and developments in the occupied territories. Sometimes there is an excessive use of power by Israel in Gaza. The Israeli press has confessed on several occasions about this excessive use of power. I will cover the roots of this conflict and the development of events leading up to 1994. It is worthy to note the effects of war and peace and to later judge if the peace treaties are on the same level of these efforts in peace and war.

      • US-China Strategic Competition: Implications for International Order

Saad Bin Zaffar Sraw,Mir Sher Baz Khetran 아시아사회과학학회 2021 Jornal of Asia Social Science Vol.4 No.2

The paper attempts to identify the key areas where a strategic competition is being played out between US and China and its possible implications for overall regional and global order. It includes a broad based probe into the nuances of ramifications that this fundamental competition, which some chose to name as conflict, shall entail. Not only will it have political consequences, but will help change the overall strategic complexion and economic superstructure of the world besides altering the rules based international order beyond recognition. It is one of the most important and significant geo-strategic, geo-political and geo-economic moment of the century and we all stand at the cusp of a massive change for which we are neither ready nor prepared. The objective of the study is to investigate nature of the competition, changes it has brought to the threat spectrum, articulation of possible responses by states involved in it and ways in which it will transform the world that we see today.
