A significant body of prior research on performance management systems (PMSs) either explains the components and the design of the systems or investigates the link between particular system/s and organizational functions, capabilities, or performance. In contrast, this study investigates the comprehensive use of PMSs and relates them to corporate financial and non-financial performance. Further, this study examines whether the association between PMSs and performance varies between industries or is moderated by the size of the company. Data was collected using a questionnaire that was sent to companies from different industries operating in Riyadh province, where the most important businesses in Saudi Arabia are located. A total of 152 usable responses were received. The results of this study revealed that companies use a variety of PMSs at a balanced level. The extent of each category of PMS use is associated with the extent of other PMS categories’ use. However, the larger the company, the more PMSs it uses. Importantly, the results showed a positive and significant association between PMSs’ extent of use and both financial and non-financial performance. This association was minimally moderated by the company size and industry for specific categories of PMSs and performance.

The succession of wet and dry periods due to seasonal variations strongly influences the behavior of expansive clayey soils, and the negligence of this influencing parameter can compromise the long-term stability of structures built on these soils. To analyze this specific cyclic behavior, laboratory tests were performed during three wetting-drying successive cycles. In addition, the cyclic effect analysis was combined to the applied load effect in order to evaluate how the applied load can affect the cyclic behavior of expansive soils (clayey soil from the north of Safi, Morocco). It clearly appears that upon successive cycles, both swelling and shrinkage deformations decrease, and that the applied load modifies the soil behavior by reducing both deformations and soil kinetics.

Background: Phytic acid (PA) is a polyphosphorylated carbohydrate that can be found in high amounts in most cereals, legumes, nut oil, seeds and soy beans. It has been suggested to play a significant role in inhibition of colorectal cancer. This study was conducted to investigate expression changes of ${\beta}$-catenin and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and cell proliferation in the adenoma-carcinoma sequence after treatment with rice bran PA by immunocytochemistry. Materials and Methods: Seventy-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 6 equal groups with 12 rats in each group. For cancer induction two intraperitoneal injections of azoxymethane (AOM) were given at 15 mg/kg bodyweight over a 2-weeks period. During the post initiation phase, two different concentrations of PA, 0.2% (w/v) and 0.5% (w/v) were administered in the diet. Results: Results of ${\beta}$-catenin, COX-2 expressions and cell proliferation of Ki-67 showed a significant contribution in colonic cancer progression. For ${\beta}$-catenin and COX-2 expression, there was a significant difference between groups at p<0.05. With Ki-67, there was a statistically significant lowering the proliferating index as compared to AOM alone (p<0.05). A significant positive correlation (p=0.01) was noted between COX-2 expression and proliferation. Total ${\beta}$-catenin also demonstrated a significant positive linear relationship with total COX-2 (p=0.044). Conclusions: This study indicated potential value of PA extracted from rice bran in reducing colonic cancer risk in rats.

Objectives: Physical inactivity is the fourth leading global risk factor for mortality, followed by obesity. The combination of these risk factors is associated with non-communicable diseases, impaired physical function, and declining mental function. The World Health Organization recommends physical activity to reduce the mortality rate. Thus, this study examined the effects on anthropometric measurements of a 12-week walking program for elderly people in Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia with a 7000-step goal and weekly group walking activities. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted involving 109 elderly people with a body mass index (BMI) ≥25.0 kg/m2. BMI, body composition, and average daily steps were measured at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0, and repeated-measures analysis of variance with the paired t-test for post-hoc analysis was conducted. Results: In total, 48 participants in the intervention group and 61 participants in the control group completed the study. A significant interaction was found between time and group. The post-hoc analysis showed a significant difference between pre-intervention and post-intervention (within the intervention group). The post-intervention analysis revealed an increase in the mean number of daily steps by 3571.59, with decreases in body weight (-2.20 kg), BMI (-0.94 kg/m2), body fat percentage (-3.52%), visceral fat percentage (-1.29%) and waist circumference (-2.91 cm). Skeletal muscle percentage also showed a significant increase (1.67%). Conclusions: A 12-week walking program combining a 7000-step goals with weekly group walking activities had a significant effect on the anthropometric measurements of previously inactive and overweight/obese elderly people.

This investigation examines English as foreign language college interdisciplinary and intercultural differences in learning strategy use and their implications for language processing. Positivism underpins this research at the levels of ontology (standardized variables), epistemology (detachment from the subjects) and methodology, using nomothetic research strategy (survey), instruments (questionnaires) and data analysis techniques (multivariate analysis of variance and analysis of variance). Main findings show interdisciplinary differences between the Humanities and Science majors in student use of compensation strategies in favour of the Science major while finding no intermajor differences in student use of other strategies. The findings indicate no ethnic differences in learning strategy use, since European, American and Eastern ethnicities almost use typical strategies. Therefore, disagreements on alleged unmediated deterministic relationships between ethnicity and cognitive processing remain in place. Instead, curriculum and instructional designs, strategy training and individual differences rather than cultural stereotypes influence language processing. For curriculum and instructional designs to facilitate language processing and pedagogy, effective strategies should underlie national, classroom-level and school-level curriculum developments.

Saad, Ali Kandil,Tantawy, Osama A. E.,Yakout, Mohammed Mostafa,Saleh, Salem Ali M. Korean Institute of Intelligent Systems 2009 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL of FUZZY LOGIC and INTELLIGE Vol.9 No.4
In this paper we introduce stronger form of the notion of cover so-called p-cover which is more appropriate. According to this cover we introduce and study another type of compactness in L-fuzzy topology so-called $C^*$-compact and study some of its properties with some interrelation.
Effect of porosity on the free vibration analysis of various functionally graded sandwich plates
Saad, Mohamed,Hadji, Lazreg,Tounsi, Abdelouahed Techno-Press 2021 Advances in materials research Vol.10 No.4
In this paper, a simple refined shear deformation theory which eliminates the use of a shear correction factor was presented for free vibration analysis of FG sandwich plates composed of FG porous face sheets and an isotropic homogeneous core. Unlike any other theory, the number of unknown functions involved is only four, as against five in case of other shear deformation theories. Material properties of FGM layers are assumed to vary continuously across the plate thickness according to either power-law function in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The face layers are considered to be FG porous across each face thickness while the core is made of a ceramic homogeneous layer. Four models of porosity distribution are proposed. Governing equations and boundary conditions are derived from Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions were obtained for free vibration analysis of square sandwich plates with FG porous layers under various boundary conditions. Numerical results are presented to show the effect of the porosity volume fraction, type of porosity distribution model, side to thickness ratio, lay-up scheme, and boundary conditions on the free vibration of FG sandwich plates. The validity of the present theory is investigated by comparing some of the present results with other published results.
