Bayesian Conjugate Analysis for Transition Probabilities of Non-Homogeneous Markov Chain: A Survey

The present study surveys Bayesian modeling structure for inferences about transition probabilities of Markov chain. The motivation of the study came from the data that shows transitional behaviors of emotionally disturbed children undergoing residential treatment program. Dirichlet distribution was used as prior for the multinomial distribution. The analysis with real data was implemented in WinBUGS programming environment. The performance of the model was compared to that of alternative approaches.
모바일 기기에서의 화면크기와 글자크기가 가독성에 미치는 효과

최근 다양한 활동이 이루어지고 있는 모바일 기기에서의 가독성은 제품의 품질을 결정짓는 주요한 요인으로 자리잡고 있다. 모바일 기기에서의 가독성은 화면크기에 따라 영향을 받으며, 화면의 크기는 글자크기와 상호 교환적 관계에 있다. 본 연구에서는 모바일 기기에서의 화면 크기와 글자크기가 가독성에 미치는 효과를 한글을 통해 알아보고자 한다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 세 가지 크기의 모바일 기기에서의 다섯 가지 글자크기에 대한 읽기시간을 측정하는 실험을 피험자 33 명을 대상으로 진행하였다. 실험 분석 결과, 화면크기와 글자크기에 따른 교호작용이 나타났다. 화면크기 소와 중에서는 글자크기 2.4mm 에서 가장 빠른 읽기시간을 보였으며 2.6mm 에서는 가장 느린 읽기시간을 보였다. 화면크기 대에서는 글자크기 2.6mm 에서 가장 빠른 읽기시간을 보였으며 2.2mm 에서 가장 느린 읽기시간을 보였다. 따라서 최적의 읽기 수행능력을 위해서는 화면크기가 달라짐에 따라 글자크기 또한 다르게 적용되어야 한다. 본 연구의 실험결과는 설계자와 사용자가 화면크기와 글자크기에 대한 선택을 하는데 가이드가 될 수 있을 것이다. Activities with smart devices have been more complicated and diversified, and font legibility is the major factor that influences these activities both directly and indirectly. The legibility of the devices is affected by display size, which is related to font size on the display. This study investigated the effect of display size and font size of Korean letter on readability of mobile devices. This study measured readability by examining reading time for three different display size with five different font sizes from 33 participants. We analyzed the main effect of display size and font size, as well as their interaction effect. The result showed that there was a significant interaction effect between display size and font size. On small display and medium display, the reading time was the shortest in font size 2 .4mm, and the longest in font size 2.6mm. On large display, the reading time was the shortest in font size 2 .6mm, and the longest in font size 2.2mm. The result of this study will help designers and users in selecting the display and font size.
Catalytic Electron Transfer at Nanoporous Indium Tin Oxide Electrodes

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We investigated the enhancement of one electron transfer kinetics at the nanoporous indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes. In this study, the origin of the catalytic activity in nanoporous electrodes was explored with regard to the effects of confined morphology of the electrode to the heterogeneous electron transfer enhancements. In order to look into the geometric contribution to electrocatalytic activity, we chose ITO as the electrode material due to its chemically inert surface on which most electron transfer reactions occur very slowly. Systematic variation of nanoporous ITO layer thickness allows us to effectively exclude the surface-originated electrocatalytic effects of the nanoporous electrodes such as defects. It was clearly found that the single electron transfer of Fe<SUP>2+/3+</SUP> involving no proton transfer is more facilitated at thicker ITO nanoporous layers, which has longer pores, and this geometric enhancement was more evident at lower temperatures.</P>
계층적 베이지안 혼합 효과 모델을 사용한 비동차 마코프 체인의 분석

본 연구에서는 비동차 마코프 체인에서 개체들의 전이 행태를 분석하기 위한 계층적 베이지안 방법론을 사용하여 혼합 효과 모델을 소개 하였다. 모델의 모수들에 대한 사후분포가 분석적으로 구해질 수 없는 형태를 가지기 때문에 깁스(Gibbs) 샘플링 시뮬레이션 방법을 사용하여 조건부 사후확률로부터 샘플이 추출되었고, 실제 자료분석을 예를 사용하였다. The present study used a hierarchical Bayesian approach was used to develop a mixed effect model to describe the transitional behavior of subjects in time nonhomogeneous Markov chains. The posterior distributions of model parameters were not in analytically tractable forms; subsequently, a Gibbs sampling method was used to draw samples from full conditional posterior distributions. The proposed model was implemented with real data.

<P>Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by a deficiency in arylsulfatase A (ARSA). However, decreased ARSA activity is also observed in pseudodeficiency (PD). To distinguish between MLD and PD, we performed gene mutation and sulfatide analyses by using dried blood spots (DBSs) from seven Korean individuals who underwent an analysis of ARSA activity. DNA was extracted from DBSs, and PCR-direct sequencing of <I>ARSA</I> was performed. The cDNA obtained was analyzed to confirm a novel mutation. Of the seven subjects, three were confirmed as having MLD, one was confirmed as having MLD-PD, one was confirmed as having PD, and the remaining two were obligate heterozygotes. We verified the novel pathogenic variant c.1107+1delG by performing familial and cDNA analyses. Sulfatide concentrations in DBSs were analyzed and were quantified by using ultra-performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry, respectively. Total sulfatide concentration was inversely correlated with ARSA activity (Spearman's coefficient of rank correlation, <I>P</I>=0.929, <I>P</I>=0.0025). The results of this mutational and biochemical study on MLD will increase our understanding of the genetic characteristics of MLD in Koreans.</P>
Chloroplast genome of white wild chrysanthemum, Dendranthema sp. K247003, as genetic barcode

Dendranthema boreale and D. indicum are easily distinguished from other Korean Dendranthema spp. by having yellow flowers. We have found a putative new taxon of Dendranthema having white flowers, except for sharing most characters with Dendranthema boreale. The chloroplast (cp) genome of the putative new taxon of Dendranthema, Dendranthema sp. K247003, registered in National Agro-Biodiversity Center (ABC), was completely characterized as a genetic barcode. The cp-genome of Dendranthema sp. K247003 was 151,175-bp in size: LSC was 82,886-bp, IR 24,971-bp, SSC 18,347-bp. The cp-genome of Dendranthema sp. K247003 contains 113 genes and 21 introns consisted of 79 protein coding genes, 4 RNA genes, and 30 tRNA genes, with 20 group II introns and one group I intron. Some of the genes and there introns were duplicated in IR. The cp-DNA of Dendranthema sp. K247003 is distinguished from that of D. boreale IT121002 by 67 SNPs in genic regions of 24 protein coding genes and by a 9-bp INDEL in ycf1. Further cp-DNA study will give us better information on genetic markers of Dendranthema species.
