Toxorhynchites are often nicknamed “elephant mosquitoes” due to their large size and bent proboscis. These colorful mosquitoes are generally covered with iridescent and metallic-colored scales and do not require blood feeding to perform their oogenesis since females acquire all the required proteins during their larval stages. Consequently, they are not involved in the transmission of pathogens, and are not considered to be of medical importance. This genus is comprised of 89 species worldwide, including three in Cambodia. During a survey conducted in Veun Sai Siem Pang National Park and in Kirirom National Park in 2021, several larvae of Toxo rhynchites were collected inside pitchers of the carnivorous plant Nepenthes smilesii. Stag beetle fauna of Cambodia (Coleoptera: Lucanidae)

To date, no species catalogue of stag beetles (Lucanidae) has been compiled for Cambodia. According to the available literature, we assembled the checklist based on the previously recorded and recognized Cambodian lucanid species in the country. In the present paper, we newly record four species from Cambodia: Falcicornis axisopsis (Séguy, 1954); Neolucanus similis Bomans & Ratti, 1976; Prosopocoilus suturalis (Olivier, 1789); and Prosopocoilus jenkinsi (Westwood, 1848). An updated checklist of the Cambodian stag beetles is given. The total number of the Cambodian lucanid species has now reached 29, but this species count is considerably less diverse than those in neighboring countries. Our study suggested that this poor diversity is not primarily due to biogeography or small country size but to a lack of research effort.

Purpose: Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy (LRH) can be performed with an intracorporeal anastomosis (IA) or extracorporeal anastomosis (EA). It is not clear which technique is best. This study evaluated the impact of each anastomosis technique on perioperative safety and postoperative evolution. Methods: We performed a retrospective study at a tertiary colorectal surgery center. All patients who had an elective LRH from 2015 to 2019 were analyzed according to the anastomosis technique used. Results: In total, 285 patients were included in the study. IA was performed in 64 patients (22.5%). Mean operative time was longer in the patients with IA (IA, 160±31 minutes vs. EA, 138±42 minutes; P<0.001). No differences were observed in intraoperative complications, time to first bowel movement, length of stay, reoperation, or rehospitalization. Time to first flatus was longer in the patients with IA (P=0.049). At 30 days after surgery, there were no differences in the frequency of anastomotic leak (IA, 0% vs. EA, 2.3%; P=0.59), bleeding (IA, 3.1% vs. EA, 2.7%; P>0.99), or intraabdominal abscess (IA, 0% vs. EA, 0.5%; P>0.99). During follow-up, we noted more incisional hernias in patients with EA (IA, 1.6% vs. EA, 11.3%; P=0.01) and a trend toward more hernia in patients with EA in multivariate analysis (hazard ratio, 7.13; P=0.06). Anastomosis technique had no influence on recurrence. Conclusion: For LRH, both IA and EA are safe, with a low incidence of complications when performed by experienced surgeons. IA may be associated with a lower incidence of incisional hernia.

Bispecific antibodies (bsAb) represent the most promising class of therapeutics due to their multiple mode of action. Their development raised tremendous efforts with a special focus on the engineering of these complex molecules, especially when they adopt an asymmetrical format. Various strategies have been successful in improving heterodimerization through the introduction of point mutations to force the correct pairing of opposite chains using either steric, electrostatic steering effects or both. These great advances in protein engineering combined with the development of robust process purification methods to remove homodimers have contributed to the fast progress of bsAbs towards clinics. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of systematic and efficient production methods to fine tune the expression of correctly paired bsAbs. In this study, we have evaluated the effects of manipulating different molar ratios of three polypeptide chains constituting a model bsAb, co-transfected, expressed and assembled in a single Chinese Hamster Ovary cell line. Two parental clones showing different heterodimerization and productivity profiles were chosen. We demonstrated that addition of gene copies at specific ratios to these clones could bias towards the generation of sub-clones with either reduced proper assembly or tune expression for enhanced integral bsAb. Our results demonstrate that expression of bsAb can be influenced beyond the initial engineering stage.

In many industrial sectors, workers are exposed to manufactured or unintentionally emitted airborne nanoparticles (NPs). To develop prevention and enhance knowledge surrounding exposure, it has become crucial to achieve a consensus on how to assess exposure to airborne NPs by inhalation in the workplace. Here, we review the literature presenting recommendations on assessing occupational exposure to NPs. The 23 distinct strategies retained were analyzed in terms of the following points: target NPs, objectives, steps, “measurement strategy” (instruments, physicochemical analysis, and data processing), “contextual information” presented, and “work activity” analysis. The robustness (consistency of information) and practical aspects (detailed methodology) of each strategy were estimated. The objectives and methodological steps varied, as did the measurement techniques. Strategies were essentially based on NPs measurement, but improvements could be made to better account for “contextual information” and “work activity”. Based on this review, recommendations for an operational strategy were formulated, integrating the work activity with the measurement to provide a more complete assessment of situations leading to airborne NP exposure. These recommendations can be used with the objective of producing homogeneous exposure data for epidemiological purposes and to help improve prevention strategies.
Fixtureless Inspection of Deformable Parts Using Partial Captures

A general scheme to validate the shape of a deformable part consists in performing a non-rigid alignment between measurements on the part’s surface with its CAD model. In many algorithms, this process requires the acquisition of a complete model of the inspected part, including regions near its fixation points. This paper proposes a system to perform inspection without the need to digitize the entire part’s surface or regions near fixation points. This algorithm uses instead of standard fixation points, surface feature points to compute the non-rigid transformation. Various tests on real parts show that a reduction of up to 58% of the RMS deviation in less than 3 iterations can be obtained using a single view of the part’s surface.

Ferritins isolated from the hemolymph of the chiton Acanthopleura hirtosa and the limpet Patella laticostata have been studied by ^57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy, electron diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectrometry. Mossbauer spectra of the samples at 78 K were quadrupole-split doublets with similar quadrupole splittings and chemical isomer shifts, characteristic of octahedral high-spin iron(III), while at 4.2K the spectra were magnetically split sextests. The spectra yield mean superparamagnetic blocking temperatures of about 32 and 30 K for the A. hirtosa and P. laticostata ferritins, respectively, and indicate magnetic ordering temperatures of about 37 and 34 K. Core size distributions were measured for both the A. hirtosa and P. laticostata ferritins by using TEM and gave mean core size ranges of 8.0-8.5 and 7.5-8.0 nm, respectively. Diffuse lines in the electron diffraction patterns of the ferritin cores indicated the presence of ferrihydrite(5Fe_2-O_3·9H_2O) of limited crystallinity. Phosphorus to iron atomic ratios were measured by ICP spectrometry. The phosphorus levels were close to the limit of detection, giving approximate mean values of D:Fe of 1:44 for the P. laticostata ferritin and 1:36 for the A. hirtosa ferritin. These levels of phosphate are significantly less than those for the crystalline cores of mammalian ferritins and considerably less than those for the noncrystalline core of bacterioferritins.

Objective: According to recent European Society of Medical Oncology, European Society of Gynaecological Oncology and European Society of Radiotherapy and Oncology guidelines,adjuvant vaginal brachytherapy (VB) is optional in patients with intermediate risk (IR) and high-intermediate risk (HIR) endometrial cancer (EC). The aim of this French retrospective,multicenter study was to assess the impact of VB in these groups on local recurrence rate,local recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). Methods: Data of 191 patients with IR and HIR EC who underwent primary surgery with or without VB and no other adjuvant treatment between 2000 and 2016 were extracted from the FRANCOGYN database. Rate of local recurrence, OS and local RFS in these two groups were compared using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The number of patients with IR and HIR EC were 118 and 73 respectively. VB was used in 92 patients in IR group and 43 in HIR group. Median follow-up was 22 months. In the HIR group, the local recurrence rate was significantly higher in the no adjuvant therapy group in comparison with the VB group (16.7% and 0% respectively, p=0.02). There was also a significant improvement in local RFS (p=0.01) in VB group. In IR EC, there is no significant difference on local recurrence rate (4.2% and 3.2%, respectively, p=1.00) or local RFS (p=0.54) between the two groups. Conclusions: VB is an efficient adjuvant treatment for patients with HIR EC. VB is not associated with an improvement of RFS or OS in IR EC patient.
