      • Syntheses, crystal structures, circular dichroism, and magnetic properties of chiral dinuclear and polymeric nickel(II) compounds

        Chiral dinuclear nickel(II) complexes, [Ni(L<SUP>R,R</SUP>)(C<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>)Ni(L<SUP>R,R</SUP>)](ClO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>.4CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN (3) and [Ni(L<SUP>S,S</SUP>)(C<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>)Ni(L<SUP>S,S</SUP>)](ClO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>.4CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN (4) and chiral polymeric compounds, [Ni(L<SUP>R,R</SUP>)(CrO<SUB>4</SUB>)]<SUB>n</SUB>.2H<SUB>2</SUB>O.CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN (5) and [Ni(L<SUP>S,S</SUP>)(CrO<SUB>4</SUB>)]<SUB>n</SUB>.2H<SUB>2</SUB>O.CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN (6) have been synthesized and characterized (L<SUP>R,R/S,S</SUP>=1,8-di((R/S)-α-methylbenzyl)-1,3,6,8,10,13-hexaazacyclotetradecane). These chiral compounds were characterized by X-ray crystallography, circular dichroism, and molecular magnetism. The nickel(II) ions in 3 and 4 have a distorted octahedral geometry by coordination with four nitrogens of a macrocyclic ligand with chiral pendents in a folded conformation and two oxygens of an oxalate ion in the cis positions. The nickel(II) ions in 5 and 6 have a distorted octahedral geometry by coordination with four nitrogens of a macrocyclic ligand in a planar conformation and two oxygens of two chromate ions in the axial positions. Complexes 3 and 4 show strong antiferromagnetic interactions [3: g=2.36, J/k<SUB>B</SUB>=-29.9K (-20.8cm<SUP>-1</SUP>); 4: g=2.18, J/k<SUB>B</SUB>=-25.5K (-17.7cm<SUP>-1</SUP>)], while 5 and 6 exhibit weak antiferromagnetic couplings [5: g=2.25, J/k<SUB>B</SUB>=-1.20K (-0.83cm<SUP>-1</SUP>); 6: g=2.25, J/k<SUB>B</SUB>=-0.68K (-0.47cm<SUP>-1</SUP>)]. The former complexes occur strong antiferromagnetic interactions via the oxalato bridges within the nickel(II) dimers, the latter compounds are weak antiferromagnetic interactions through the chromate ions within the 1D polymers. The circular dichroism (CD) spectrum of 3 has exhibited two negative peaks at 336 and 533nm, and that of 4 has displayed an enantiomeric pattern. The CD spectrum of 5 has appeared a negative absorption above ca. 550nm, while that of 6 has shown an enantiomeric pattern in the same wavelength region.

        <P>The magnetization behaviors have been analyzed for Ni54Mn21-xVxGa25 (x=0,2,4) alloys which were prepared by conventional arc melting method in argon atmosphere. The Curie temperature T-C was found to be 325, 300, and 265 K and the austenitic transition temperature T-A on heating was found to be 315, 217, and 124 K for x=0, 2, and 4, respectively. The magnetic characteristics were performed with a Quantum Design superconducting quantum interference device magnetometer in the field of up to 20 kOe. A large magnetic entropy change Delta S-M, which is calculated from H versus M curves associated with the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transitions, has been observed.       • Development of the Bio-signal Measurement System for Diagnosis of the Urinary Incontinence

        The diagnosis of the urinary incontinence is decided by medical doctor's subjective conclusion with question, physical test and urodynamic test. Therefore, they can do misdiagnosis and it is limited to objectively support the result of the diagnosis. It is necessary to diagnose exactly because of the treatment pattern have to change according to degree of urinary incontinence. In this study, it is proposed that the development of the bio-signal measurement system which is useful for quantitative index at the diagnosis of urinary incontinence by using to measure contraction pressure of the pelvic floor muscle. The contraction pressure of the pelvic floor muscle was measured by balloon sensor and was changed electrical signal by pressure sensor. Electrical signal was transmitted to PC through the DAQ pad. In PC, GUI was composed to analyze pressure data and to extract the diagnostic parameters. Using the bio-signal measurement system that was proposed in this study, the contraction pressure data were acquired from a normal person and a stress urinary incontinence patient and numeric diagnostic parameters were extracted using developed analysis S/W. After comparing each diagnosis parameters, we can find the difference in differential pressure and pressure reducing rate. With these results, diagnostic parameters were considered that it will be able to use as the index of quantitative urinary incontinence diagnosis.

      • Optical Characterization of Self-Organized InAs Quantum Dots Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

        We present experimental results concerning optical characterizations in self-organized InAs/GaAs quantum dot (QD) structures grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The luminescence measurements are performed in a closed cycle refrigerator in a temperature range of 17 to 280 K. The redshifts for the luminescence emission from the QDs occurs concurrently with narrowing of the full width at half maximum (FWHM) as a result of thermal perturbation. The existence of the QD luminescence signal at room temperature indicates an evidence for QD formation by lateral confinement. Furthermore, QDs grown on GaAs (311)A substrate exhibit a smaller FWHM than those on GaAs (100) substrate.

        Improvement of Thermoelectric Properties through Controlling the Carrier Concentration of AgPb18SbTe20 Alloys by Sb Addition

        The effect of Sb addition on the thermoelectric properties of the AgPb18Sb1+xTe20 (x = 0 - 1) compounds (LAST-18 compounds) has been investigated in a temperature range between 323 K and 723 K. The measured thermoelectric properties were compared with LAST-18 (x = 0 composition) previously reported and fabricated using the same procedure. All samples showed a negative Seebeck coefficient, which implies the major carrier is the electrons. The carrier concentration of the samples with additional Sb was larger than that of the LAST-18 compounds, indicating that Sb is acting as a donor element in the LAST compounds. From the results of XRD, the Seebeck coefficient, and Hall measurement, the solubility limit of Sb in LAST was estimated. The maximum dimensionless figure of merit, ZT, was obtained for the x = 0.2 composition, where the value was ZT = 1.33 at 723 K. The enhancement of ZT was attributed to the increment of the carrier concentration,resulting in a dramatic reduction of electrical resistivity compared with LAST-18.

        Control of Thermoelectric Properties through the addition of Ag in the Bi0.5 Sb1.5 Te3Alloy

        In this study, the thermoelectric properties of the Ag-doped Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 compounds were investigated in the temperature range from 323 K to 573 K. Ingots were fabricated by a conventional melting process and the powder crushed from ingots was then sintered using a hot-pressing method. The temperature dependence of the Seebeck coefficient and the electrical conductivity of the Ag-doped Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3compound are characteristic of degenerate semiconductors, which is fairly different from the conventional Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 compound. The power factor (α 2 σ) of the quaternary compound was larger than that of the ternary, which is mainly due to the increase in the electrical conductivity with doping content of Ag. The thermal conductivity was greater than that of the Ag-freeBi0.5Sb1.5Te3compound in the temperature range from 323 K to 523 K. The lattice thermal conductivity showed low values throughout the temperature range. The maximum value of the dimensionless figure of merit (ZT) of the 0.05 wt. % Ag-doped compound and the ternary alloy were 1.2 at 373 K and 0.88 at 323 K, respectively. Each of the maximum peak ZT shifts to a higher temperature region with increases in the doping content of Ag. This is likely due to the control of the lattice thermal conductivity by the twin structure, which had a nano-ordered layer.

        Chiral mononuclear copper(II) complexes, [Cu(L<SUP>R,R</SUP>)(ClO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>] (1) and [Cu(L<SUP>S,S</SUP>)(ClO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>] (2) and chiral polymeric compound, [Cu(L<SUP>S,S</SUP>)(CrO<SUB>4</SUB>)].6H<SUB>2</SUB>O (3) have been synthesized (L<SUP>R,R/S,S</SUP>=1,8-di((R/S)-α-methylbenzyl)-1,3,6,8,10,13-hexaazacyclotetradecane). These compounds were characterized by X-ray crystallography, circular dichroism, and molecular magnetism. The copper(II) ions in 1-3 have a distorted octahedral geometry by coordinating four nitrogens of a macrocyclic ligand in a square planar conformation and two oxygens in the axial positions. 3 exhibits weak antiferromagnetic coupling via the chromate ions within the 1D chain. The circular dichroism (CD) spectrum of 1 has shown a negative and positive peak at 474 and 562nm, and that of 2 has displayed an enantiomeric pattern. The CD spectrum of 3 appears positive signal above 610nm.

      • Application of genetically engineered Salmonella typhimurium for interferon-gamma-induced therapy against melanoma

        Salmonella have been experimentally used as anti-cancer agents, because they show selective growth in tumours. In this study, we genetically modified attenuated Salmonella typhimurium to express and secrete interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) as a tumouricidal agent to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of Salmonella. IFN-γ was fused to the N-terminal region (residues 1-160) of SipB (SipB160) for secretion from bacterial cells. Attenuated S. typhimurium expressing recombinant IFN-γ (S. typhimurium (IFN-γ)) invaded the melanoma cells and induced cytotoxicity. Subcutaneous administration of S. typhimurium (IFN-γ) also efficiently inhibited tumour growth and prolonged the survival of C57BL/6 mice bearing B16F10 melanoma compared with administration of phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), unmodified S. typhimurium or S. typhimurium expressing empty vector (S. typhimurium [Vec]) in a natural killer (NK) cell-dependent manner. Moreover, genetically modified Salmonella, including S. typhimurium (IFN-γ), showed little toxicity to normal tissues with no observable adverse effects. However, S. typhimurium (IFN-γ)-mediated tumour suppression was attributed to direct killing of tumour cells rather than to stable anti-tumour immunity. Collectively, these results suggest that tumour-targeted therapy using S. typhimurium (IFN-γ) has potential for melanoma treatment.

        인과 칼슘의 수준이 낮은 산란계 사료 내 미생물 Phytase의 첨가가 생산성 및 영양소 소화율에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 인과 칼슘의 수준이 낮은 산란계 사료내 미생물 phytase의 첨가가 생산성 및 영양소 소화율에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여 실시되었다. 사양시험은 50주령 ISA brown 갈색계 192수를 공시하였으며, 사양시험은 7일간의 적응기간 후, 12주간 실시하였다 시험설계는 옥수수-대두박 위주의 사료에 NRC 요구량에 맞춰 Available P과 Ca을 처리한 구(CON; 기초사료), 기초사료에 Available P과 Ca을 각각 대조구 사료의 $50\%$와 $90\%$를 함유한 사료에 3종류의 미생물phytase PHYTEX, Agranco. Co. $0.01\%$(P1), Natuphos, BASF $0.06\%$(P2), PHOSMAX GENOFOCUS $0.06\%$(P3)를 첨가한 처리구로 4개 처리를 하였다. 총 12주간의 사양 시험기간동안 산란율은 처리구간에 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다 (P>0.05). 시험 종료시 난중은 처리구에서 유의적으로 높게 평가되었다(P<0.05). 난각 두께는 시험 9주째 phytase를 급여한 처리구가 대조구와 비교하여 두꺼워졌다(P<0.05). 시험개시시와 종료시 혈청 내 Ca 함량의 차이는 P1처리구에서 가장 적은 변화를 보였으나, 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 보이지 않았으며, P함량에 있어서도 처리구간 유의성은 보이지 않았다(P>0.05). 경골 내 Ca과 P의 함량은 phytase를 급여한 처리구가 대조구에 비하여 유의적인 차이 없이 높은 경향을 보였다(P>0.05). DM, N과 Ash의 소화율에 있어서는 대조구와 P1 처리구가 P2, P3 처리구와 비교하여 유의적으로 증가하였다(P<0.05). Ca과 P에 있어서는 P2 처리구의 소화율이 가장 높게 나타났으며(P<0.05)), 대조구와 P1 처리구는 서로 통계적인 차이를 보이지 않았다(P>0.05). 모든 처리구들이 대조구보다 유의하게(P<0.01) 낮았고 Ercherichia coli의 수는 유의한 차이가 없었다. Lactobacilli의 수는AM30구가 대조구보다 유의하게(P<0.05) 높았다. 결론적으로 활성 미네랄수 $30\%$흡착 zeolite의 사료 내 첨가는 대조구에 비하여 육계의 증체율을 개선시키는 경향이 있었으며 깔짚에서 암모니아 가스 발생도 유의하게 감소시켰고 장내 Lactobacilli의 수를 유의하게 증가시켰다.결과를 얻을 수 있으리라 생각한다.내산에서는 S.typhimurium $(33\%)$이 분리 되었으나, 미국산 닭날개에서는 Salmonella 속균이 전혀 분리되지 않아 대조적이었다. 하지만, 중국산의 닭부분육(혼합육)에서는 S. enteritidis와 L. monocytogenes도 함께 분리되었다. 그러나 부분육의 경우 국내산 및 수입산 모두에서 Campylobacter 속균과 E. coli O157:H7 균주는 전혀 분리되지 않았다. 서울${\cdot}$경기지역의 재래시장과 백화점에서 시판되고 있는 계란 총 446개에 대해서도 동일한 절차와 방법으로 조사하였던바, 재래시장에서 구입했던 계란의 난각부분(Egg-shell)에서만 가금티푸스(fowl Typhoid)의 병원체인 S. gallinarum이 1주$(0.2\%)$만이 분리되었고, 기타 세균으로서는 대장균군이 역시 난각에서 가장 높은 빈도로 분리되었고, 난황(Yolk)에서는 극히 낮은 수준의 세균오염도를 보였다. 다양한 동물종유래 S. aureus 균주들의 유전학적 분석목적에 가장 신뢰도 높고 감별능력이 뛰어난 분석기법으로 선발되었다.cid로부터 cyclooxygenase를 통해 일단 생성된 endoperoxide에서 각각의 prostaglandin을 생성하는 효소, 특히 $G-Rb_{2}$는 $TxA_{2}$ This Study was conducted to investigate the effects of microbial phytase in low phosphirus and calcium level diet on the performance and nutrient digestibility in laying hens. One hundred ninety two, 50 wks old, ISA brown commerical layers were used for 12 weeks feeding trial after 7-d adjustment period. Four dietary treatments included CON(control; Co.), P2 ($0.06\%$ Natuphos, BASF) and P3 ($0.06\%$ PHOSMAX, GENOFOCUS). Ca and available P concentrations of P1, P2 and P3 were 90 and $50\%$ of NRC recommecdations to accentuate difference in response to phytase availability. In whole period, egg production was not affected by treatments. At 12 weeks, egg weight was significantly increased in adding phytase treatments (P<0.05). Egg shell thickness was increased in P1, P2 and P3 treatments compared with control (P<0.05) at 9 weeks. Ca concentration of serum tended to decrease in P1 treatment without significant difference (P>0.05). Ca and P concentrations of tibia were higher in layers fed dietary phyrase than those fed control diet without significant difference (P>0.05). Digestibilities of DM, N and ash were improved in P1 treatment compared with P2 and P3 treatments (P<0.05). Ca and P digestibilities were the highest in P2 treatment (P>0.05), but was not significant difference between control and P1 treatments.
