Microscopic calcification within the basal ganglia was reported by Virchow and Bamberger in 1855. The description of symmetrical cerebral calcification, particularly of the basal ganglia and often of the dentate nuclei, associated with hypoparathyroidism as related by Eaton, Camp and Love(1939) was a significant development in the field of calcification. Calcification of the basal ganglia has been visualized by skull radiography and computed tomography(CT) scan, and in two-thirds of cases, it has been associated with metabolic and endocrine abnormalities. Computed tomography is more sensitive to detect the intracranial calcification than plain skull radiography. The purpose of our report was evaluate the significance of basal ganglia calcification as visualized by CT, and dicussed on pathogensis of calcification, clinical significance and management under the hypocalemia.
Reactions of Ni-B on printed Ag pattern by using nearly neutral electroless bath.

<P>In this study, we investigated the characteristics of a nearly neutral Ni source solution including dimethylamine borane (DMAB) used to develop the metal PCB (printed circuit board) of high power LED (light-emitting diode) package. In accordance with the bath temperature ranging from 50 degrees C to 75 degrees C, an electroless Ni-B plating on a screen-printed Ag pattern with an anodized Al substrate was carried out. The depositon rate of the electroless plated Ni-B film at bath temperature ranging from 50 degrees C to 75 degrees C was estimated by measurements of the thickness and the mass. The deposition rates by change of thickness and mass of the electroless plated Ni-B film at 50 degrees C were - 58 nm/min and 0.113 mg/min respectively. The activation energy obtained from slope of Arrhenius plot using these deposition rates was - 59 kJ/mol. Finally, selectively the film growth was achieved at all plating temperatures, without a damage of anodized Al substrate.</P>

We investigated the effects of DMAB (Borane dimethylamine complex, C2H10BN) in electroless Ni-B film with addition of DMAB as reducing agent for electroless Ni plating. The electroless Ni-B films were formed by electroless plating of near neutral pH (pH 6.5 and pH 7) at $50^{\circ}C$. The electroless plated Ni-B films were coated on screen printed Ag pattern/PET (polyethylene terephthalate). According to the increase of DMAB (from 0 to 1 mole), the deposition rate and the grain size of electroless Ni-B film increased and the boron (B) content also increased. In crystallinity of electroless Ni-B films, an amorphization reaction was enhanced in the formation of Ni-B film with an increasing content of DMAB; the Ni-B film with < 1 B at.% had a weak fcc structure with a nano crystalline size, and the Ni-B films with > 5 B at.% had an amorphous structure. In addition, the Ni-B film was selectively grown on the printed Ag paste layer without damage to the PET surface. From this result, we concluded that formation of electroless Ni-B film is possible by a neutral process (~green process) at a low temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.
Bone Morphogenic Protein-2 (BMP-2) Immobilized Biodegradable Scaffolds for Bone Tissue Engineering

Recombinant human bone morphogenic protein-2 (rhBMP-2), which is known as one of the major local stimuli for osteogenic differentiation, was immobilized on the surface of hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified poly$(\varepsilon-caprolactone)$ (PCL) (HA-PCL) scaffolds to improve the attachment, proliferation, and differentiation of human bone marrow stem cells (hBMSCs) for bone tissue engineering. The rhBMP-2 proteins were directly immobilized onto the HA-modified PCL scaffolds by the chemical grafting the amine groups of proteins to carboxylic acid groups of HA. The amount of covalently bounded rhBMP-2 was measured to 1.6 pg/mg (rhBMP/HA-PCL scaffold) by using a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay. The rhBMP-2 immobilized HA-modified-PCL scaffold exhibited the good colonization, by the newly differentiated osteoblasts, with a statistically significant increase of the rhBMP-2 release and alkaline phosphatase activity as compared with the control groups both PCL and HA-PCL scaffolds. We also found enhanced mineralization and elevated osteocalcin detection for the rhBMP-2 immobilized HA-PCL scaffolds, in vitro.

The prognosis of patients with malignant brain tumors has improved only slightly despite the combined use of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Immunotherapy offers some possibilities and hopes as a fourth modality for the treatment of cancers although it is still in the early stages of development. It is possible to classify immunotherapy within four generally accepted modalities : 1) restorative or nonspecific immunotherapy 2) adoptive immunotherapy 3) passive immunotherapy 4) active immunotherapy. The techniques of recombinant DNA, genetic engineering, cell fusion and hybridoma production, and molecular biology will make these therapeutic approaches more successful and as the clinical applications expand the skillful cancertherapist will become increasingly familiar with these treatments and the problems associated with their use.
