We present the shape determination method of 3-D reinforcement corrosion based on observed temperature on concrete surface. The non-destructive testing for reinforcement corrosion in concrete using a heat image on concrete surface have been proposed by Oshita. The position of the reinforcement of corrosion or the cavity can be found using that method. However, the size of those defects can not be precisely measured based on the heat image. We therefore proposed the numerical determination system of the shape for the reinforcement corrosion using the observed temperature on the concrete surface. The adjoint variable method is introduced to formulate the shape determination problem, and the finite element method is employed to simulate the heat transfer problem. Some numerical experiments and the examination for the number of the observation points are shown in this paper.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of differently maturing corn hybrids on silage production and milk production per unit area in the northern part of Japan, where grain development occurs under decreasing ambient temperature. Both hybrids were harvested at the same time. The stages of maturity for the early-maturing hybrids (EH; 80 d relative maturity) and the mid-maturing hybrids (MH; 93 d relative day) were early dent and late dough stage, respectively. The plant yields for MH were higher than those for EH. The dry matter (DM) content of MH was lower than that for EH, and the effluent loss for MH silage was greater than that for EH silage. Therefore, the DM yields of prepared silage per area were similar for both treatments. Twelve multiparous mid-lactation Holstein cows ($58{\pm}13$ days in milk) were fed diets based on EH or MH silage in a crossover design with two 3-week periods. Cows were fed 3 kg of hay crop silage (DM basis) and either EH or MH silage ad libitum, and concentrates were supplied to meet NRC requirement for dairy cows. Silage DM intake for EH was found to be higher (p<0.05) than that for MH (10.0 vs. 9.1 kg/day). Milk production and milk composition for EH were similar to those for MH. Feed efficiency per total feed intake was similar in both treatments, although the feed efficiency per concentrate intake tended to be higher for the EH than that for the MH diet. These results indicate that differences in maturation in corn hybrids affect the effluent production of silage and the silage intake of dairy cows. It may be advantageous to plant early hybrid corn with a reduction in effluent production of silage as well as a reduction in purchased feed costs for dairy cows under the climatic conditions of the northern part of Japan.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the association between skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) and physical activity among female university students who had exercise habituation in junior and high school. Methods: The body composition of 120 Japanese female students was measured using the bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) method, and their physical activity level (PAL) was measured using a factorial method. Based on the ‘Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese’ (DRIs-J), according to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, PAL (24-h energy consumption/basal metabolic rate) classifications were defined as low-PAL (PAL < 1.6), moderate-PAL (1.6 ≤ PAL < 1.9), and high-PAL (1.9 ≤ PAL < 2.2), respectively. Results: Individuals with low-PAL had a significantly lower SMI, especially for the lower limb muscles, than individuals with moderate-PAL or higher. More than 50% of the individuals with currently low-PAL corresponded or tended to correspond to the SMI cut-off value defined by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia or the 2017 National Health and Nutrition Survey of Japan. Therefore, more than half of the female students with currently low-PAL, even those with an exercise habituation in the past, corresponded to the cut-off value for muscle loss in sarcopenia diagnosis, particularly in the lower limbs. Conclusions: These results suggest that it is important to maintain a moderate or higher level of physical activity in the DRIs-J classification, even for young women who used to exercise in the past, to maintain muscle mass accordingly.

This paper introduces the studies conducted from the 1980s to the 2000s on the Daimyo clan of the Tokugawa period, along with the introduction of the research history on the master-servant relationship. The introduction of the research history mainly deals with the studies of Asao Naohiro (朝尾直広), Kasaya Kazuhiko (笠谷和比古), Takano Nobuharu (高野信治), Fukuda Jijeuru (福田千鹤), Fujita Datsuoh (福田达生), Miyake, Masathiro (三宅正浩). and discusses the distinctive characteristics of these studies from the 1990s, 1980s, and 2000s respectively. The following points have been confirmed by these studies. First, the relationship between Daimyo as an individual and a Daimyo courtier was not necessarily static. Secondly, the Daimyo clan was an object of loyalty for Daimyo courtiers. Nowadays, it is very difficult to discuss the master-servant relationship of the Tokugawa period without distinguishing Daimyo as an individual from Daimyo as a clan.

Fluorescence lifetime images of HeLa cells expressing enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) have been measured as apoptosis is induced by tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$ (TNF-$\alpha$) in combination with cycloheximide. The fluorescence lifetime of EGFP is found to decrease after the induction of apoptosis, indicating that the change in environment occurs around the chromophore of EGFP with the apoptosis process. The fluorescence lifetime imaging technique can be used to perform in vivo observation of cell death processes. Fluorescence lifetime measurements are useful to examine the induction of the apoptosis process, even when a morphological change of each cell cannot be observed because of a low spatial resolution.
Multi-bump standing waves with critical frequency for nonlinear Schrodinger equations

We glue together standing wave solutions concentrating around critical points of the potential V with different energy scales. We devise a hybrid method using simultaneously a Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method and a variational method to glue together standing waves concentrating on local minimum points which possibly have no corresponding limiting equations and those concentrating on general critical points which converge to solutions of corresponding limiting problems satisfying a non-degeneracy condition.
