        TRANSFORMATION OF RELIGION IN VIETNAM``S PUBLIC LIFE : THE CASE OF CHRISTIANITY

        In the last two decades we see really a boom in religious worship in Vietnam. Religions are becoming more visible. Everywhere there are new and newly renovated pagodas, temples and churches. There are religious transformations in public rituals, in the movies and in the other arts as well as the mass media. Not only peasants, intelligentsia and workers who were typical worshipers in traditional Vietnamese society, but now also officials and businessmen are active in worship. On the other side, the Communist party of Vietnam (CPV) step by step departs from Marxist doctrine and carries out a relatively open policy on religious affairs since its 24th Resolution in 1990 as a consequence of the collapse of the Communist block. But despite the fact that the relationship between the Vietnamese authorities and some religious organizations in Vietnam is radically improved, it is not always clear in the case of Christianity. There are many reasons for that situation including of the relationship between this monotheist religion and colonialism during the colonial period and during the both Indochina and Vietnam wars. But beside of those, the cultural-religious factors should be not underestimated. The contrary between Christian and Marxist world outlooks have sometime even political characters as we have seen situation under the Nguyen dynasty. Also, the relationship between the communist regime and Christian churches should be analyzed wider in context of relationship between Christian and non-Christian communities because of most communists follow their non-Christian religions and faiths.

        Novel synthesis of highly ordered mesoporous Fe2O3/SiO2nanocomposites for a room temperature VOC sensor

        The controlled synthesis of mesoporous silica and metal oxide nanocomposites with a highly ordered porous structure and large specific surface area for specific applications has been an attractive topic in the field of porous materials. Herein, we introduce a novel method for the fabrication of highly ordered mesoporous structured and large specific surface area Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites, and consider their application in room temperature gas sensors. The mesoporous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites were synthesised by a two-step method, which combines the hydrothermal growth of Fe2O3 nanoparticles and the microemulsion phase of Brij 56 (C16EO10) surfactant as templates in instantly direct-templating synthesis. This synthesis method enables the fabrication of mesoporous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites without distortion of the ordered porous structure after calcination at high temperature. The synthesised materials were found to be efficient in a room temperature VOC sensor application, with good recovery.

        In this era, the integrated technologies in a unit bring huge benefits for customers. In this paper, a novel design of structure for autonomous system is illustrated. It is superior by combining the specifications of various types in commercial market. As a result, numerous advantages of systems are converged into unified unit. The design of autonomous platform consists of hardware components and infrastructure. Later, the modeling of autonomous system is simulated on computer to fit with proposed design. The implementation of control scheme into model is to drive autonomous system to complete mission. From simulation results, it can be seen that the proposed strategy is feasible, effective and capable in reality.

        A Comparative Study on the Adipogenic and Myogenic Capacity of Muscle Satellite Cells, and Meat Quality Characteristics between Hanwoo and Vietnamese Yellow Steers

        Myogenesis and adipogenesis are the important processes determining the muscle growth and fat accumulation livestock, which ultimately affecting their meat quality. Hanwoo is a popular breed and its meat has been exported to other countries. The objective of this study was to compare the myogenesis and adipogenesis properties in satellite cells, and meat quality between Hanwoo and Vietnamese yellow cattle (VYC). Same 28-months old Hanwoo (body weight: 728±45 kg) and VYC (body weight: 285±36 kg) steers (n=10 per breed) were used. Immediately after slaughter, tissue samples were collected from longissimus lumborum (LL) muscles for satellite cells isolation and assays. After 24 h post-mortem, LL muscles from left carcass sides were collected for meat quality analysis. Under the same in vitro culture condition, the proliferation rate was higher in Hanwoo compared to VYC (p<0.05). Fusion index was almost 3 times greater in Hanwoo (42.17%), compared with VYC (14.93%; p<0.05). The expressions of myogenesis (myogenic factor 5, myogenic differentiation 1, myogenin, and myogenic factor 6)- and adipogenesis (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma)-regulating genes, and triglyceride content were higher in Hanwoo, compared with VYC (p<0.05). Hanwoo beef had a higher intramuscular fat and total monounsaturated fatty acids contents than VYC beef (p<0.05). Whilst, VYC meat had a higher CIE a* and total polyunsaturated fatty acids content (p<0.05). Overall, there was a significant difference in the in vitro culture characteristics and genes expression of satellite cells, and meat quality between the Hanwoo and VYC.

        Numerical Analysis of Dielectrophoresis-Based Microfluidic Chip with a Facing-Electrode Design for Cell Separation

        Purpose Circulating tumor cell separation and analysis have played a critical role in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. In this work, we aim to design and investigate a novel biochip that integrates dielectrophoresis, microfl uidic technology to separate circulating tumor cells from blood cells. To create a dielectrophoresis-induced non-uniform electric fi eld, a facing-electrode design was proposed and utilized, in which a slanted electrode array and a simple rectangular ground electrode are placed parallel on the top and bottom parts of the microfl uidic channel, respectively. This design can reduce the particle position dependence in the microchannel and the complexity of the microfabrication process. Methods The separation process, effi ciency, and optimization of the proposed device were numerically investigated using the fi nite element method. Parametric research was conducted to comprehensively examine the impact of various operating and design factors on the cell movement and trajectories in the microfl uidic device. Results The results indicated the potential of the proposed biochip to ensure cancer cell separation from blood cells with high effi ciency, high purity in a label-free, non-invasive, easy integration, and low-cost manner. Under the optimal conditions, the separation effi ciency reached 92%, 88%, and 96% for human colon cancer cells (HT-29), red blood cells, and white blood cells, respectively. Conclusions In this study, a novel DEP-based microfl uidic chip was proposed to separate HT-29 tumor cells from blood cells and numerically investigated to verify the performance of the biochip design. Our fi ndings could provide a foundation for further theoretical and practical investigations. The proposed system can separate cancer cells from red blood cells and white blood cells as well as off ers numerous advantages, such as compact size, low voltage, high effi ciency, non-invasiveness, and label-free nature. The tumor cell enrichment platform has the potential for application in cancer detection, analysis, and assessment.

        Highly effective adsorption of organic dyes from aqueous solutions on longan seed-derived activated carbon

        In this study, longan seeds - an agricultural by-product was used to fabricate activated carbon (LSAC) through two-step pyrolysis with pre-carbonization at low temperature in the first step and then activation by H3PO4. LSAC with large surface area and porous structure exhibits an excellent capacity of absorption towards both cationic dyes (methylene blue (MB), rhodamine-B (RhB)) and anionic dyes (methyl orange (MO), congo red (CR)). Experimental data can be described well by the pseudo-second kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacity based on Langmuir isotherm model was found as 502.84; 397.77; 464.66 and 350.64 mg.g−1 for MB, RhB, MO and CR, respectively. The adsorption of MB, RhB and CR on LSAC is spontaneous and endothermic, while that for MO is spontaneous but exothermic. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism of dyes on LSAC was also studied showing that it can occur by electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, the filling of pores involving the interaction between dye ions with specific functional groups such as –OH, –COOH, –NH2 and –PO43− on the LSAC surface. These results suggest that LSAC material may be envisaged as a promising adsorbent for treatment of wastewater in textile industries.

        THE Exodus of Christians in North Vietnam in History and at Present

        This article pays attention to some similarities between the exodus of Christians after the Geneva agreement and that of Hmong Protestant branches since 1990s. The two cases shows that the exodus of Christians in North Vietnam after Geneva agreement and that since 1990s was caused by religious and political reasons. This transmigration was of course not the first time North Vietnamese had gone south. “Nam tien” (March to the south) began already since eleventh century but those marches were usually not by force. Differing from the nam tien those exoduses had more of a religious and socio-political than a socio-economical character. Given that the situation in Vietnam changed radically since Renovation (Doi Moi) and the collapse of the communist bloc, the Christian communities, Catholic or Protestant, turns out more important in the socio-political field of Vietnam. This article tries to understand a newly changing dynamics of Vietnamese Christian communities with relation to neighboring political powers.
