Prior literature has documented that analysts engage in valuable information discovery and information interpretation. Our contribution is to introduce and document a third role that analysts play that is also valuable to investors, which we term “stock timing.” Specifically, we define a timing report as one where the analyst revises his recommendation but does not revise the Price Target or any of the 23 fundamental drivers of stock price (such as EPS, FCF) tracked by I/B/E/S. Because the analyst maintains the same price target as in his prior report but still revises his recommendation, such timing calls are contrarian valuation calls. Analysts issue timing downgrades (upgrades) in response to price increases (declines) since the release of their prior report on the firm. About 30% of all revisions are timing reports, indicating the importance of the timing role played by analysts. We find the return over a 3-day window around the report date is over 2% in magnitude. Further, 62% of the reports are winners (have announcement returns that have the correct sign), 10% of the reports are large enough to be considered influential, and 37% of the reports are persistent winners. These results suggest that analysts have timing ability. We find considerable cross-sectional and time-series variation in timing ability. We find that the probability of issuing a timing report is positively related to the opportunities to time the stock provided by potential mispricing. Conditional on issuing a timing report, the probability of issuing a winner, an influential winner, or a persistent winner is positively related to analyst experience and negatively related to the costs associated with issuing a timing report.
Metastatic carcinoma of cervix mimicking psoas abscess on imaging: a case report

Cervical cancer can be presented as an unusual and aggressive manner in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)- positive women. There are case reports of psoas abscess which mimick metastasis from cervical carcinoma in HIV-positive patients. However, such cases are very rare in HIV-negative women with only few case reports available in the literature. We report one case of psoas abscess mimicking metastasis in a HIV-negative woman, which was initially diagnosed as spinal tuberculosis. Energy Aware Scheduling of Aperiodic Real-Time Tasks on Multiprocessor Systems

Multicore and multiprocessor systems with dynamic voltage scaling architectures are being used as one of the solutions to satisfy the growing needs of high performance applications with low power constraints. An important aspect that has propelled this solution is effective task/application scheduling and mapping algorithms for multiprocessor systems. This work proposes an energy aware, offline, probability-based unified scheduling and mapping algorithm for multiprocessor systems, to minimize the number of processors used, maximize the utilization of the processors, and optimize the energy consumption of the multiprocessor system. The proposed algorithm is implemented, simulated and evaluated with synthetic task graphs, and compared with classical scheduling algorithms for the number of processors required, utilization of processors, and energy consumed by the processors for execution of the application task graphs.
실세계 조명 정보를 포함하는 HDR영상 기반 소수 광원 추정 기법에 관한 연구

본 논문에서는 실세계 조명 정보를 표현하는 HDR(High Dynamic Range) 영상으로부터 소수의 방향성 광원을 추정하는 기법을 제안한다. 광원 추정을 위해 노출 시간을 달리한 일련의 일반 영상으로부터 실세계의 조명 정보를 선형적으로 표현할 수 있는 HDR영상을 생성한다. HDR영상의 색상 및 명도 변화를 이용하며 영역을 분할하고, 분할된 영역으로부터 명도 평균과 가중치를 이용하여 방향성 광원의 파라미터를 추출하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법의 장점은 비반복적인 기법을 사용하여 일관된 결과를 산출하며 사용자의 입력없이 자동으로 계산하는 것이다. 추정된 광원은 그래픽 하드웨어를 사용한 실시간 렌더링에 적용 가능하다. 또한 실시간 렌더링이 중요한 가상현실이나 증강현실 분야에서 가상의 오브젝트를 렌더링할 때 IBL(Image Based Lighting)등의 전역조명 효과와 유사한 사실적인 영상을 얻을 수 있다.

<P>Here, we introduce graphite oxide (GTO) as an efficient alternative nano-template to graphene oxide (GO) in the hybridization of Co3O4 nanoparticles for high power charge-storage applications. Co3O4/GTO composites (CGTO) were synthesized via a simple hydrothermal route and thermally reduced to produce a composite with a compact microstructure (rCGTO). When compared with a thermally reduced Co3O4/GO composite (rCGO), Co3O4 nanoparticles in rCGTO showed a greatly improved discharge capacity of 326 C.g(-1) vs 166 C.g(-1) at 0.5 A.g(-1). The difference in capacity between rCGTO and rCGO became even more conspicuous as the charge/discharge (C/D) rates were increased (272 vs 82 C.g(-1) at 10 A.g(-1)),which indicated the excellent rate capability of rCGTO. The effectiveness of GTO over GO also led to a significant improvement in cyclability during extended C/D cycles. Ca. 84% of the initial discharge capacity was retained in rCGTO after 8,000 cycles, compared with 26% retention in rCGO. The superior electrochemical performance of rCGTO (greater capacity, high rate capability, and excellent cyclability) was ascribed to the pre-aligned nature of GTO, which allows Co3O4 nanoparticles to be homogeneously sandwiched within compact graphene stacks and to remain intact during repeated C/D cycling. Effect of Rail Irregularities and Rail Pad on Track Vibration and Noise

This paper focuses on the effect of short and long wavelength track irregularities and rail pads on train induced vibration and noise using a train-track interaction model. An Indian rail vehicle is modelled as a spring-mass-damper system, and a ballasted track structure is modelled as an infinite rail resting on the viscoelastic foundation. Long-wavelength track irregularity is obtained from measured field data; however, short-wavelength track irregularity is generated using Sato track spectrum. It is observed that vibration and noise levels are not only higher for short-wavelength compared to long-wavelength but also exceed the limits imposed by the Indian Railway standards. Thus, track properties are modified by varying stiffness and damping of rail pads to reduce vibration and noise levels. The stiffer pads reduced vibration level in the range of 7dB-24dB and noise level in the range of 8dBA-14dBA; hence, stiffer pads are recommended for the ballasted track. Moreover, track properties for short-wavelength also keep vibration and noise levels within the permissible limit for long-wavelength. Thus, modification of track properties based on only short-wavelength irregularity is required.
