      • Stones in Biliary Tract (Common Bile Duct, Common Hepatic Duct, Right and Left Hepatic Duct)

        ( Muhammad Zakria ),( Nauman Muzafar ),( Suhail Iftikhar ),( Faisal Tasleem ),( Muhammad Ashraf ) 대한간학회 2017 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2017 No.1

Aims: Common bile duct exploration (CBDE) is one of the available options in the management of choledocholithiasis. Most of the time we come across a single stone in common Bile Duct, rarely multiple stones and very rarely whole of the biliary system is loaded with stones. Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP) is a gold standard for the stone retrieval in most of cases. In our case report whole of the common bile duct, common hepatic duct, Right and left hepatic duct were loaded with multiple large size stones. Patient came to the hospital very late her biliary tract was very much thickened. ERCP was failed. So we had left only option of open common bile duct exploration. In case of multiple stones in whole of biliary duct system, open technique is the best option and may be the treatment of choice. Methods: A 37 years old lady came in surgical outdoor with pain right side of abdomen. She was diagnosed as obstructed jaundice due to multiple gall bladder and whole of biliary tract stones. Obstruction was relieved by a stent by gastroenterologist. Unfortunately she visited the surgical outdoor clinic after one year due to various reasons. She underwent choledochotomy and all stones from biliary channels were removed. Because of delayed intervention, wall of the biliary channels were very much thick. Hypertrophic mucosa was very much appreciable. Wound was closed over a T-tube were for 2 weeks. Results: Check cholangiogram was normal. Patient was discharge safely with regular follow up advice. Conclusions: Management of stones in Hepatobiliary system is always a test case for the Hepatobiliary surgeon. It is straightforward if single but very much complex if they are multiple and extremely difficult if they involve entire Hepatobiliary channels. Open technique is best option in these cases right from the beginning.

Thermoelectric Properties of Metallic Antiperovskites AXD3 (A=Ge, Sn, Pb, Al, Zn, Ga; X=N, C; D=Ca, Fe, Co)

        Muhammad Bilal,Iftikhar Ahmad,Saeid Jalali Asadabadi,Rashid Ahmad,Muhammad Maqbool 대한금속·재료학회 2015 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.11 No.3

In this paper we communicate the thermoelectric properties of carbon and nitrogen based metallic antiperovskites ANCa3 (A=Ge, Sn, Pb), BCFe3 (B=Al, Zn, Ga) and SnCD3 (D=Co and Fe) using the ab-initio calculations to explore efficient metallic thermoelectric materials. The consistency of the calculated results of SnCCo3 and SnCFe3 with the experimental results confirms the reliability of our theoretical calculations for the other investigated metallic antiperovskites. The results indicate that the thermopower of these materials can be enhanced by changing the chemical potential. The dimensionless figure of merit for the three nitrides approaches 0.96 at room temperature, which proves the usefulness of these materials in thermoelectric generators. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity is minimum at room temperature for chemical potential values between −0.25 μ(eV) and 0.25 μ(eV), and provides the maximum values of dimensionless figure of merit in this range. The striking feature of these studies is identifying a metallic compound, SnNCa3, with the highest value of Seebeck coefficient at room temperature out of all metals. The results anticipate that these materials could be efficient in thermoelectric generators; however, this needs experimental verification.

Prediction of Catenary Action Capacity of RC Beam-Column Substructures under a Missing Column Scenario Using Evolutionary Algorithm

        Iftikhar Azim,Jian Yang,Muhammad Farjad Iqbal,Zafar Mahmood,Muhammad Faisal Javed,Feiliang Wang,Qing-feng Liu 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.3

Catenary action plays crucial role in resisting the applied vertical load at large deformations stage in reinforced concrete (RC) structures. This paper aims to predict the catenary action capacity of RC beam-column substructures by utilizing the distinctive properties of gene expression programming (GEP). The input parameters selected for the modelling are: double-beam span-to-depth ratio, relative axial restraints stiffness, relative rotational restraints stiffness, bottom and top longitudinal reinforcement ratios, and yield strength of longitudinal rebars. A comprehensive and reliable database was collated from internationally published research articles to develop and verify the model. The GEP-based model was assessed by comparing its performance with regression based model. Various statistical indicators and external validation criteria suggested in literature proved that the model is accurate and possess high prediction and generalization capacity. Sensitivity analysis was carried out to show the contributions of the input parameters, while parametric analysis was performed to show that the proposed model is not merely a combination of the input parameters but can accurately represent the given physical system. The proposed formulation from GEP is found to be simple, robust, and easy to utilize for pre-design purposes.

Effect of Carcass Electrical Stimulation and Suspension Methods on Meat Quality Characteristics of Longissimus lumborum of Young Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) Bulls

Jaspal, Muhammad Hayat,Ijaz, Muawuz,Akhtar, Muhammad Junaid,Nasir, Jamal,Ullah, Sana,Badar, Iftikhar Hussain,Yar, Muhammad Kashif,Ahmad, Arfan Korean Society for Food Science of Animal Resource 2021 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.41 No.1

Buffalo animals are slaughtered at their early age and carcasses are chilled rapidly which deteriorates its meat quality and decreases the consumer likeliness of buffalo meat. This study investigated the appropriate methods to prevent the quality deterioration of buffalo meat during chilling. Twenty four 18-mon-old buffalo bulls were slaughtered, electrically stimulated and suspended either by hip or achilles tendon. After 24 h postmortem, meat quality characteristics were recorded. Results showed that electrical stimulation (ES) led to rapid decline of carcass pH compared to non-ES method (p<0.05). Furthermore, electrically stimulated meat presented lower shear force accompanied with the higher CIE L⁎, a⁎, and b⁎ values (p<0.05). Suspension methods only affect the meat shear values and were lowered in hip suspended samples. It can be concluded that ES combined with hip suspension can be adopted to prevent the meat quality deterioration of young buffalo bulls during postmortem storage.

Effect of multi-enzymes supplementation on growth performance, meat quality, ileal digestibility, digestive enzyme activity and caecal microbiota in broilers fed low-metabolizable energy diet

        Yaqoob Muhammad Umar,Yousaf Muhammad,Iftikhar Mubashir,Hassan Safdar,Wang Geng,Imran Safdar,Zahid Muhammad Umer,Iqbal Waqar,Wang Minqi 아세아·태평양축산학회 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.7

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of using low energy diet with multi-enzymes supplementation on different biological parameters in broilers. Methods: Three hundred Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly divided into three groups (Cont, standard metabolizable energy(ME); L-ME, ME reduced by 50 kcal/kg without enzyme; and L-ME-MES, L-ME diet was supplemented with multi-enzymes) with five replicates per group (20 chicks per replicate) at the start of second week. Grower and finisher diets were formulated according to breed specific guide and offered with free access in respective phase (two weeks for grower [8 to 21 d]; two weeks for finisher [22 to 35 d]). External marker method was used to measure the nutrient digestibility. After feeding trial, fifteen birds (one bird per replicate) were selected randomly and slaughtered for samples collection. Results: The results exhibited no effect (p>0.05) of dietary treatments on all parameters of growth performance, carcass traits, relative weight of internal organs except bursa and overall parameters of thigh meat quality. Relative weight of bursa was significantly (p<0.05) higher in L-ME than control. Multi-enzymes supplementation in low-ME diet significantly (p<0.05) improved the breast meat pH 24 h, digestibility of crude protein, duodenum weight and length, jejunal morphology, counts of Lactobacillus spp. and Bifidobacterium spp., lipase and protease activities than control. Jejunum length was increased in both L-ME and L-ME-MES treatments than that of the control (p<0.05). Breast meat cooking loss and color lightness was lower in L-ME (p<0.05) than control. Conclusion: It can therefore be concluded that broilers could be reared on low energy diet with supplementation of multi-enzymes without compromising the growth performance. In addition, it is beneficial for other biological parameters of broilers. Genome-wide identification and comparative analysis of MATE gene family in Cucurbitaceae species and their regulatory role in melon (Cucumis melo) under salt stress

        Shah Iftikhar Hussain,Manzoor Muhammad Aamir,Sabir Irfan Ali,Ashraf Muhammad,Haq Fazal,Arif Samiah,Abdullah Muhammad,Niu Qingliang,Zhang Yidong 한국원예학회 2022 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.63 No.4

The multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE) protein family includes a primeval gene family of secondary transporters that export toxins, extrude metabolites, and participate in plant defense mechanisms. However, lack of information regarding the MATE gene family in Cucurbitaceae, a comprehensive genome-wide analysis of the MATE family was carried out in four Cucurbitaceae species (Cucumis melo, Cucumis sativus, Cucurbita pepo, and Lagenaria siceraria), and 174 MATE genes were identified. Phylogenetic and structural analysis revealed that the Cucurbitaceae MATE transporters family could be further classified into seven subgroups (A–G). GO annotation-based subcellular localization analysis predicted that most of the MATE gene family members localized on the plasma membrane. Moreover, conserved motifs and gene structure (intron/exon) analysis revealed the functional divergence between clades. Transposed duplication events have played a key role in the expansion and evolution of the MATE gene family in Cucumis melo. Cis-acting elements analysis of MATE family genes revealed that these could be targeted by a diverse set of trans-acting factors involving the MATE gene family to manage diverse stress conditions. The Chromosomal localization and molecular characteristics (weight, length, and pI) were performed using numerous bioinformatics tools. Intraspecies microsynteny analysis demonstrated that maximum orthologous genes were found between A. thaliana, C. pepo, C. lanatus, and L. siceraria. Further, functional analysis of microRNAs demonstrated miRNAs are involved in the growth and regulation of MATE genes. Finally, eleven candidates MATE genes were selected randomly, and their expression analysis was carried out via qRT-PCR at 0 h and after 24 h of salt stress. Furthermore, transient CmMATE expression in Arabidopsis thaliana protoplasts showed that protein localized on the plasma membrane. This study provides insights into the functional analysis of the MATE gene family in Cucurbitaceae species and laid down the basic knowledge to explore the role and mechanism of the MATE gene family to cope with severe salt stress conditions.

Backstepping and Synergetic Controllers for the Chemotherapy of Brain Tumor

        Muhammad Zubair,Iftikhar Ahmad,Yasir Islam 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.7

The treatment of brain tumors by chemotherapy through the controlled rate of drug has been a challenging task since long. Two nonlinear control algorithms: 1) synergetic 2) backstepping based controllers have been designed for the therapeutic agent in an updated mathematical model of brain tumor to reduce the tumor cells, to maintain a safe amount of healthy cells, to keep the immune cells above a certain value and ensure a suitable amount of drug during the therapy. Lyapunov stability theory has been used to analyze the system’s asymptotic stability and convergence of the tumor cells to their desired reference. Simulations have been performed in ODE45-Solver of Matlab/Simulink which show that chemotherapy using proposed controllers is effective enough to get the desired objectives.
