<P>Migrating cells in vivo monitor the physiological state of an organism by integrating the physical as well as chemical cues in the extracellular microenvironment, and alter the migration mode, in order to achieve their unique function. The clarification of the mechanism focusing on the topographical cues is important for basic biological research, and for biomedical engineering specifically to establish the design concept of tissue engineering scaffolds. The aim of this study is to understand how cells sense and respond to the complex topographical cues in vivo by exploring in vitro analyses to complex in vivo situations in order to simplify the issue. Since the intracellular mechanical events at subcellular scales and the way of the coordination of these events are supposed to change in the migrating cells, a key to success of the analysis is a mechanical point of view with a particular focus of the subcellular mechanical events. We designed an experimental platform to explore the mechanical requirements in a migrating fibroma cell responding to micro-grooves. The micro-grooved structure is a model of gap structures, typically seen in the microenvironments in vivo. In our experiment, the contributions of actomyosin force generation can be spatially divided and analyzed in the cell center and peripheral regions. The analysis specified that rapid leading edge protrusion, and the cell body translocation coordinated with the leading edge protrusion are required for the turning response at a micro-groove.</P>
Characteristic X-ray Spectrum Analysis of Micro-Sized SiC

It has been investigated what kind of characteristic X-ray in electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA) is effective for the determination of compounds of Si series materials. After comparing the characteristic X-rays among the primary and secondary lines in $K_{\alpha}$ and $K_{\beta}$ obtained from the Si series standard samples, it was found that the secondary line of $K_{\alpha}$ exhibited the most informative spectrum although the intensity was considerably weak. As a result of analyzing the spectrum shapes of the Si series standard samples, the spectrum shape of the secondary line of $K_{\alpha}$ for SiC was different from those for other Si compounds. To grasp the characteristics of the shape, a line was perpendicularly drawn from the peak top to base line in order to divide a spectrum into two areas. The area ratio of right to left was defined to call as the asymmetry index here. As a result, the asymmetry index value of the SiC was greater than one, while those of other Si compounds were less than one. It was found from the EPMA analysis that identification of SiC became successful to distinguish from other Si compounds and this method was applicable for micro-sized compounds in a practical composite material.

Production systems for cloned pigs are very important not only for an increase in production of superior animals but also for the production of knockout animals with organs that do not contain antigens for xenotransplantation or to analyze functions of isolated human genes. At present, however, effective systems have not been developed. We have tried to produce cloned pigs by transfering cultured cells into enucleated oocytes and obtained some cloned embryos. To develop a production system for cloned pigs, the basic technologies needed to support such an effort must be improved.
Contrast Impact of Two-Piece Garments

To measure the contrast impact, the strength of contrast impression, of two-piece garments composed of the blouse made of patterned fabric and black skirt was challenged. Luminance contrast of the blouses of achromatic colors and black skirt that provide equivalent strength of contrast impression was employed as the scale of contrast impact. Relation between the contrast impact and various KANSEI evaluation words was also investigated. Results indicate that contrast impact can be measured in this method, and it strongly correlates positively with KANSEI evaluations of “Showy” and “Bright”, and negatively with “Subdued”.
RESEARCH ON KANSEI COLOR DESIGN BY PLEASANT SOUND

A new paradigm is urgently needed to create the textile product that appeal to human Kansei or Gosei. A future of textiles depends heavily on this new paradigm. In order to create new paradigm Kansei color designs by pleasant sound are tried. These computing color designs are treated by the method of Fast fourier Transformation. As several result good color designs are given in forms of ring color patterns and band. But these judgments depend finally on human kansei. These new technology give us good hints in order to create new paradigm that appeal to Kansei goods. This new concept should be developed to higher level by additional improvements.
