        Uncommon Mechanism of Mangled Extremity; Three Cases of Rope Entanglement Injury of the Lower Leg

        Rope entanglement injury is a rare entity. Previous reported studies mainly consisted of finger-related injuries. We describe three cases of rope entanglement injury of the lower leg. In the first patient, a belowthe- knee amputation was performed as the primary treatment for unilateral amputated lower limb. In the second patient, a below-the-knee amputation and perineal wound management were simultaneously performed. The third patient had vascular injury combined with internal soft tissue injury without related bone fracture. He suffered serious sequelae from a delay in transfer from a local hospital. Rope entanglement injuries of the lower leg do not present in a consistent manner, and the treatment of accompanying injuries should be considered from an early stage. Care should be taken to ensure that there are no internal injuries missed because the exterior appears to be stable.

        Effect of ethanolamine passivation of ZnO nanoparticles in quantum dot light emitting diode structure

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The aging of ZnO nanoparticles in quantum dot light-emitting diode (QD-LED) structures was studied. Coarsening of as-synthesized ZnO nanoparticles is observed in both solution and thin film structures, which potentially deteriorates the performance of QD-LED devices over time. First, the temperature effect on ZnO coarsening was investigated, and it was revealed that aging of ZnO nanoparticles is faster at higher temperature due to a diffusion-controlled mechanism of nanoparticle coarsening. To observe aggregation of ZnO in the film state, the electron transporting part (ZnO/Al) of the QD-LED structure was prepared. The current density of a ZnO film and an electron-only device (QD/ZnO between two electrodes) was also measured. Resistance of the film increased as a function of aging time, which corresponded with observations of the ZnO film by optical microscopy. Aggregation of ZnO nanoparticles was directly measured by the root-mean-square value using atomic force microscopy. Ethanolamine (EA) stabilizer was added to the ZnO solution to disperse the ZnO nanoparticles without aggregation. The effect of EA on the surface passivation of the ZnO found to suppress pinhole formation, as revealed by scanning electron microscopy observations. Finally, the device lifetime was measured for QD-LEDs with EA-stabilized ZnO to understand the effect of ZnO aging on long-term QD-LED device operation.</P>

        나노 입자 분리/분류를 위한 유전영동 칩 및 전극 패시베이션 기술 개발

        Isolation and separation of biological nanoparticles, such as cells and extracellular vesicles, are important techniques for their characterization. Dielectrophoresis (DEP) based on microfluidic chips is an effective method to isolate and separate the nanoparticles. However, the electrodes of the DEP chips are electrolyzed by the electrical signals applied to the nanoparticles. Thus, the isolation/separation efficiency of the nanoparticles is reduced considerably. Through this study, we developed a microfluidic DEP chip for reliable isolation/separation of nanoparticles and developed a passivation technique for the protection of the DEP chip electrodes. The electrode passivation process was designed using a hydrogel and the stability of the hydrogel passivation layer was verified. The fabricated DEP chip and the proposed passivation technique were used for the collection and dispersion of the fluorescent polystyrene nanoparticles. The proposed chip and the technique for isolation and separation of nanoparticles can be leveraged in various bioelectronic applications.

        융합교육의 단계별 로드맵을 기반으로 한 융복합 인재양성 방안 연구

        In this study, convergent competencies were seen as key drivers in enhancing global competitiveness and preoccupying market leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In order to foster the convergently talented who are needed in the current situation, it is urgent to foster creative talent. We tried to identify what are the profile of convergence talents and the prerequisites for fostering talented people and draw up a step-by-step roadmap for convergence education. First of all, we looked into the educational system and policy support for fostering overseas convergence talents, and based on this, we wanted to draw up a roadmap for convergence education suitable for the actual conditions of universities in Korea. In order to foster convergent talent with creativity and problem-solving skills as core competencies, experimental and progressive education methods based on communication and cooperation skills as well as scientific literacy are necessary, and this requires close and organic cooperation and cooperative relations between fields.

        인문사회기반 융합연구 의제 도출 연구

        본 연구에서는 인문사회기반 융합연구의 관점에서 미래유망기술을 분석하여 메가트렌드, 트렌드, 이슈로 정리하여 미래 환경에 대한 예측과 인간의 삶과 밀접하게 관련이 있을 것으로 예상되는 기술에 대한 탐색을 수행하고 궁극적으로 이를 통해 다양한 사회문제를 해결할 수 있는 융합연구 의제를 예측하고자 하였다. 우선 다양한 미래 유망기술에 대해 언급한 문헌을 조사하고 이를 분석하여 핵심 키워드를 분석하였고 가장 빈번하게 사용되는 핵심키워드를 정리하여 트렌드를 유추하였다. 이어서 유추된 트렌드를 계층화하여 정리하고 핵심트렌드와 파생트렌드로 분류하여 이를 바탕으로 융합연구 의제(어젠다)를 도출하였다. 이렇게 도출된 해당 의제의 필요성, 혁신성, 융합성, 실현가능성, 미래지향성, 수용가능성을 설문조사를 통하여 조사하였다. 분석결과 융합연구를 수행하는 연구자들은 가까운 미래에 실현가능한 기술로 일상생활과 밀접한 사회문제를 다루는 의제들에 높은 관심을 보이는 것으로 나타났고 반면 먼 미래에 실현가능한 기술이나 테러 혹은 국제적 분쟁과 같은 의제에 대해서는 다소 낮은 관심을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. In this study, we analyzed future emerging technologies from the perspective of convergence research and arranged them into mega-trends, trends, and issues, to carry out predictions of the future environment and search for technologies that are expected to be closely related to human life, and ultimately to achieve convergence research agenda that can predict various social problems. First, we investigated and analyzed the literature mentioned about various promising technologies and analyzed them to analyze key words and summarize the most frequently used core key words to infer trends. Then, an agenda was drawn that emphasized connectivity with the humanities-based convergence research by stratifying and organizing the inferred trends and classifying them as core and derived trends. The necessity, innovation, convergence, feasibility, future-oriented, and acceptability of these derived agendas were investigated through a survey. The analysis showed that researchers conducting convergence research showed a high interest in agenda items that deal closely with daily life with feasible technologies in the near future, while they showed a rather low interest in issues such as technology that can be realized in the distant future, terrorism or international conflicts.

        융합연구의 활성화를 위한 연구 성과와 정책 결정의 영향 관계에 관한 연구

        본 연구에서는 연구의 성과와 정책 결정 사이에 개입되는 영향과 사례들에 대해 살펴보았다. 복잡한 사회적 문제 해결에 있어 융합연구에 대한 기대와 더불어 융합연구가 직면한 현재의 이슈에 대해 살펴보았고 정책적, 재정적 지원 측면에서 과소평가되고 다소 부족하게 지원된다는 측면에서 이러한 영향관계에 대한 탐구를 통해 학제 간 융합연구가 정책적인 영향력을 행사하고 결과적으로 융합연구의 활성화를 이루는 방안에 대해 탐구하였다. 첫째로 융합연구의 정의에 대해 살펴보고, 둘째로 정책의 정의와 정책이 어떻게 만들어지는지를 살펴보았다. 셋째로 연구(지식)와 정책 관계를 4가지 유형으로 분류하여 연구결과가 과학적 증거로서 정책에 어떻게 영향을 미칠 수 있는지, 융합 연구에 의한 기술적 변화가 어떻게 정책으로 형성될 수 있는지를 탐구하고, 그 관계에 긍정적인 영향을 미치기 위해 어떤 난제를 해결해야 하는지에 대한 통찰력을 제공하기 위해 다양한 사례를 모색하였다. The purpose of this study was to find ways to impact policies in order to invigorate convergence research as a whole (including science or engineering-based and its humanities-based counterpart), so it can be recognized as the science of its own form. Firstly we looked at the definition of convergence research. Secondly, we looked at the definition of policy and how policies are produced. Lastly, we explored the relationship between convergence research and policy decision making. The current issues faced by the convergence research were the fact that it was largely under-appreciated and inadequately supported both in terms of policy and financial support. In this study, we explore the relationship between research and policy based on a research utilization model, which can be categorized the research and policy relationship into four types. Then we sought for various cases to explore how research can affect policies as scientific evidence; how the technological changes caused by convergence research can be shaped into policies; and then provide insights for what challenges needed to be addressed in order to have a positive impact on the relationship.

        융합연구의 활성화를 위한 융합연구 진흥법의 필요성과 방향에 관한 연구

        본 연구에서는 국내에 현존하는 다양한 진흥법제에 대해 살펴보고 현재 융합연구가 직면한 이슈들을 해결하고 융합연구의 활성화를 위해서 필요한 관련 법 제정 및 지원 방안에 대해 살펴보았다. 우선 교육, 학술, 연구, 기술개발과 관련한 293개 진흥법들을 조사하여 각 진흥법의 추진 배경과 법률상의 공통점을 2000년도 전·후로 정리하였다. 이들 진흥법제들의 구조를 분석한 내용을 바탕으로 향후 융합연구진흥법이 추진된다고 하면, 융합연구의 특성상 기존 법제의 개정을 통한 지원이 아닌 신규진흥법의 제정을 통해 정책지원이 이루어져야 하며 그 내용은 융합연구의 활성화를 위한 재정지원과 지원체제정비, 융합인재를 양성하기 위한 교육정책 개발 및 교과과정 개편, 대형과제개발과 국제협력을 목적으로 하는 융합연구의 브랜드 사업화로 추진되는 것이 타당한 것으로 보인다. In this study, we analyzed the various existing promotion acts in Korea and the relevant legislation and support measures needed to address the issues facing convergence research today and promote convergence research. First, 293 promotion acts related to education, academics, research, and technology development were investigated, and the background and legal commonalities of each promotion act were summarized before and after 2000. From the analysis of the structure of these promotion acts, we found that, if future convergence research promotion laws are to be implemented, policy support should be provided through the enactment of the New Promotion Act, and not through the revision of existing laws. Moreover, the contents of the Act should be the reform of education policies and curricula to nurture convergence research and the development of large-scale projects and international cooperation.
