Scientific evidence on all aspects of smoking amongst youth is very important for designing appropriate interventions to reduce smoking among this vulnerable population. This paper describes current access to anti-smoking information among school children aged 13 to 15 years in Vietnam in 2014 and examines its potential impact on preventing smoking initiation. The data used in this paper were obtained from the 2014 Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Vietnam. Students were asked questions about their level of awareness of anti-smoking information from various sources in the past 30 days and about lessons in school regarding the dangers of tobacco use during the last 12 months. Those who have never smoked were asked "whether or not they thought about avoiding cigarettes because of health warnings on cigarette packages" and answers were analyzed in combination with data on access to anti-smoking information from other sources. The prevalence of exposure to antismoking campaigns was high among school children in Viet Nam: 55.3% of current smokers reported thoughts of smoking cessation because of health warnings on cigarette packages; 60.5% of never smokers avoided initiating smoking because of the same health warnings. The potential impact of graphic health warnings to prevent school-aged children from smoking initiation would be stronger if there was concurrent access to anti-smoking programs on the dangers of tobacco use in schools. However, school education for tobacco prevention and control has not been as strong as expected. A more comprehensive school curriculum on tobacco prevention and control is recommended to reinforce antismoking messages among school children.
Optimization of Rice (Oryza Sativa) Malting Process by Second-Order Experimental Design
Nguyen, Thach Minh,Nguyen, Xich Lien,Hoang, Kim Anh,Lee, Soo The Korean Society of Applied Science and Technolo 2008 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.25 No.3
The malting process of rice (OM4080 variety from Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute) was studied under pilot condition plan by means of the second-order experimental design. Processing parameters, such as the steeping time (0-60 hrs), steeping temperature ($5-45^{\circ}C$), germination time (0-8 days), germination temperature ($5-45^{\circ}C$) and gibberellin concentration (0-2 mg/kg) were investigated. As a result, all germination conditions, especially germination time, germination temperature, and gibberellin concentration had a significant effect on the malting loss, amylase activity and starch content. The protein content was not clearly affected by any conditions. The optimum conditions for malting process (with highest amylase activity) were as follows: 30 hrs of steeping time, $30-35^{\circ}C$ of steeping temperature, 5-5.5 days of germination time, $25^{\circ}C$ of germination temperature, and 1.5 mg/kg of giberrellin concentration.

Eight compounds were isolated from methanol extract of Plantago major L. leaves and investigated for their ability to inhibit angiotensin I-converting enzyme activity. Among them, compound 1 showed the most potent inhibition with rate of 28.06 ± 0.21% at a concentration of 100 μM. Compounds 2 and 8 exhibited weak activities. These results suggest that compound 1 might contribute to the ability of P. major to inhibit the activity of angiotensin I- converting enzyme.

Wearable strain sensor based on plasma-induced wrinkles on elastomer
Nguyen Hoang Minh,Kwanoh Kim,Do Hyun Kang,Yeong-Eun Yoo,Jae Sung Yoon 한국진공학회 2021 한국진공학회 학술발표회초록집 Vol.2021 No.2
There is an increasing demand for wearable and flexible devices since they are facile to be integrated in human body or clothes. Especially, wearable strains sensors are needed for monitoring human motion in real time. In this research, we report a simple process to fabricate colorimetric strain sensor that applied force results in human-eyes detectable color change. A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp is pre-stretched then treated in plasma chamber to form periodic winkles on the stamp surface. Due to light diffraction on the winkles, PDMS stamps appear in a color at a fixed angle of view. The stamps shift from blue to red and become transparent when PDMS stamps are stretched. Moreover, the working range of sensor can be tuned by adjusting pre-stretched force. In addition, the effect of plasma treatment conditions on the profile of wrinkle patterns will be investigated. This real-time visual display of body motion strain sensors are highly potential for use in robots, and point of care applications.
Indirect MPC method with improved output voltage and current waveforms for MMCs
Minh-Hoang Nguyen,Sangshin Kwak,Seungdeog Choi 전력전자학회 2022 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.22 No.4
This paper focuses on a nonrequired weighting factor tuning task model predictive control (MPC) approach with improved steady-state performance, resulting in better harmonic distortion in output current and voltage for a single-phase modular multilevel converter (MMC) system. For the proposed indirect MPC technique, two independent control stages are designed to achieve various control objectives at once without the use of weighting factors. The first stage includes a single cost function, only related to the output current to generate a temporary quantity of inserted submodules (SMs). A circulating current regulation using predicted value is proposed to obtain the total quantity of inserted SMs regarding the circulating current suppression. The final quantity of inserted SMs is adjusted and generated from the temporary quantity to be used in a voltage sorting algorithm. Without the use of weighting factors, the control objectives in the MMC system can be achieved using the proposed indirect MPC. The output current and voltage have a considerable improvement over that of the conventional indirect MPC. The simulation and experimental outcomes validate that the proposed approach is correct and feasible.
Influence of the Kilning Conditions on Enzymatic Activity of Rice (Oryza sativa) Malt
Nguyen, Thach Minh,Nguyen, Xich Lien,Hoang, Kim Anh,Lee, Soo The Korean Society of Applied Science and Technolo 2009 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.26 No.1
This study investigated the effect of kilning condfition on the diastatic power and activities of protease, $\alpha$-amylase, and $\beta$-amylase in rice malt. Common rice (Oryza sativa) was steeped at $30^{\circ}C$ for 50 h, germinated at $30^{\circ}C$ for 7 days, and kilned at $50^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. The moisture content and enzymatic activities were determined under various kilning times. As a result, the moisture content was reduced from 42.1 % to 3.9% after 24 h of kilning at $50^{\circ}C$. The protease activity of rice malt showed lower value than that of barley malt. All enzymatic activities were decreased during the kilning stage. Results indicated that after prolonged kilning at $50^{\circ}C$, the inactivation of hydrolytic enzymes might be occurred. Even though the amylolytic activity of malted rice showed low value, the rice malt shows the potential characteristics as ingredient for the brewing and cereal industries.

Pd-incorporated Zr-based metal–organic framework containing sulfone groups, named Pd(II)BUT-11, wassuccessfully prepared by dispersing the sulfone-functionalized MOF in Pd(OAc)2 solution. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, N2 isotherm sorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetricanalysis were applied to determine the features of the Pd-incorporated MOF. In the catalyticstudies, Pd(II)@BUT-11 was shown to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for synthesizing various stilbenederivatives via the cross-coupling Heck reaction with DABCO-derived deep eutectic solvent (DES) asa green solvent. Notably, the catalyst and the solvent could be recovered and reused, with their activityand structure remaining stable throughout several trials. The method provides an alternative solution tothe conventional catalysts and solvents, resulting in a green and efficient stilbene synthesis process. Furthermore, the stilbenes were separated by extraction with ethyl acetate due to the low solubility ofDES with this solvent.
