Synthesis of Modified Silane Acrylic Resins and Their Physical Properties as Weather-Resistant Coatings

        Yoo, Gyu-Yeol,Kim, Ji-Hyun,Park, Hong-Soo,Kim, Young-Geun,Kim, Seong-Kil The Korean Society of Applied Science and Technolo 2008 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.25 No.1

To prepare weather-resistant modified silane acrylic resin coatings for an architectural purpose, tetrapolymers were synthesized by radical polymerization. 3-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS) as a silicone monomer and n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and n-butyl methacrylate as acrylic monomers were used. The composition of monomers was adjusted to fix the glass transition temperature of acrylic polymer for $20^{\circ}C$. The composition of MPTS in the synthesized polymer were varied from 10 wt% to 30 wt%. On the basis of synthesized resin amber paints were prepared and their physical properties and effects on weatherability were examined. The presence of MPTS in modified silane acrylic resins generally resulted in low molecular weight and broad molecular weight distribution, and also lowered the viscosity of the copolymers. The coated films prepared from these resins showed good and balanced properties in general. Adhesion to the substrate was outstanding in particular. Weatherability tests were carried out in three different types such as outdoor exposure, QUV, and SWO. The test results showed that the modified silane acrylic resins containing 30 wt% of MPTS had superior weathering properties.

Characterization of Silica/EVOH Hybrid Coating Materials Prepared by Sol-Gel Method

Kim, Seong-Woo The Korean Society of Applied Science and Technolo 2009 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.26 No.3

In this study, the silica-based hybrid material with high barrier property was prepared by incorporating ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) copolymer, which has been utilized as packaging materials due to its superior gas permeation resistance, during sol-gel process. In preparation of this EVOH/$SiO_2$ hybrid coating materials, the (3-glycidoxy-propyl)-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) as a silane coupling agent was employed to promote interfacial adhesion between organic and inorganic phases. As confirmed from FT-IR analysis, the physical interaction between two phases was improved due to the increased hydrogen bonding, resulting in homogeneous microstructure with dispersion of nano-sized silica particles. However, depending on the range of content of added silane coupling agent (GPTMS), micro-phase separated microstructure in the hybrid could be observed due to insufficient interfacial attraction or possibility of polymerization reaction of epoxide ring in GPTMS. The oxygen barrier property of the mono-layer coated BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film was examined for the hybrids containing various GPTMS contents. Consequently, it is revealed that GPTMS should be used in an optimum level of content to produce the high barrier EVOH/$SiO_2$ hybrid material with an improved optical transparency and homogeneous phase morphology.

Synthesis and Characterization of Aromatic Polyamideamide-imide and Polyamide-imide copolymers

Kim, Sang-Hern The Korean Society of Applied Science and Technolo 2008 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.25 No.2

The polyamide-amide-imide (PAAI) was synthesized by reacting 4,4'-diaminobenzanilide (DBA) with trimellitic anhydride chloride using a two-stage heating. The precursor of polyamide-acids was formed at first stage and followed by the formation of imide of PAAI. Two polyamide-imides (PAIs) were prepared from benzidine (BZ) or 4,4'-diaminodiphenylether (DPE) with trimellitic anhydride chloride. These three polymers had glass transition temperature in the temperature range of $240-250^{\circ}C$. X-ray data were obtained on thin film specimens cured at $250^{\circ}C$. There was a minimal kind of short-range order consisting of the most probable distances between neighboring chains. The average segmental spacing of short-range order decreased in the order of polymers obtained from 4,4'-diaminobenzanilide (DBA), polyamide-imide, and 4,4'-diaminodiphenylether (DPE). The imidization of three polyamide-imides was confirmed by $^{15}N$ MAS NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. $^{15}N$ NMR spectrum of cured polyamide-imide showed imide $^{15}N$ peak, thereby providing an evidence for the imidization of three polyamide-imides.

        Seo, Ji-Hoon,Park, Jung-Sun,Koo, Ja-Ryong,Seo, Bo-Min,Lee, Kum-Hee,Yoon, Seung-Soo,Kim, Young-Kwan The Korean Society of Applied Science and Technolo 2009 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.26 No.3

The authors have demonstrated white oraganic light-emitting diodes (WOLED) using 1,4-bis[2-(4'-diphenylaminobiphenyl-4-yl)vinyl]benzene as fluorescent blue emitter and iridium(III) bis(5-acetyl-2-phenylpyridinato-N,C2') acetylacetonate as phosphorescent red emitter. The optimized WOLED using red host material as bis(2-methyl-8-quinolinato) -4-phenylphenolate exhibited proper color stability in comparison with the control device using 4,4'-N,N'-dicarbazole-biphenyl as red host. The white device showed a maximum luminance of 21100 $cd/m^2$ at 14 V, luminous efficiency of 9.7 cd/A at 20 $mA/cm^2$, and Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage ($CIE_{x,y}$)coordinates of (0.32, 0.34) at 1000 $cd/m^2$. The devices also exhibited the color shift with ${\Delta}CIE_{x,y}$ coordinates of ${\pm}$ (0.01,0.01) from 100 to 20000 $cd/m^2$.

Electromyographic comparison of modified push-up exercise: focused on various arm position

Kim, You-Sin,Yang, Jae-Young,Lee, Nam-Ju The Korean Society of Applied Science and Technolo 2018 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.35 No.1

This study was to investigate the difference of muscle activities in trunk, upper arm, and shoulder during push-up exercise based on 3 types of different arm position(posterior position, PP; normal position, NP; and anterior position, AP) and to provide effective push-up arm position for each muscle development. Fifteen healthy males(age, $21.5{\pm}0.5years$; height, $172.7{\pm}1.0cm$; body mass, $70.5{\pm}1.3kg$; shoulder width, $42.3{\pm}0.6cm$; and BMI, $23.6{\pm}0.5kg/m^2$) participated in this study. PP, NP, and AP of the arm were used to conduct push-up exercise and 8 muscles(deltoideus p. acromialis: DA; pectoralis minor: PMI; pectoralis major: PMA; serratus anterior: SA; biceps brachii: BB; triceps brachii: TB; latissimus dorsi: LD; and infraspinatus: IS) of right side were selected to measure muscle activities. Total 9 counts of push-up exercise were conducted and EMG data signals of 5-time(from $3^{th}$ to $7^{th}$) push-up movement were used for measuring muscle activities. PP push-up exercise showed that there was a significantly higher muscle activity of DA, PMI, PMA, SA, BB, LD, and IS(p<.05) and AP push-up exercise showed a significantly higher TB activity(p<.05). It would be suggested that different arm position evokes various muscle activities when conducting push-up exercise. PP would be the best push-up arm position for inducing various trunk, upper arm, and shoulder muscle activities compared to NP and AP.
