        Enhanced oxygen‐barrier and water‐resistance properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) blended with poly(acrylic acid) for packaging applications

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>To enhance the oxygen‐barrier and water‐resistance properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and expand its food packaging applicability, five crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(acrylic acid) (PVA/PAA) blend films were prepared via esterification reactions between hydroxyl groups in PVA and carboxylic acid groups in PAA. The physical characteristics of the blends, including the thermal, barrier, mechanical and optical properties, were investigated as a function of PAA ratio. With increasing PAA content, the crosslinking density was significantly increased, resulting in changes in the chemical structure, morphology and crystallinity of the films. The oxygen transmission rate of pure PVA decreased from 5.91 to 1.59 cc m<SUP>−1</SUP> day<SUP>−1</SUP> with increasing PAA ratio. The water resistance, too, increased remarkably. All the blend films showed good optical transparency. The physical properties of the blend films were strongly correlated with the chemical structure and morphology changes, which varied with the PAA content. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry</P>

        해방기 아메리카니즘의 전면화와 여성의 주체화 방식 : 김말봉의 『화려한 지옥』과 박계주의 『진리의 밤』을 중심으로

        해방기는 아메리카니즘의 영향력이 정치ㆍ경제ㆍ사회ㆍ문화 전반에 걸쳐 제도화된 시기다. 이는 ‘아메리카니즘의 전면화’로 규정할 수 있다. 그러나 아메리카니즘이 해방기 남한사회에 지대한 영향력을 끼쳤다고 하더라도 발신과 수신은 항상 쌍방향적이다. 요컨대 남조선의 새로운 국가와 주체의 출현은 아메리카니즘의 수용과 대항, 그리고 모순 속에서 형성된 것이다. 이러한 양상을 단적으로 확인할 수 있는 것이 바로 당대 공창제 폐지를 둘러싼 담론이다. 여성운동가들은 문명국가와 민주주의 국가로 상징되는 아메리카가 공창제를 즉각적으로 폐지해 줄 것을 기대했다. 그러나 미군정은 공창제폐지에 적극적이지 않았고 공창제폐지가 시행된 후까지 끊임없는 갈등을 양산했다. 공창제폐지를 둘러싼 갈등과 논란은 당시『부인신보』와 『경향신문』에 연재된 「카인의 시장」(화려한지옥)과 「진리의 밤」을 통해서도 확인할 수 있다. 두 작품에서 공창제폐지는 조선을 해방을 의미하는 상징적인 사건으로 그려지고 있다. 두 작품은 아메리카의 물질적 매혹을 거부하고 있다는 것과 방식의 차이가 있지만 결과적으로 순결성을 강조하는 기독교주의를 신생조선의 정체성으로 재구성한다. 다만 『화려한 지옥』이 ‘여성들’의 범주를 구성하기 위해 여성의 순결주의를 내세우고 있다면, 『진리의 밤』 은 남성(적)주체의 안정된 상징체계를 거부하고 남성의 지위와 권위를 위협하는 ‘여성’ 개인으로서의 존재성을 드러내고 있다는 데 차이가 있다. As women in liberation period experience change of legalㆍculturalㆍeconomic status, they emerge as a being that intensively shows the spirit of new era. The best achievement of feminine movement in liberation period can be abrogation of factory system. Abrogation of factory system in liberation period presents emancipation from colony, and at the same time it requires attention in a sense that it sounds possibility of the subject of women in new Joseon. Both Splendid hell(화려한 지옥) and The Night of Truth(진리의 밤) handles the issue of abrogation of factory system in liberation period. These two have difference in the fact that rejects material attraction of America in expansion of America, and their contents and method, however, these two have common ground in a sense that they eventually choose Christianity. However, Splendid hell(화려한 지옥) and The Night of Truth(진리의 밤) show difference in aspect that materializes independence of women, when the former imposes chastity of women to set the range of ‘women’, the latter shows women as incomplete and unstable individuals with random method. In other words, it could say when Splendid hell eventually realize independence of ‘women’ in liberation period in a way to reproduce gender binary, The Night of Truth materialize independence of ‘woman’ in a way to show incompleteness of gender hierarchy.

        해방기 신문연재 장편소설 연구

        The purpose of this study is to organize the list of novels serialized in the liberation period and to reveal the content characteristics. The list of novels serialized in newspapers from August 1945 to June 1950 is about 40 in total. Numerous novels have been published despite political turmoil. Many unfinished novels were published during this period. Despite their unfinished novel, these novels presented a perspective for prediction of the liberation event through the popular media of newspapers. Through this, the direction of the national community after liberation was suggested.

        최인훈 소설에 나타난 W시에서의 죽음과 고독의 의미

        이 글은 최인훈 소설에 나타난 W시에서의 죽음과 고독의 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 최인훈의 소설에서 유년시절의 W시에서의 경험과 죽음, 그리고 고독은 반복되는 모티프다. 「우상의 집」,『광장』,『회색인』등에서 반복적으로 재현된 W시에서 경험한 죽음에는 사랑의 감정이 동반된다. 죽음의 그림자가 드리운 사랑은 자신의 한계를 드러내는 주체의 무화이며 공포로서 다가온다. 그러나 자기존재의 무화로서의 사랑은 타자의 자리를 받아들이는 공동체의 장을 형성한다는 점에서 유의미하다. 고독의 의미도 이와 유사하다.『회색인』과『화두』에서 고독의 의미는 독서를 매개로 이뤄지고 있다는 것에 주목을 요한다. 여기서 고독은 자기가 아닌 것을 통해 타자와 관계를 맺을 수 있는 공동체를 향한 몸짓으로 해석된다. 이러한 공동체의 공간은 목적과 정박을 허락하지 않으며 오직 끊임없는 사유의 움직임 속에서만 드러난다. This article examines the meaning of death and loneliness in W City in Choi Inhun’s novel. In Choi Inhun’s novel, the experience, death, and solitude of childhood W city are repeated motifs. The deaths experienced in W City, which is repeatedly reproduced in House of Idol, Square, A Gray Man, accompanies feeling of love. The love of the shadow of death is a figurative of the subject revealing its limits and comes as a fear. However, it is meaningful that love as the image of self - existence forms the field of community that accepts the position of the other. The significance of loneliness is similar. It is worth noting that the significance of loneliness in the A Gray Man and Hwadu is mediated through reading. Here solitude is interpreted as a gesture toward a community that can engage with the other through something that is not itself. The space of these communities does not allow for purpose and anchoring, but only in the movement of constant thinking.

        The Clinical Effects of Dendropanax Morbifera on Postmenopausal Symptoms: Review Article

        Postmenopausal women aged 50s generally experience gradual changes in body such as decline in antioxidant and estrogen levels as the body ages. To overcome these aging-associated changes, the needs for health functional foods are increasing. Dendropanax morbifera (DM) have antioxidant effects, anti-inflammatory against cancer cells, antidiabetic, and antiatherogenic effect which are associated with postmenopausal symptoms. We analyzed clinical effects of DM on aging-related symptoms by reporting their antioxidant, anticancer and inflammatory activity, etc. and their bioactivity. Data sources EMBASE, SCOPUS, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases were searched up to August 2016 for studies investigating medicinal plants in prevention and treatment of diabetes. The search terms were “Dendropanax morbifera”. The reference lists of articles were also reviewed for additional relevant studies. Extracts of DM have various efficacy such as antioxidant, anti-cancer, antiinflammatory activity and anti-thrombotic effect. (J Menopausal Med 2017;23:146-155)

        Role Identification of Passiflora Incarnata Linnaeus: A Mini Review

        Some species of traditional herbal medicine has a history of use, most traditional natural herbs have been used for various diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Among them, Passiflora incarnata L. is a traditional natural medicine, flowers as well as berries, roots, and leaves have been used as a medicine. It has been used as a natural medicine for the treatment of insomnia and anxiety for a longtime in Europe, and it has been used primarily for sedation tea in North America. Moreover, Passiflora incarnata L. is widely used anti-asthmatic, analgesic and sedation in Brazil. In other words, Passiflora incarnata L. has been used to treat a sedative, dysmenorrhea, insomnia, cancer, etc. in many countries. Present review of the plants showed a wide range of pharmacological activity in anxiolytic relax the clinical disease, such as anti-inflammatory, anxiety and antioxidant. In addition, Passiflora incarnata L. affects menopause symptoms such as vasomotor symptoms, insomnia, and depression. This review aims to provide the latest information on specific functional components of Passiflora incarnata L. especially the results of clinical trials will provide new insights into opportunities for the future development of natural medicines and doors will be used for purposes of analysis.       • Prognostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in patients with gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma and mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma

        <P>Gastric neuroendocrine carcinomas (NEC) and mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma (MANEC) are very rare, aggressive tumors of the stomach. We aimed to examine predictive role of pretreatment F-18-FDG PET/CT-assessed metabolic parameter of primary tumors and metastases in patients with gastric NEC and MANEC. We conducted a review of the 27 patients with histopathologically confirmed NECs (n = 10) and MANEC (n = 17) of the stomach at our institution between January 2005 and December 2012. All patients underwent F-18-FDG-PET examination at diagnosis. Metabolic parameters [SUVmax, SUVmean, metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG)] of the primary tumor and metastases on baseline PET/CT were analyzed. The median follow-up duration was 39.4 months (95 % CI 20.0-58.1 months) and the median overall survival (OS) was 25.7 months (95 % CI 14.1-37.2 months). All gastric lesions were well visualized (average SUVmax = 12.0, range 3.0-41.8). When subjects were divided into two groups by ROC cut-off value of 210.9 and 612, patients with high TLG in primary lesion and metastases showed poorer prognosis compared to low TLG patients (P = 0.09, P = 0.002, respectively). In the sub-analysis of patients with metastasis (n = 12), patients with high TLG in whole body tumor showed significantly shorter OS compared to those with low TLG (31.7 +/- A 11.4 vs. 7.2 +/- A 2.1 months, P = 0.006). F-18-FDG PET/CT is useful in evaluating prognosis of advanced gastric cancer with neuroendocrine carcinoma components. Baseline MTV of primary gastric cancer with metastatic disease, and MTV, TLG of metastases may be prognostic markers in patients with gastric NEC and MANEC.</P>

        일본 정지궤도 기상위성 Himawari-8을 이용한 에어로졸 광학정보 산출 및 검증

        자외선, 가시광, 적외선 파장대역의 채널을 갖는 위성 관측에 기반한 다양한 에어로졸 정보산출 알고리즘에 대해 많은 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 최근 발사된 일본 기상위성 히마와리 8의 가시광-적외선 채널정보를 이용하여, 어두운 지표 위에서 에어로졸 광학정보를 산출하였다. 가시영역을 이용한 에어로졸 광학정보 산출은 지표신호의 정확한 제거가 매우 중요한데, 이는 최소반사도법을 사용하여 산출하였다. 본 알고리즘은 어두운 지표에서 에어로졸 광학정보를 산출을 하기에 구름, 사막 등과 같은 밝은 지표 위에서는 산출하지 않는다. AHI는 가시광채널 외에도, 다양한 적외 채널을 갖고 있어 공간 비균질성, 밝기온도차이(Brightness Temperature Difference, BTD) 등을 이용하여 구름제거가 가능하다. 밝기온도(Brightness Temperature, BT)를 이용해 하층운, 상층운 제거에 유리한 채널을 사용하여 구름을 제거하게 된다. Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) 산출 결과로는 상관계수가 0.7, 기대오차(Expected Error, EE) 안에 있는 비율이 49%를 나타내고 있으며, 낮은 AOD에서도 정확한 산출이 이뤄지고 있음을 보이고 있다. 다만 베이징 허베이 지역에서는 에어로졸 광학두께를 과소모의하는 경향이 있는데, 이는 최소반사도법을 이용한 지표정보 산출이 실제 지표반사도보다 높게 지표면 정보를 추정하게 되기 때문으로 추정된다. Using various satellite measurements in UV, visible and IR, diverse algorithms to retrieve aerosol information have been developed and operated to date. Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) onboard the Himawari 8 weather satellite was launched in 2014 and has 16 channels from visible to Thermal InfRared (TIR) in high temporal and spatial resolution. Using AHI, it is very valuable to retrieve aerosol optical properties over dark surface to demonstrate its capability. To retrieve aerosol optical properties using visible and Near InfRared (NIR) region, surface signal is very important to be removed which can be estimated using minimum reflectivity method. The estimated surface reflectance is then used to retrieve the aerosol optical properties through the inversion process. In this study, we retrieve the aerosol optical properties over dark surface, but not over bright surface such as clouds, desert and so on. Therefore, the bright surface was detected and masked using various infrared channels of AHI and spatial heterogeneity, Brightness Temperature Difference (BTD), etc. The retrieval result shows the correlation coefficient of 0.7 against AERONET, and the within the Expected Error (EE) of 49%. It is accurately retrieved even for low Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD). However, AOD tends to be underestimated over the Beijing Hefei area, where the surface reflectance using the minimum reflectance method is overestimated than the actual surface reflectance.

        Lysophosphatidylserine Induces Calcium Signaling through Ki16425/VPC32183-Sensitive GPCR in Bone Marrow-Derived Mast Cells and in C6 Glioma and Colon Cancer Cells

        Lysophosphatidylserine (LPS) can be generated following phosphatidylserine-specific phospholipase A2 activation. The effects of LPS on cellular activities and the identities of its target molecules, however, have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we observed that LPS stimulated intracellular calcium increased in mouse bone marrow-derived mast cells (BMMC), and rat C6 glioma and human HCT116 colon cancer cells and compared the LPS-induced Ca2+ increases with the response by lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a structurally related bioactive lysolipid. In order to test involvement of signaling molecules in the LPS-induced Ca2+ signaling, we used pertussis toxin (PTX), U73122, and 2-APB, which are specific inhibitors for G proteins, phospholipase C (PLC), and IP3 receptors, respectively. The increases due to LPS and LPA were inhibited by PTX, U-73122 and 2-APB, suggesting that both lipids stimulate calcium signaling via G proteins (Gi/o types), PLC activation, and subsequent IP3 production, although the sensitivity to pharmacological inhibitors varied from complete inhibition to partial inhibition depending on cell type and lysolipid. Furthermore, we observed that Ki16425 completely inhibited an LPS-induced Ca2+ response in three cell types, but that the effect of VPC32183 varied from complete inhibition in BMMC and C6 glioma cells to partial inhibition in HCT116 cells. Therefore, we conclude that LPS increases [Ca2+]i through Ki16425/VPC32183-sensitive G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR), G protein, PLC, and IP3 in mouse BMMC, rat C6, and human HCT116 cells.
