        윤리적 리더 양성: 가톨릭대 사례를 중심으로

        비윤리적 행동은 심각한 조직위기를 야기할 수 있는 반면, 윤리적 경영규범의 확립은 조직의 경쟁우위를 제고할 수 있다. 그러므로 조직들은 유능할 뿐 아니라 윤리적이고 사회적 책임을 수행할 수 있는 인재들을 고용하고자 한다. 그 결과로 대학에서 윤리교육의 중요성이 날로 중시되고 있다. 윤리적 리더의 중요성은 이제 어떻게 대학에서 윤리적 리더를 양성할 것인가 하는 질문을 던지고 있다. 본 연구는 대학 환경 내에서 효과적인 윤리교육 프로그램을 개발하는데 있어서 Weber(2006)가 주장한 다섯 가지 요소 및 윤리교육 프로그램에 참여한 학생들에게 제공되는 효익이라는 요인들에 기반하여, 가톨릭대학이 어떻게 윤리적 리더를 양성하는가에 대해 알아본다. 이 연구는 윤리교육 프로그램을 개발하고 수행하고자 하는 다른 대학들에게 지침이 될 수 있을 것이다. While unethical behavior may create a serious organizational crisis, establishing ethical business practices can enhance the organization`s competitive advantage. Organizations, therefore, strive to recruit people who are not only competent but also ethical and socially responsible. As a result, the need for teaching ethics at universities has been given a top priority. The importance of rearing ethical leaders leads to questions about how to best accomplish this goal. Based on the six factors―Weber`s (2006) five elements and the benefits for the students who are enrolled in an ethics education program―to develop ethics programs effectively in an academic environment, we investigate how the Catholic University of Korea develops, introduces, and implements its university-wide ethics education program. This study may provide guidance to other universities seeking to develop and implement an ethics education program.

      • Chronological lifespan increases of yeast by leucine supplementation

        Supplementation or depletion of some amino acids, such as methionine, threonine, and branched-chain amino acids (BCAA), has been identified to modulate life span and health span of many species. BCAA (leucine, valine, and isoleucine) supplementation was shown to promote yeast chronological life span (CLS). Previously, we showed that two leucine biosynthesis genes, LEU2 and LEU4, are critical in determining yeast lifespan. In order to understand the mechanism by which yeast lifespan is regulated in the connection to leucine metabolism, we have examined the effect of leucine supplementation on yeast CLS and the underlying mechanisms. Verification of cellular levels of cytochrome C oxidase and vital dye exclusion assay suggest that leucine supplementation increases yeast lifespan by alleviation of cell death rate.

      • A SPITZER VIEW OF THE YOUNG OPEN CLUSTER NGC 2264

        <P>We have performed mid-IR photometry of the young open cluster NGC 2264 using the images obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera and Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer instruments and presented a normalized classification scheme of young stellar objects in various color-color diagrams to make full use of the information from multicolor photometry. These results are compared with the classification scheme based on the slope of the spectral energy distribution (SED). From the spatial distributions of Class I and II stars, we have identified two subclusterings of Class I objects in the CONE region of Sung et al. The disked stars in the other star-forming region S Mon are mostly Class II objects. These three regions show a distinct difference in the fractional distribution of SED slopes as well as the mean value of SED slopes. The fraction of stars with primordial disks is nearly flat between log m = 0.2 and –0.5 and that of transition disks is very high for solar mass stars. In addition, we have derived a somewhat higher value of the primordial disk fraction for NGC 2264 members located below the main pre-main-sequence locus (so-called BMS stars). This result supports the idea that BMS stars are young stars with nearly edge-on disks. We have also found that the fraction of primordial disks is very low near the most massive star S Mon and increases with distance from S Mon.</P>

        성인 중증 중독환자 예측을 위한 새로운 지표 개발: aBIG score for poisoning

        Purpose: The objective of this study was to develop a new scoring tool that is comprehensively applicable and predicts fatality within 24 h of intoxication. Methods: This was a cohort study conducted in two emergency medical centers from 2011 to 2012. We identified factors associated with severe/fatality. Through a discriminant analysis, we devised the aBIG (age, Base deficit, Infection, and Glasgow coma scale) score. To compare the ability of aBIG to predict intoxication severity with that of previous scoring systems such as APACHE II, MODS, SAPS IIe, and SOFA, we determined the receiver operating characteristic curves of each variable in predicting severe-to-fatal toxicity. Results: Compared with the mild/moderate toxicity group (n=211), the severe/fatal group (n=143) had higher incidences of metabolic acidosis, infection, serious mental change, QTc prolongation and hepato-renal failure. Age, base deficit, infection-WBC count, and Glasgow Coma Scale were independently associated with severe/fatal poisoning. These variables were combined into the poisoning “aBIG” score [0.28×Age group+0.38×WBC count/103+0.52×Base deficit+0.64×(15-GCS)], which were each calculated to have an area under the curve of 0.904 (95% confidence interval: 0.868-0.933). The aBIG poisoning score had an equivalent level of severity predictability as APACHE II and a superior than MODS, SOFA, and SAPS IIe. Conclusion: We developed a simplified scoring system using the four variables of age, base deficit, infected leukocytosis, and GCS. The poisoning aBIG score was a simple method that could be performed rapidly on admission to evaluate severity of illness and predict fatal severity in patients with acute intoxications.

      • Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Block Copolymer Electrolytes with Nanoscale Ion-Conducting Channels for Lithium Ion Batteries

        <P>A series of organic/inorganic hybrid block and random copolymers were prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization using poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) and 3-(3,5,7,9,11,13,15-heptaisobutylpentacyclo[9.5.1.1<SUP>3,9</SUP>.1<SUP>5,15</SUP>.1<SUP>7,13</SUP>]octasiloxane-1-yl)propyl methacrylate (MA-POSS) as monomers in order to study the effect of polymer morphology and POSS content on the properties of polymer electrolytes. Flexible and dimensionally stable free-standing films were made from the hybrid block and random copolymers mixed with lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) when the contents of MA-POSS unit were larger than 31 and 16 mol %, respectively. The ionic conductivity of the solid-state block copolymer (PBP) electrolyte was found to be 1 order of magnitude higher than that of the random copolymer (PRP) electrolyte when they had similar MA-POSS content, although their glass transition temperature values of their ion-conducting segments were quite close. Moreover, the ionic conductivity of the PBP electrolyte was not much different from that of the wax state poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (P(PEGMA)) electrolyte. For example, the ionic conductivity values for the PBP electrolyte containing 31 mol % of MA-POSS, the PRP electrolyte containing 29 mol % of MA-POSS, and P(PEGMA) electrolyte were 2.05 × 10<SUP>–5</SUP>, 3.00 × 10<SUP>–6</SUP>, and 4.23 × 10<SUP>–5</SUP> S cm<SUP>–1</SUP>, respectively, at 30 °C.       • 부분 파형 역산을 사용한 사우디 아라비아 S파 속도 및 이방성 연구

        서쪽으로는 홍해가 확장하고 동쪽에는 자그로스 조산대 활동의 영향을 받는 아라비아 반도는 지구조적으로 복잡한 구조를 가지고 있다. 정확한 지구조적 연구를 위해서는 고해상도 지진파 속도 및 이방성 모델이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 규모 5.5이상, 진앙거리 55도 이내의 지진 261개를 사용하여 총 10,105개의 파형 자료를 얻었으며 CRUST1.0 모델과 AK135모델을 통합한 새로운 3차원 참조 모델과 부분 파형 역산법을 사용하였다. 그 결과 연구 지역 아래 지각에서부터 상부맨틀 깊이에 이르는 고해상도 S파 속도 및 방사 이방성 모델을 획득했다. 속도 모델의 공간적인 해상도를 평가하기 위해 체커보드 테스트를 진행하였고 S파 속도 모델은 약 지하 200 km 부근까지, 방사 이방성 모델은 100 km 부근까지 좋은 해상도를 보인다. Afar지역에서 북쪽 방향 저속도이상이 우세하게 나타나며 깊이가 깊어질수록 Afar 지역과 홍해 지역의 저속도이상은 유지된다. 방사 이방성 모델에서는 대체적으로 양의 이방성이 우세하게 나타나지만 자그로스 벨트 부근 지하 약 20 km 에서 100 km 깊이까지 낮은 방사 이방성 값을 보여준다.

        간호사의 수면의 질, 주간졸음 및 간호업무 중 인지한 오류 경험과의 관련성

        Objectives: The objective of this study was to identify the influence of shift work on sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, and perceived errors during nursing work among hospital nurses. Methods: The study subjects were 209 hospital nurses working in two general hospitals in South Korea. The data were collected through self-administered questionnaires in May 2013. Sleep quality was measured using Korea Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-K), daytime sleepiness was measured using Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and perceived errors in past 6 months during nursing duty hours with the tool developed in this study. Results: The sleep quality was significantly worse among rotating shift nurses when compared to fixed day duty nurses. However, the odds ratio (OR) of 1.92 [95% confidence interval(CI): 0.58-6.37] adjusted for sociodemographic variables, health behaviors, and working environment in logistic regression was not significant. There was no significant difference in the daytime sleepiness between rotating shift nurses and fixed day duty nurses in both simple and multivariable analyses. There were significantly more perceived errors in rotating shift nurses than fixed day duty nurses. However, the OR of 1.26 (95% CI: 0.38-4.21) adjusted for sociodemographic variables, health behaviors, working environment, sleep quality, and daytime sleepiness in logistic regression was not significant. Depression (OR=3.31, 95% CI: 1.11-9.84) and daytime sleepiness(OR=1.18, 95% CI: 1.07-1.30) were significantly associated with perceived errors in logistic regression. Conclusion: This study suggested shift work among hospital nurses had no independent influence of sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, and perceived errors. However, daytime sleepiness had independent influence of perceived errors. More studies are warranted to achieve more reliable conclusion.

        Original Articles : Glaucoma Progression Detection by Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Measurement Using Scanning Laser Polarimetry: Event and Trend Analysis

        Purpose: To evaluate the use of scanning laser polarimetry (SLP, GDx VCC) to measure the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in order to evaluate the progression of glaucoma. Methods: Test-retest measurement variability was determined in 47 glaucomatous eyes. One eye each from 152 glaucomatous patients with at least 4 years of follow-up was enrolled. Visual field (VF) loss progression was determined by both event analysis (EA, Humphrey guided progression analysis) and trend analysis (TA, linear regression analysis of the visual field index). SLP progression was defined as a reduction of RNFL exceeding the predetermined repeatability coefficient in three consecutive exams, as compared to the baseline measure (EA). The slope of RNFL thickness change over time was determined by linear regression analysis (TA). Results: Twenty-two eyes (14.5%) progressed according to the VF EA, 16 (10.5%) by VF TA, 37 (24.3%) by SLP EA and 19 (12.5%) by SLP TA. Agreement between VF and SLP progression was poor in both EA and TA (VF EA vs. SLP EA, k = 0.110; VF TA vs. SLP TA, k = 0.129). The mean (±standard deviation) progression rate of RNFL thickness as measured by SLP TA did not significantly differ between VF EA progressors and nonprogressors (-0.224 ± 0.148 μm/yr vs. -0.218 ± 0.151 μm/yr, p = 0.874). SLP TA and EA showed similar levels of sensitivity when VF progression was considered as the reference standard. Conclusions: RNFL thickness as measurement by SLP was shown to be capable of detecting glaucoma progression. Both EA and TA of SLP showed poor agreement with VF outcomes in detecting glaucoma progression.

        Original Articles : Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Measurement Variability with Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

        Purpose: To evaluate the effect of the scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) guided re-test mode on short- and long-term measurement variability of peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness obtained by spectral domain-SLO optical coherence tomography (SD-SLO/OCT). Methods: Seventy five healthy eyes were scanned 3 times per day (intra-session variability) by both the SLO guided re-test mode and the independent mode of SD-SLO/OCT. Subjects were scanned 3 times by both modes at visits within a 2-week interval (inter-session variability). For testing longitudinal variability, 3 separate exams were performed over 6 months by both modes. The coefficient of variation (CV), reproducibility coefficient (RC) and intraclass correlation coefficient of RNFL thickness were compared between the two modes. Results: The intra-session RC and CV ranged from 5.4 to 12.9 microns and 1.76% to 5.72% when measured by independent mode and 5.4 to 12.5 microns and 1.75% to 5.58% by re-test mode, respectively. The inter-session RC and CV ranged from 5.8 to 13.3 microns and 1.89% to 5.78% by independent mode and 5.8 to 12.7 microns and 1.90% to 5.54% by re-test mode, respectively. Intra-session and inter-session variability measurements were not significantly different between the two modes. The longitudinal RC and CV ranged from 8.5 to 19.2 microns and 2.79% to 7.08% by independent mode and 7.5 to 14.4 microns and 2.33% to 6.22% by retest mode, respectively. Longitudinal measurement variability was significantly lower when measured by the re-test mode compared to the independent mode (average, p = 0.011). Conclusions: The SLO guided re-test mode for RNFL thickness measurement in SD-SLO/OCT employing a tracking system improved long-term reproducibility by reducing variability induced by inconsistent scan circle placement.

        Surface-enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance biosensing of avian influenza DNA hybridization using subwavelength metallic nanoarrays

        <P>We demonstrated enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensing based on subwavelength gold nanoarrays built on a thin gold film. Arrays of nanogratings (1D) and nanoholes (2D) with a period of 200 nm were fabricated by electron-beam lithography and used for the detection of avian influenza DNA hybridization. Experimental results showed that both nanoarrays provided significant sensitivity improvement and, especially, 1D nanogratings exhibited higher SPR signal amplification compared with 2D nanohole arrays. The sensitivity enhancement is associated with changes in surface-limited reaction area and strong interactions between bound molecules and localized plasmon fields. Our approach is expected to improve both the sensitivity and sensing resolution and can be applicable to label-free detection of DNA without amplification by polymerase chain reaction. </P>
