        Numerical Model about the Influence of Cyclic Load on the Hydraulic Conductivity of Soft Clay

        The hydraulic conductivity k is one of the most important engineering properties of soft clay, and it plays an important role during the whole life cycle of underwater tunnel. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically study the response of k to dynamic load. In this study, a series of seepage tests were conducted on remolded Hangzhou soft clay using dynamic triaxial seepage apparatus after cyclic loading. The results show that the hydraulic conductivitys of all samples decrease after cyclic loading, and the maximum drop of the hydraulic conductivity can reach 29.1%. Also, the hydraulic conductivity of soil samples is significantly affected by cyclic stress ratio (CSR). With the increase of CSR, the decrease range of hydraulic conductivity under cyclic loading is between 22.3% and 24.3%. The dynamic load reconstructed the microstructure of clay and made the number of large pores getting decreased and the small pores increased. This resulted in a decrease in the smaller hydraulic conductivity (k) of the specimens. Futhermore, based on the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) scanning on the microstructure of soil samples under cyclic loading and the microscopic pore channel theory, a prediction model for the k of soft clay is proposed. The validity of the model is verified based on test data. It is believed that the proposed model could provide some theoretical support for the design and long-term performance prediction in practical engineering issues.

        Effects of coated cysteamine hydrochloride on muscle fiber characteristics and amino acid composition of finishing pigs

        Objective: This experiment was designed to determine the effects of coated cysteamine hydrochloride (CC) on muscle fiber characteristics, amino acid composition and transporters gene expression in the longissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) of finishing pigs. Methods: Two hundred and sixteen Duroc/Landrace/Yorkshire cross-bred male finishing pigs were fed with a corn-soybean basal diet supplemented with 0, 70, and 140 mg/kg cysteamine. Each group contained eight replicates of nine pigs per replicate. After 29 days, one pig was randomly selected from each replicate and slaughtered. Blood and LDM samples were collected and analyzed. Results: The results showed that supplemental dietary CC increased (p<0.05) the muscle fiber density. And CC supplementation also up-regulated (p<0.05) the expression of myosin heavy chain 1 (MyHC1) and MyHC2x mRNA levels, and down-regulated (p<0.05) MyHC2b expression in the LDM. Additionally, supplemental dietary CC reduced (p<0.05) the concentration of total cholesterol in the plasma and enhanced (p<0.05) the concentrations of essential amino acid and total amino acid in the LDM. The relative expression levels of chloramphenicol acetyltransferase 2, b0,+ amino acid transporter, and y+-L-type amino acid transporter 1 were up-regulated (p<0.05) in the LDM when pigs were fed with the dietary CC of 70 mg/kg. Conclusion: Cysteamine supplementation could increase fiber density and distribution of fiber types. It also improved the deposition of protein in the LDM by up-regulated the expression of amino acid transporters.

      • Evaluation on the Criteria of Organisational Sustainability by Adopting ANP

        Human activities have been putting a great burden on the earth, leading to many serious problems, such as lack of resources, ecological degradation and air degradation. Although many countries have recognised this circumstance and have developed some sustainable development strategies, the earth still needs research on sustainability in different views and various industries. The nursing industry has grown with the ageing of the global population in recent years, and professional nursing institutions could relieve structural deterioration caused by the ageing population in family, social, economic and cultural. Hence, exploring the key criteria of organisational sustainability in the nursing industry is of the utmost priority. This paper puts forward an evaluation framework to identify the key criteria of organisational sustainability. After connections with nursing homes A and B in China, the author adopts literature research to confirm the criteria system which is based on triple bottom line, utilises analytical network process method to design the network hierarchy analysis model and importance comparison questionnaires to collect experts' first-hand data, and uses technical software - Super Decisions to integrate data and obtain final results. The results recommend three top-ranked criteria in the entire system, eco-recruitment, eco-procurement and corporate social responsibility are discussed with some professional suggestions in the end. The limitations are also extended in the last chapter to provide future research perspectives.

        Externalizing Behavior Problems Among Hui Ethnicity Left-Behind Children in Rural China: A Cross-Sectional Study

        Objective This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of externalizing behavior problems (EBPs) and its influencing factors among Hui left-behind children (LBC) in rural China.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among school students from the southern rural areas in Ningxia, China (2012–2013). The general self-made questionnaire, Egma Minnen av Bardndosna Uppforstran, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (for Children), Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale, and Achenbach’s Child Behavior Checklist (for parents) were used to investigate the related information. Binary logistic regressions were conducted.Results The prevalence of EBPs in boys Hui LBC was significantly higher than that of non-LBC (12.37% vs. 6.84%, χ<sup>2</sup>=4.09, and p=0.04). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that low self-awareness of behavior (odds ratio [OR]=29.78), introversion (OR=21.67) and intermediate personality (OR=15.83), poor academic performance (OR=11.65) and both parent migrating (OR=2.73) were the risk factors for the EBPs of Hui LBC, while middle and high father refusal and denial (OR=0.11, OR=0.09) were their protective factors.Conclusion Our findings suggest that both parent migrating is a potential risk factor for EBPs among Hui LBC. Hui boys LBC should be paid more attention when formulating relevant policies.

        Genome-wide identification of the valine-glutamine motif containing gene family and the role of VQ25-1 in pollen germination in Brassica oleracea

        Background The plant-specific valine-glutamine (VQ) motif containing proteins tightly regulate plant growth, development, and stress responses. However, the genome-wide identification and functional analysis of Brassica oleracea (B. oleracea) VQ genes have not been reported. Objective To identify the VQ gene family in B. oleracea and analyze the function of Bo25-1 in pollen germination. Methods The Hidden Markov Model (HMM) of VQ family was used to query the BoVQ genes in the B. oleracea genome. The BoVQ genes preferentially expressed in anthers were screened by qRT-PCR. Subcellular localization of VQ25-1 was observed in Nicotiana benthamiana (N. benthamiana) leaves. To analysis the role of BoVQ25-1 in pollen germination, the expression of BoVQ25-1 was suppressed using antisense-oligonucleotides (AS-ODN). Results A total of 64 BoVQ genes were identified in the B. oleracea genome. BoVQ25-1 was found to be preferentially expressed in the B. oleracea anthers. BoVQ25-1 was cloned from the anthers of the B. oleracea cultivar ‘Fast Cycle’. BoVQ25-1 is localized to the nucleus. The pollen germination rate significantly decreased after AS-ODN treatment. Conclusion Sixty-four BoVQ genes were identified in the B. oleracea genome, of which BoVQ25-1 plays an important role in pollen germination.

        Improved oral bioavailability of capsaicin via liposomal nanoformulation: preparation, in vitro drug release and pharmacokinetics in rats

        This study innovatively prepared an effectivecapsaicin-loaded liposome, a nanoformulation with fewerirritants, for oral administration. The in vitro and in vivoproperties of the liposomal encapsulation were investigatedand the potential possibility of oral administration evaluated. The liposomal agent composed of phospholipid, cholesterol,sodium cholate and isopropyl myristate was prepared usingfilm-dispersion method. A level A in vitro–in vivo correlation(IVIVC) was established for the first time, which demonstratedan excellent IVIVC of both formulated and freecapsaicin in oral administration. Physicochemical characterizationsincluding mean particle size, zeta (f) potentialand average encapsulation efficiency of capsaicin-loadedliposome were found to be 52.2 ± 1.3 nm, -41.5 ±2.71 mv and 81.9 ± 2.43 %, respectively. In vivo, liposomalencapsulation allowed a 3.34-fold increase in relativebioavailability compared to free capsaicin. The gastricmucosa irritation studies indicated that the liposomal systemwas a safe carrier for oral administration. These resultssupport the fact that capsaicin, an effective drug for thetreatment of neuropathic pain, could be encapsulated inliposome for improved oral bioavailability. The excellentIVIVC of capsaicin-loaded liposome could also be a promisingtool in liposomal formulation development with anadded advantage of reduced animal testing.

        Maritime Targets Tracking in Heavy-tailed Clutter With Unknown and Time-varying Density

        In order to solve the problem of maritime targets tracking in heavy-tailed sea clutter with unknown and time-varying clutter density, a multi-scan clutter sparsity estimator based amplitude-aided probability hypothesis density (MCSE-APHD) method is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the proposed method eliminates the targetoriginated measurements from multi-scan cumulative measurement set and estimates the spatial distribution density of clutter online. And the estimated clutter density parameter is fed to the tracker. Secondly, the amplitude-aided likelihood function as well as the estimated clutter parameter is established to update the Gaussian mixture posterior intensity of the state using the probability hypothesis density algorithm. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

        A Core-Shell Spherical Silica Molecularly Imprinted Polymer for Efficient Selective Recognition and Adsorption of Dichlorophen

        A core-shell surface-imprinted polymer was successfully synthesized on the surface of silica spheres by precipitation polymerization. The polymers were used to selectively identify dichlorophen in complex environmental system. The physical-chemical properties of the silica sphere molecularly imprinted polymers were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy scans characterization. The adsorption properties of core-shell polymers were examined by adsorption isotherms, kinetics and selectivity experiments. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm well fitted the adsorption experimental data, and an increase of temperature enhanced the adsorption capacity. The maximum binding capacity of imprinted polymers reached 72.46 mg g-1 at 318 K. Meanwhile, the adsorption data of binding experiments were well-fitting by the pseudo-second-order equation. Compared with nonimprinted polymer, the imprinted polymer not only has specific selectivity towards dichlorophen but also has higher adsorption performance. Moreover, via the regeneration experiments, it has been demonstrated that the MIPs have certain stability to the adsorption for the target, which provides a good reference for the adsorption of dichlorophen by the imprinted polymer in water.
