In this work, we have successfully developed a facile and effective electrochemical route for directly growing polyaniline (PANI) nanowires (NWs) on platinum interdigitated microelectrode. The asprepared NWs were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. They revealed that the PANI NWs were obtained with diameters ranging from 50 to 200 nm and length up to hundreds of micro meters, depending on growth time. The as-obtained PANI NWs on the electrode exhibited a porous nature and the conducting emeraldine type structure. The gas sensing properties of PNAI NWs were explored by monitoring NH3 in synthetic air in the concentration range of 25-500 ppm at room temperature. The results obtained demonstrated that PANI NWs have good potential as novel room temperature sensors for practical applications.

This study describes the preparation and characterization of nanocomposites obtained by melt-mixing of poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA), polylactic acid (PLA), and TiO₂ nanoparticles (TNPs) via three different methods of direct mixing, one-step, and two-step methods. Vinyltrimethoxysilane was used as a surface modifier for the TNPs. The one-step method showed the best suitability for the preparation of EVA/PLA/TiO₂ nanocomposites. The increase in torque and the adhesion of the TNPs with EVA/PLA matrix in these nanocomposites showed enhanced interfacial interactions between EVA, PLA chains, and TNPs. The tensile strength, Young’s modulus, dynamic storage modulus, and thermooxidative stability of the one-step prepared nanocomposites were higher than those of two other nanocomposites and that of the EVA/PLA blend, reaching maximum values at 2.0 wt% of TNPs.

Purpose Circulating tumor cell separation and analysis have played a critical role in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. In this work, we aim to design and investigate a novel biochip that integrates dielectrophoresis, microfl uidic technology to separate circulating tumor cells from blood cells. To create a dielectrophoresis-induced non-uniform electric fi eld, a facing-electrode design was proposed and utilized, in which a slanted electrode array and a simple rectangular ground electrode are placed parallel on the top and bottom parts of the microfl uidic channel, respectively. This design can reduce the particle position dependence in the microchannel and the complexity of the microfabrication process. Methods The separation process, effi ciency, and optimization of the proposed device were numerically investigated using the fi nite element method. Parametric research was conducted to comprehensively examine the impact of various operating and design factors on the cell movement and trajectories in the microfl uidic device. Results The results indicated the potential of the proposed biochip to ensure cancer cell separation from blood cells with high effi ciency, high purity in a label-free, non-invasive, easy integration, and low-cost manner. Under the optimal conditions, the separation effi ciency reached 92%, 88%, and 96% for human colon cancer cells (HT-29), red blood cells, and white blood cells, respectively. Conclusions In this study, a novel DEP-based microfl uidic chip was proposed to separate HT-29 tumor cells from blood cells and numerically investigated to verify the performance of the biochip design. Our fi ndings could provide a foundation for further theoretical and practical investigations. The proposed system can separate cancer cells from red blood cells and white blood cells as well as off ers numerous advantages, such as compact size, low voltage, high effi ciency, non-invasiveness, and label-free nature. The tumor cell enrichment platform has the potential for application in cancer detection, analysis, and assessment.

As part of our continued study on the chemical constituents of Willughbeia edulis stems, a new dimeric lignan named edulignan (1) was isolated from its EtOAc-soluble extract. Based on NMR spectroscopic interpretation, the planar structure of 1 has been suggested to have two 2-substituted 4-chromanone subunits with different stereochemical configurations. In addition, the MS/MS analysis of the products obtained by acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of 1 was supportive of its structure. Unfornatually, the new compound 1 did not show 𝛼-glucosidase inhibitory activity with an IC50 value > 250 𝜇M.
