Shin, Kuk-Hyun,Chi, Hyung-Joon,Lim, Soon-Sung,Cho, Seon-Haeng,Moon, Hyung-In,Yu, Jae-Hyeun The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy 1997 Natural Product Sciences Vol.3 No.2
Volatile essential oils obtained by steam distillation from 55 plant parts of 42 species of representative aromatic plants newly collected in Korean peninsula have been evaluated for antimicrobial activity against 5 microorganisms. The essential oils derived from 15 plant parts and 9 plant parts were found to exhibit very strong antimicrobial activities by more than 95% inhibition at 100 ${\mu}g/ml$ against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively. Essential oil components such as l-limonene, ${\beta}-myrcene$, linalool, ${\gamma}-terpinene$, ${\alpha},{\beta}-phellandrene$, 1,8-cineole, l-borneol and bornylacetate, as a whole, have primarily contributed to the manifestation of the antimicrobial activity.

Kim, Ju-Sun,Yean, Min-Hye,Lee, Eun-Ju,Kang, Sam-Sik The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy 2008 Natural Product Sciences Vol.14 No.1
From the 70% EtOH extract of the roots of Astragalus membranaceus (Leguminosae), fifteen saponins were isolated and identified as astragaloside I (1), isoastragaloside II (2), astragaloside II (3), agroastragaloside I (4), cyclogaleginoside B (5), cycloaraloside A (6), brachyoside B (7), agroastragaloside II (8), astragaloside III (9), astragaloside IV (10), astramembranoside A (11), astramembranoside B (12), cylocanthoside E (13), cyclounifolioside B (14) and azukisaponin V methyl ester (15) by spectroscopic methods. Ten compounds 1 - 3, 5 - 7, 9 - 11 and 14 have cycloastragenol as an aglycon, and four compounds 4, 8 , 12, and 13 have cyclocanthogenin as an aglycon. The hairy roots of A. membranaceus were shown to produce previously unreported cycloartane-type saponins such as agroastragalosides I (4) and II (8) and cycloastragenol $3-O-{\beta}-D-xyloside$ (5), together with the known saponins. This is the first report of these saponins (4, 5, and 8) from the intact plant. Although the occurrence of the oleanane-type triterpene saponin, azukisaponin V methyl ester (15), in Astragalus plants has been demonstrated by others, this is the first report of the azukisaponin V methyl ester (15) from the Astragalus plants.

Abdel-Kader, Maged S.,Al-Taweel, Areej M.,El-Deeb, Kadriya S. The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy 2008 Natural Product Sciences Vol.14 No.1
Bioactivity guided phytochemical study of the petroleum ether and butanol extracts of Clematis hirsuta resulted in the isolation of 12 compounds. Rat paw edema as a model of acute inflammation was used to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of the extracts and the chromatographic fractions. Five known sterols and triterpenes namely: ${\beta}-amyrin$ (1), lupeol (2), ${\beta}-sitosterol$ (3), oleanolic acid (4) and stigmasterol glycoside (5) were isolated from the petroleum ether extract. The n-butanol extract afforded two compounds reported for the first time from natural source: (S)-(+)-dihydro-5-(hydroxymethyl)-2(3H)-furanone (7) and (s)-(-)-5-hydroxymethyl-2(5H)-furanone (8). In addition, anemonin (6), dihydro-4-hydroxy-5-(hydroxymethyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2-deoxy-D-ribono-1,4-lactone) (9), biophenol (cimidahurin) (10), glucose (11) and sucrose (12) were also identified. The structures were determined from spectroscopic data including 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments.
Antithrombotic Compounds form the Leaves of Ligularia stenocephala M.
Yoon, Min-Ho,Cho, Chong-Woon,Lee, Jae-Won,Kim, Young-Shin,An, Gil-Hwan,Lim, Chi-Hwan The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy 2008 Natural Product Sciences Vol.14 No.1
The leaf extract of Ligularia stenocephala showed the highest anti-platelet aggregating activity in large numbers of edible and herbal plants. The active fraction fractionationed from L. stenocephala extract by using preparative HPLC inhibited the platelet aggregation up to above 80% and its blood coagulating time (PT and APTT) also showed similar effect to aspirin (0.2 ${\mu}g/mL$), known as an anti-thrombus compound. Two antithrombus active compounds were purified and identified as 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid and 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid, respectively, on the basis of NMR and FAB-MS spectroscopic data. Two active compounds has not only antiplatelet aggregating activity, but also has anticoagulating activity.
Flavonoids and Stilbenes as Repellents against the Blue Mussel, Mytilus edulis galloprovincialis
Singh, Inder Pal,Etoh, Hideo,Asai, Eiko,Kikuchi, Kojiro,Ina, Kazuo,Koyasu, Katsuya,Terada, Yukimasa The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy 1997 Natural Product Sciences Vol.3 No.1
We studied the attachment-repelling activity of flavonoids, stilbenes, and their glycosides against the blue mussel Mytilus edulis galloprouincialis. Molecular mechanics calculations have shown that the most stable conformations of potent repellents 29 and 32 were the same. On the basis of these results, structure-activity relationships of these compounds are discussed.
A New Dimeric Lignan from the Stems of Willughbeia edulis
Nguyen, Hai Xuan,Do, Truong Nhat Van,Le, Tho Huu,Dang, Phu Hoang,Nguyen, Mai Thanh Thi,Nguyen, Nhan Trung The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy 2022 Natural Product Sciences Vol.28 No.2
As part of our continued study on the chemical constituents of Willughbeia edulis stems, a new dimeric lignan named edulignan (1) was isolated from its EtOAc-soluble extract. Based on NMR spectroscopic interpretation, the planar structure of 1 has been suggested to have two 2-substituted 4-chromanone subunits with different stereochemical configurations. In addition, the MS/MS analysis of the products obtained by acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of 1 was supportive of its structure. Unfornatually, the new compound 1 did not show 𝛼-glucosidase inhibitory activity with an IC50 value > 250 𝜇M.

Their structures were determined using HRESIMS data and NMR spectra. Flavanones 1 - 3 were assayed in the HeLa cancer cells. Compound 1 showed moderate activity with an IC50 value of 11.2 μM.
Standardized Extract (HemoHIM) Ameliorated High Intensity Exercise Induced Fatigue in Mice
Lee, Hyun Jun,Kim, Sang Back,Boo, Kyung Jun,Ortiz, Darlene Mae,Sayson, Leandro Val,Custodio, Raly James Perez,Cheong, Jae Hoon,Kim, Seul Ki,Kim, Mikyung,Kim, Hee Jin The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy 2022 Natural Product Sciences Vol.28 No.2
HemoHIM was used as a Korean traditional medicine for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. However, there is no study on the effect of HemoHIM on fatigue. We examined the potential use of HemoHIM to determine whether it can induce anti-fatigue effects. Mice were administered with HemoHIM and VEH for 14 days. On the last day of treatment, mice were subjected to behavioral tests. Subsequently, their plasma and muscle were collected after the treadmill test to measure lactate, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), ammonia, corticosterone, glycogen, and creatine kinase (CK). We found that HemoHIM moderately increased the running time (s) in the treadmill and mobility duration in the cold swimming tests. In addition, the VEH group showed a significant increase in lactate, LDH, and corticosterone levels in the plasma compared to the group that did not perform the test. However, this was moderately reduced in HemoHIM treatment. Moreover, the HemoHIM-treated group showed significant differences in LDH and glycogen levels, and showed significantly different CK levels in the muscle. HemoHIM is considered to be effective in improving fatigue, given the duration of cold swimming or running time on a treadmill. Also, HemoHIM treatment resulted in reduced concentrations of blood and muscle parameter analysis.
