Review of a novel disease entity, immunoglobulin G4-related disease

Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related dacryoadenitis and sialoadenitis (IgG4-DS) are part of a multiorgan fibroinflammatory condition of unknown etiology termed IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD), which has been recognized as a single diagnostic entity for less than 15 years. Histopathologic examination is critical for diagnosis of IgG4-RD. CD4+ T and B cells, including IgG4-expressing plasma cells, constitute the major inflammatory cell populations in IgG4-RD and are thought to cause organ damage and tissue fibrosis. Patients with IgG4-RD who have active, untreated disease exhibit significant increase of IgG4-secreting plasmablasts in the blood. Considerable insight into the immunologic mechanisms of IgG4-RD has been achieved in the last decade using novel molecular biology approaches, including next-generation and single-cell RNA sequencing. Exploring the interactions between CD4+ T cells and B lineage cells is critical for understanding the pathophysiology of IgG4-RD. Establishment of pathogenic T cell clones and identification of antigens specific to these clones constitutes the first steps in determining the pathogenesis of the disease. Herein, the clinical features and mechanistic insights regarding pathogenesis of IgG4-RD were reviewed.
Concept Design of Personal Mobility Vehicle

A one person intelligent personal mobility vehicle is proposed in the light of Japan’s ageing society. The vehicle concept design was conducted based on the Japanese certification requirements for electric wheelchairs. Such a vehicle must be able to handle difficult surfaces such as curb drops and rises, and railroad crossings. It must be able to move through the crowd at supermarkets. Also, users need to use it for extended periods of time. Therefore, the characteristics to be achieved are as follows: good running stability on challenging roads, omnidirectional ambient object detection (OAOD) system to prevent collision, and a long battery life. Two new mechanisms were designed to achieve (a) good running stability and (b) accurate object detection. Both were extensively examined and tested.
Performance Comparison of Bit Metric Derivation Method for OFDM Adaptive Array Antenna

This paper investigates the bit error rate (BER) performance of OFDM adaptive array in combination with channel coding. Since previous studies have not unfortunately addressed in detail how to combine effectively channel coding with adaptive array using a bit metric information, this paper presents two approaches to derive the bit metric using the adaptive array output and compares the BER performances of two approaches. Computer simulation results show that the bit metric derivation using the replica signals of the array output outperforms the simple bit metric derivation using the previously determined signal constellation.
Negative Dynamic Resistance and RF Amplification in Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

We report on a numerical calculation study of two new functional properties in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs), negative dynamic resistance and RF amplification. The magnetic dynamics in a conventional CoFeB/MgO/CoFeB MTJ with in-plane magnetization was investigated using a macro-spin model simulation. To examine the influence of thermal fluctuations, random external magnetic fields were also included. Using a voltage controlled bias circuit, the negative dynamic resistance was obtained from time averaged Ⅰ-Ⅴ characteristics at both 0 K and 300 K under appropriate external magnetic fields and bias voltages. Using this negative dynamic resistance property, we demonstrated RF amplification with a 100 ㎒ high frequency signal. Sizable RF amplification gain was observed without thermal fluctuation. However, at 300 K, the RF signal was not amplified because low frequency magnetization dynamics were dominant.

Electroretinography (ERG) is a well-established diagnostic procedure for objectively evaluating retinal function. In this study, ERG in beagle dogs, which are a popular experimental animal, was performed to determine the normal range of ERG variables and assess differences between the left and right eyes. ERG findings including rod, combined rod-cone,single-flash cone, and 30-Hz flicker responses were recorded with an LED-electrode in 43 sedated beagle dogs. The subjects were divided into young (< 1 year old), adult (1∼5years old), and senile animals (≥ 6 years old). Normal ERG ranges were obtained. Significant differences in b-wave amplitude along with b/a ratio of the combined rod-cone response were found between the young and adult animals as well as young and senile dogs. No significant differences were observed between the left and right eyes. ERG variables in beagle dogs differed by age due to age-related retinal changes. Thus, we propose that normal ERG ranges should be determined according to age in each clinic and laboratory using its own equipment because each institution usually has different systems or protocols for ERG testing.

This paper presents a closed form expression for the theoretical BER of decode-and-forward (DF) relaying over time selective fading channels. In our derivation, DBPSK is chosen as a modulation scheme and radio channels between nodes are assumed to be different time selectivity and therefore, the proposed theoretical formula provides the BER at any arbitrary Doppler effect due to the mobile nodes. The validity of the proposed theoretical approach is confirmed by comparing with the computer simulation results.
