Synthesis of heteroatom and metallic compound self-co-doped porous carbon derived from swine manure for supercapacitor electrodes and lead ion adsorbents

Liyuan Qin,Yang Wua,Zhiwei Hou,Shihui Zhang,Enchen Jiang 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.102 No.-

Swine manure activated carbon (SMAC) with self-co-doped metallic compounds and heteroatoms wasprepared by combining KOH activation with pyrolysis. The structure, electrochemical performance andadsorption of SMACs prepared with various activation temperatures, activation times, alkali-carbonratios and pickling steps were investigated. A hierarchical pore structure existed in all the SMACs, whichshowed excellent and significantly different properties, including a specific capacitance of 278 F/g, and ahigh SSA of 2321 m2/g (SMACHF), which retained 100% of its capacitance after 10,000 cycles at 5 A/g and aPb2+ adsorption capacity of 211.8 mg/g at room temperature (SMACNON). The SMACs contained heteroatomfunctional groups and Si, Ca and Mg compounds, which did not produce pseudocapacitors but didincrease the Pb2+ adsorption capacity and electrochemical cycling stability. The Pb2+ adsorption capacitiesof SMACNON, SMACPHF and SMACHF corresponded to the effect of the functional group content ratherthan the effect of the SSA. These porous carbons were derived from inexpensive swine manure, combinesuitable porosity with metallic elements and heteroatom doping, and have promising uses in multifunctionalapplications.

Combined estrogen-progestin pill is a safe and effective option for endometrial hyperplasia without atypia: a three-year single center experience

        Yang Wang,Victoria Nisenblat,Liyuan Tao,XinYu Zhang,Hongzhen Li,Caihong Ma 대한부인종양학회 2019 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.30 No.3

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of oral contraceptive pill (OCP) as therapy for endometrial hyperplasia (EH) without atypia in reproductive-aged women compared with oral progestin. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out in our reproductive center. Consecutive patients diagnosed with infertility and non-atypical EH identified through electronic database who met inclusion criteria (n=309). Patients were assigned to two treatment groups: OCP (n=216) and oral progestin (n=93); clinical and reproductive outcomes were recorded. Results: Reversal of EH to normal endometrium, clinical pregnancy, live birth and miscarriage rate. Women in OCP group were younger, had higher prevalence of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and other uterine pathology and longer duration of infertility than women in progestin group. Reversal of EH was observed in 93.52% women on OCP and in 86.02% women on progestin (p=0.032; adjusted odds ratio [aOR]= 2.35; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.06-5.21) after the initial course of treatment for 2 to 6 months. Cyclic OCP (n=184) resulted in better response to treatment compared to continuous OCP (n=32) (95.11% vs. 84.38%; p=0.039; aOR =3.60; 95% CI =1.12-11.55). Clinical pregnancy rate in OCP group was marginally higher than progestin group (87/208, 41.83% vs. 27/90, 30.00%; p=0.054). Miscarriage (25.29% vs. 29.63%; p=0.654) and live birth rate (31.25% vs. 21.11%; p=0.074) were comparable between the groups. Conclusion: For the first time we demonstrate that OCP is an effective therapy for nonatypical EH and is associated with higher remission rate compared with oral progestin. Reproductive outcomes are reassuring and comparable between the two groups.

HCV-Specific Interleukin-21+CD4+ T Cells Responses Associated with Viral Control through the Modulation of HCV-Specific CD8+ T Cells Function in Chronic Hepatitis C Patients

        Guo-Hua Feng,Fu-Sheng Wang,Ji-Yuan Zhang,Qing-Lei Zeng,Lei Jin,Junliang Fu,Bin Yang,Ying Sun,Tianjun Jiang,Xiangsheng Xu,Zheng Zhang,Jinhong Yuan,Liyuan Wu 한국분자세포생물학회 2013 Molecules and cells Vol.36 No.4

Interleukin-21 (IL-21)+CD4+ T cells are involved in the immune response against hepatitis B virus (HBV) by secreting IL-21. However, the role of IL-21+CD4+ T cells in the immune response against chronic hepatitis C (CHC) virus infection is poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the role of IL-21+CD4+ T cells in CHC patients and the potential mechanisms. The study subjects in-cluded nineteen CHC patients who were grouped by viral load (low, < 106 RNA copies/ml, n = 8; high, > 106 RNA copies/ml, n = 11). The peripheral frequency of HCV-specific IL-21+CD4+ T cells was higher in the low viral load group and was negatively correlated with the serum HCV RNA viral load in all CHC patients. Meanwhile, IL-21+ cells accumulated in the liver in the low viral load group. In vitro, IL-21 treatment increased the expression of proliferation markers and cytolytic molecules on HCV-specific CD8+ T cells. In summary, these findings suggest that HCV-specific IL-21+CD4+ T cells might contribute to HCV control by rescuing HCV-specific CD8+ T cells in CHC patients.

Incorporating BIM in the Final Semester Undergraduate Project of Construction Management - A Case Study in Fuzhou University

        Liyuan Wang,Xueyuan Yan,Binghui Fan,Ruoyu Jin,Tong Yang,Georgios Kapogiannis 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.24 No.8

This pedagogical study presents building information modeling (BIM) education in the final semester construction management (CM) program. The case study conducted in Fuzhou University extends BIM education from a single BIM course in earlier undergraduate years to the senior year’s final semester project, which was designed to enable BIM utilization in multiple construction tasks (e.g., 3D site planning). This study consists of two major parts. The first part starts with the newly designed course of the final semester project of CM students. Students’ final semester project work is demonstrated depending on their selected deliverable type, which includes full BIM application group work, two partial BIM application types (i.e., construction planning/scheduling, and take-off estimate), and a research dissertation. The second part starts from the research hypothesis of whether the different deliverable type selected by students would affect their perceptions towards the final project and their professional career. Based on a follow-up questionnaire survey to the whole CM student sample aiming to test the hypotheses with statistical analyses (e.g., analysis of variance and the post-hoc analysis), it was indicated that all the four different deliverable types (i.e., subgroups) could lead to consistent perceptions of the final semester project towards their career development. However, subgroup differences were found. For example, students from the subgroup of full BIM application perceived that they had the highest level of hands-on skill enhancement throughout the project, possibly due to the fact that they linked BIM software tools to virtual reality (VR) hardware. Suggestions were provided to update the future BIM pedagogy in the final semester project, such as proper guide of CM students to opt their project deliverable type depending on their career interests, motivations in BIM utilization, and skill development needs. This current study provides insights in BIM education in terms that: 1) BIM education could be enhanced from a single course level to the senior year project in the CM program level; 2) different options offered in the final stage project within the CM curriculum might affect students’ perceptions towards BIM or their career development; and 3) the experience learned from this case study could be shared in the global community of construction education to update the curriculum incorporating information and communication technologies (e.g., BIM and VR). Future educational work in BIM could continue adopting existing educational theories (e.g., Bloom’s Taxonomy) by addressing the various levels of student learning, and viewing BIM in the bigger picture of digital construction.

SVM-Based Incremental Learning Algorithm for Large-Scale Data Stream in Cloud Computing

( Ning Wang ),( Yang Yang ),( Liyuan Feng ),( Zhenqiang Mi ),( Kun Meng ),( Qing Ji ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2014 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.8 No.10

We have witnessed the rapid development of information technology in recent years. One of the key phenomena is the fast, near-exponential increase of data. Consequently, most of the traditional data classification methods fail to meet the dynamic and real-time demands of today`s data processing and analyzing needs--especially for continuous data streams. This paper proposes an improved incremental learning algorithm for a large-scale data stream, which is based on SVM (Support Vector Machine) and is named DS-IILS. The DS-IILS takes the load condition of the entire system and the node performance into consideration to improve efficiency. The threshold of the distance to the optimal separating hyperplane is given in the DS-IILS algorithm. The samples of the history sample set and the incremental sample set that are within the scope of the threshold are all reserved. These reserved samples are treated as the training sample set. To design a more accurate classifier, the effects of the data volumes of the history sample set and the incremental sample set are handled by weighted processing. Finally, the algorithm is implemented in a cloud computing system and is applied to study user behaviors. The results of the experiment are provided and compared with other incremental learning algorithms. The results show that the DS-IILS can improve training efficiency and guarantee relatively high classification accuracy at the same time, which is consistent with the theoretical analysis.

Experimental study on thermo-hydraulic performance of nanofluids in diverse axial ratio elliptical tubes with a built-in turbulator

        Cong Qi,Tiantian Chen,Yuxing Wang,Liyuan Yang 한국화학공학회 2020 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.37 No.9

Due to the low heat transfer efficiency of common heat exchange systems, an improved heat exchange system was developed. Enhanced tubes (elliptical tubes with a built-in turbulator) instead of a smooth tube were used and TiO2-water nanofluids were substituted for water to intensify the heat transfer. The influences of turbulator (presence or absence), axial ratios of elliptical tubes (Z=1.235, 1.471, 1.706), nanoparticle concentration (=0.0 wt%, 0.1 wt%, 0.3 wt%, 0.5 wt%), and Reynolds number (Re=400-12,000) on the flow and heat transfer properties of TiO2-water nanofluids were studied. Thermal and exergy efficiency were used to research the comprehensive thermo-hydraulic characteristics of these heat transfer enhancement technologies. The thermo-hydraulic properties of nanofluids all showed an increasing trend with the growing axial ratio, nanoparticle concentration and Reynolds number. Nanofluids (=0.5 wt%) in an elliptical tube (Z=1.706) with a built-in turbulator showed the best thermal performance, which could be increased by 33.8% in comparison with water at best. The thermal efficiency index increased first and then decreased with the Re. Nanofluids in elliptical tubes with a built-in turbulator can clearly promote heat transfer under the identical condition.

Ferulic acid protects cardiomyocytes from TNF-a/cycloheximide-induced apoptosis by regulating autophagy

        Chunxiao Li,Lu Chen,Min Song,Zhirui Fang,Lusha Zhang,Joel Wake Coffie,Liyuan Zhang,Lulu Ma,Qianyi Wang,Wenjie Yang,Leyu Fang,Shaoxia Wang,Xiumei Gao,Hong Wang 대한약학회 2020 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.43 No.8

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) resultsin irreversible cardiac cell damage or death because ofdecreased blood fl ow to the heart. Apoptosis plays an importantrole in the process of tissue damage after myocardialinfarction (MI), which has pathological and therapeuticimplications. Ferulic acid (FA) is a phenolic acid endowedwith strong antioxidative and cytoprotective activities. Thepresent study aimed to investigate whether FA protectscardiomyocytes from apoptosis by regulating autophagy, which is a cellular self-digestion process, and one of thefi rst lines of defense against oxidative stress. Apoptosis wasinduced by TNF-α (10 ng/mL) and cycloheximide (CHX,5 μg/mL) in rat H9c2 cardiomyocytes. FA-inhibited TNF-α/CHX-induced apoptosis was determined by the quantifi cationof TUNEL-positive cells, and the eff ect was associatedwith decreased ROS production and inhibited caspase3activation. FA treatment enhanced autophagy and increasedautophagy-associated protein expression, leading to an inhibitionof mTOR signaling. When co-treated with 3-methyladenine(3-MA), an autophagy inhibitor, the anti-apoptoticeff ect of FA was attenuated. In an in vivo mouse MI model,FA treatment decreased the apoptotic cell number, reducedinfarct size, and improved cardiac performance, as determinedby histological and echocardiographic assessments. Taken collectively, these results suggest that FA could protectcardiomyocytes from apoptosis by enhancing autophagy.

An Interleaved Converter for 12-pulse Rectifier Harmonic Suppression

Li, Yuan,Yang, Wei,Cang, Sheng,Yang, Shiyan The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.5

In order to further improve the harmonic suppression capability of conventional 12-pulse rectifiers, this paper proposes a low harmonic 12-pulse rectifier using an Active Inter-Phase Reactor (AIPR). Through a detailed analysis of the relationship between the input current, output current and circulating current of the DC side, the mechanism where the AC grid side current harmonics can be suppressed by the DC side circulating current is revealed. On this basis, an interleaved APFC controlled by a DSP is designed and used as an AIPR along with an interphase reactor. A simulation is carried out with MATLAB/Simulink and an experiment is performed on a 9-kVA prototype. The obtained results verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed approach. Compared with a traditional 12-pulse rectifier, the THD can be reduced to 1/5 of the original value, and the capacity of the AIPR is only 2% of the load power. Thus, it is suitable for high-power applications.
