This is a series of continuing research on facial bone fractures of Koreans worked by Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Dental College of Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, since 1972. The study was based on a series of 630 patients with facial bone fractures treated as in patient at Yonsei Medical Center, Yonsei University, during the period of Jan. 1982 through Dec, 1987. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The ratio of Men to Women was 4.3 : 1, and admissions for facial bone fractures have been increased year after 1984. 2. The age frequency was highest in the third decade(38.3%). and fourth, second, fifth decade in orders. 3. The traffic accident was the most frequent cause of facial bone fractures(51.3%). 4. The most common location of facial bone fractures was the Mandible(35.3%), and Zygoma complex(29.8%), Nasal bone(15.0%), Maxilla(11.0%) were next in order of frequency. 5. In 291 patients of Mandible fractures, 226(77.7%) had fractures only in Mandible and 65(22.3%) had another facial bone fractures. The most frequent fracture site of mandible was the Symphysis(43.0%) and Angle(22.4%), and Simple fracture was the most frequent in type of fracture(66.9%). Intermaxillarty fixatin & Open reduction was major method of treatment(36.9%). 6. In 394 patients of Midface fractures 323(82.0%) had fractures only in Midface and 71(18.0%) had another facial bone fractures. The most frequent site of Midface fractures was zygoma complex & zygomatic arch(42.7%), and Simple fracture was the most common type of fractures. Observation(Maxilla :44.2%, Zygoma :51.0%) and Open Reduction(Maxilla :20.0%. Zygoma :23.5%) were the major method of treatment. 7. The frequency of Nasal bone fracture was about 1/5 of Midface fractures, and Closed Reduction(42.2%) was the major method of treatment. 8. The complication was reported in only 16 patients, and Malunion was the major complication. 9. Head(44.4%), Lower extrimities(14.5%) and Eye(12.3%) were injured commonly with facial bone fractures. 10. The elapsed time from injury to hospital was within 24 hours in 73.8% of patients, however 15.5% of patients arrived the hospital 72 hours after injury.

Sport has taken a position as significant influence all over the world for a long time. These days, sport must exist with us in order to provide pleasure, so people have a tendency to expect it what happens to them. Therefore, a number of sport teams and competitions are able to stimulate people to be interested in sport. Sport event, information, equipment, and sport player management need systems which accompany with security and pleasure because the systematical managements establish security, and help sport players not to make an error that is a fountain of good quality game. Thus, sport players improve their ability, so the audience are willing to pay to see the game. In order to extend the power of sport influence, sport should be organized in terms of managing sport processes well. Unfortunately, the system of management for sport is not still adequate and organized in Korea. In other words, many materials must be sporadic, and newspapers or magazines have treated of sport management with fragmentary knowledge so far. Today, systematical management is essential to all segments of the sport industry, professional or amateur, school or club, private or government at any level community or individual. Hopefully, this research will be instructive as a starting point to derive a special quality of sport management which is suited to korea sport market by comparing to other management systems in order to formulate organized management industry.

<P>The regeneration of bone defects caused by periodontal disease or trauma is an important goal. Porous hydroxyapatite (HA) is an osteoconductive graft material. However, the hydrophobic properties of HA can be a disadvantage in the initial healing process. HA can be coated with TiO<SUB>2</SUB> to improve its hydrophilicity, and ultraviolet irradiation (UV) can further increase the hydrophilicity by photofunctionalization. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of 5% TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-coated HA on rabbit calvarial defects and compare it with that of photofunctionalization on new bone in the early stage. The following four study groups were established, negative control, HA, TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-coated HA, and TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-coated HA with UV. The animals were sacrificed and the defects were assessed by radiography as well as histologic and histomorphometric analyses. At 2 and 8 weeks postoperatively, the TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-coated HA with UV group and TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-coated HA group showed significantly higher percentages of new bone than the control group (<I>p</I> < 0.05). UV irradiation increased the extent of new bone formation, and there was a significant difference between the TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-coated HA group and TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-coated HA with UV group. The combination of TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/HA and UV irradiation in bone regeneration appears to induce a favorable response.</P>

It is needed to distinguish between primary lung cancer and metastatic lung cancer in solitary lung nodule detected in patient with history of another solid cancer. But in case of multiplel lung nodules, we generally tend to consider the lung lesions as a metastatic lesion without biopsy. A 62 years old male presented with two tiny lung nodules (each nodule was located on each lung) which were detected after 18 months of right nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma. At that time, the lesions were considered as metastatic renal cell carcinoma without biopsy by the attendant doctor. Although targeted therapies of RCC were given, the lung lesion was progressed and then the patients came to our hospital. We tried biopsy of the larger lung nodule and the pathologic result confirmed primary lung squamous cell carcinoma. So surgical resection was performed and pathologic staging revealed pT1N0. Contralateral lung nodule was too small to take biopsy, we decided to take close observation. Several months later, size of the remnant lung nodule was increased and biopsy was performed. At this time, the result was proven metastatic renal cell carcinoma and until now, he is taking everolimus everyday. We present a confused case of concurrence of metastatic lung cancer with a primary lung cancer.

비인두암에서 시행되는 방사선 치료 이후에 구강건조증과 피부 변화는 흔하게 볼 수 있는 합병증 중 하나이다. 비인두암의 좋은 예후를 고려할 때, 그러한 치료와 관련된 독성들은 상대적으로 오랫동안 문제를 야기하며 삶의 질 저하를 불러온다. 특히 류마티스 관절염, 루푸스와 같은 결합조직 질환을 가진 환자들에게서 방사선 치료를 시행하였을 때, 빈번하게 심각한 독성이 관찰된다. 본 증례는 성인형 스틸씨 병에서 병발된 비인두암의 치료로 항암방사선 동시 치료를 실시한 결과, 비교적 경미한 구강 건조, 점막염, 불면증 등의 합병증이 관찰되었으나, 완전 관해가 획득되었다. 이에 저자들은 과거에 보고된 적 없는 성인형 스틸씨 병에 병발한 비인두암의 치료 경험을 다른 결합조직질환들에서 방사선 치료의 문헌들과 함께 보고하는 바이다.
상기도 기침증후군에서 만성 기침에 대한 비강 내 스테로이드제의 영향

Purpose: Although upper airway cough syndrome (UACS) is one of the most common causes of chronic cough, there are few reports on the effects of intranasal steroids (INS) on improvement of cough in patients with chronic cough caused by UACS. Here, we observed improvement in cough depending on prescribed medications, including INS, in patients with chronic cough caused exclusively by UACS in the clinical setting. Methods: Patients with chronic cough caused exclusively by UACS were selected by the retrospective review of medical records. Durations and kinds of prescribed medications, nasal and postnasal drip symptoms, and results of paranasal sinus series at first visit were evaluated. According to the improvement of cough at the second visit, the patients were divided into the improved and unimproved groups. Odds ratios of each medication in the improved group were analyzed by logistic regression adjusted for age, sex, smoking history, duration of treatment, prescriptions of medications, presence of nasal and postnasal drip symptoms, and results of paranasal sinus series. Results: A total of 122 patients with chronic cough caused exclusively by UACS were comprised of 38 patients in the improved group and 84 patients in the unimproved group. INS were prescribed to 45 patients, and the number of patients with INS prescription were significantly higher in the unimproved group than that in not-improved group (55.3% vs. 28.6%, P=0.008). The odds ratio of INS prescription was significantly higher in the improved group (odds ratio, 4.78; 95% confidence interval, 1.03-22.3; P=0.046). Conclusion: INS could improve cough symptom in patients with UACS. These results warrant further evaluation.(Allergy Asthma Respir Dis 2014;2:362-369)
고분자 결합제를 함유한 입상체의 압축특성 1 압축과정의 분류

고분자 물질(Viton-A, Estane, PE)을 결합제로 사용하여 분체상 물질(Filler-R, CaCO₃)을 피복-응집시킨 입상체의 압축특성을 규명하기 위하여, 분체의 압축성과 복원성의 정량적 산출이 가능한 실시간 자료 수집장치를 개발하였고, 압축-해압 전체과정 동안 가압상태하의 밀도를 연속 측정함으로써 결합제종류, 입상체 크기 및 입도분포에 따른 단계별 압축과정을 분류하였다. The compression characteristics of the flocculated granule with polymeric binders were investigated. To evaluate quantitatively the compressibility and reassertion (postpressing growth) of the granular bed, real time data acquisition system was specially designed. Nearly continuous pressure-density curves clearly showed the dominating volume-reduction mechanisms during the entire compression and decompression process and showed the effects of the binder characteristics, granule size.

고분자 물질을 결합제로 사용하여 고형충전물을 피복-응집시킨 입상체를 압축할 때, 입상계층 내의 intragranular stress, 입자-벽면간의 마찰, 압축밀도간의 상관관계를 규명하였다. 입상체층 상단에 가해진 압력과 하단에 전달간 압력간에는 선형관계가 성립되었고, 압축밀도에 대한 입상체크기와 입도분포의 영향은 결합제의 특성에 의해 결정되었다. When the flocculated granule with polymeric binders were compressed, correlations for intragranular stress, particle-wall friction, and %TMD in the granular bed has been investigated. The relation between the applied pressure and the transmitted pressure was linear over the entire applied pressure range for all of the samples. The effect of the granule size and distribution on the compacted density was dominated largely due to the binder characteristics.
