Effects of Exercise on Sleep Quality in Pregnant Women: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

        Shu-Ya Yang,Shou-Jen Lan,Yea-Yin Yen,Yen-Ping Hsieh,Pei-Tseng Kung,Shao-Huan Lan 한국간호과학회 2020 Asian Nursing Research Vol.14 No.1

Purpose: Sleep quality was considered a priority concern facing pregnant women. Conventional wisdom argues that good sleep quality benefits pregnant women and their fetuses. The aim of this study is to assess the effects of a specific exercise program on the sleep quality in pregnant women. Methods: Searches were executed in seven databases since their inceptions until February 28, 2019, for randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of an exercise program on the sleep quality and insomnia in pregnant women. A random-effects model was applied for meta-analysis, and odds ratio, mean differences (MDs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) are shown as parts of outcomes. Results: Seven studies were included for meta-analysis. Compared with their not-exercising counterparts, analyses showed that regularly exercising women had significantly enhanced sleep quality, with an odds ratio of 6.21 (95% CI, 2.02–19.11;p = .001; I2 = 80.2%), with a standardized MD of −0.93 (95% CI, −1.19 to −0.67; p < .001; I2 = 30.0%). However, exercising women showed no significant insomnia improvement, with an standardized MD of −2.85 (95% CI, −7.67 to 1.98; p = .250; I2 = 97.0%), relative to their not-exercising counterparts. Conclusion: This research indicated that exercise has a positive impact on the sleep quality of pregnant women. Despite the aforementioned positive impact on sleep quality, the present study did not find evidence to support that exercise may also improve insomnia for pregnant women.

Auricular acupressure promotes uterine involution after cesarean section: A randomized controlled trial

        Shu-xin Wang,Jing-chun Zeng,Ting Li,Wan-lan Zhang,Yan-fang Li,Run-jin Zhou,Zi-jun Liu,Yu-ling Liu,Xun Zhuang,Rui Zhang,Li-ming Lu,Guo-hua Lin 한국한의학연구원 2021 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.10 No.3

Background: Postpartum subinvolution of the uterus is a more common condition after cesarean section. Auricular acupressure (AA) is widely used for the treatment of postpartum diseases. However, few studies have explored the effects of AA as a treatment of uterine involution following cesarean section to date. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of AA for uterine involution after cesarean section. Methods: A total of 109 women who underwent cesarean section participated in this study. They were randomly allocated to either real AA or sham AA in a 1:1 ratio by a computer program. For 3 days, the real AA and sham AA groups received treatment 3 times daily. A series of assessments at 42 days after cesarean section, namely on the uterine size, the incidence of hydrometra, the first anal exsufflation time, bleeding volume at 6 hours, bleeding volume at 6–24 hours along with other general assessments were carried out. Results: A total of 89 women completed the study. The uterine size at 42 days after a cesarean section was 6.3 cm smaller in the real AA group than in the sham AA group (P < 0.01). The incidence of hydrometra on day 42 postpartum was lower in the real AA group than in the sham AA group (P < 0.01). The lochia duration and the first anal exsufflation time after cesarean section were shorter in the real AA group than in the sham AA group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: AA improves uterine involution after cesarean section. Trial registration: ChiCTR1800015569.

Comparison of outcomes of laparotomic and minimally invasive radical hysterectomy in women with early-stage cervical cancer

        Shu-Han Chang,Hung-Hsueh Chou,Kuan-Gen Huang,Lan-Yan Yang,Yu-Bin Pan,Chyong-Huey Lai 대한부인종양학회 2024 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.35 No.5

Objective: This study compared the outcomes of laparotomic radical hysterectomy (LRH) and minimally invasive radical hysterectomy (MISRH) in patients with early-stage cervical cancer. Methods: The clinical data of patients with early-stage cervical cancer who underwent LRH or MISRH (laparoscopic/robotic) at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou Branch, from 2002 to 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. The surgical safety (operation time, blood loss, blood transfusion rate, length of postoperative stay, and perioperative complications), overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and recurrence pattern were analyzed. Propensity score matching (PSM) at a 3:1 ratio was performed to balance prognostic variables. Results: Of the 760 patients (entire cohort), 614 underwent LRH and 146 underwent MISRH. After PSM, 394 and 140 patients were included in the LRH and MISRH groups, respectively. The 5-year OS rate was significantly lower in the MISRH group than in the LRH group (85.6% vs. 93.2%, p=0.043), and the 5-year DFS rate (p=0.21) did not differ significantly. After PSM, the 5-year OS rates did not differ significantly between the MISRH and LRH groups (87.1% vs. 92.1%, p=0.393). The MISRH group had a significantly shorter operation time (p<0.001), lower intraoperative blood loss (p<0.001), lower blood transfusion rate (p<0.001), and shorter postoperative stay (p<0.001) but a significantly higher rate of intraoperative bladder injury (p<0.001) than the LRH group. Conclusion: After PSM, MISRH is associated with nonsignificantly lower OS but a significantly higher risk of intraoperative urological complications than LRH.

      • Optimum Blank Design of Thick-Plate Metal Forming without Blank Holder

        Jian Lan,Mianli Zhang,Huajie Mao,Maosheng Shu,Lin Hua 한국소성가공학회 2010 기타자료 Vol.2010 No.6

Many blank design methods are used in sheet metal forming industry, but most of them originated from applications of thin sheet metal forming with blank holder. There are few researches on blank design methods of thick-plate metal forming without blank holder, which process has two characteristics: workpiece thinning locally and severely, workpiece inside surface not contacting with top punch because of local bulk deforming. An optimum blank design method is proposed in this paper for the thick-plate metal forming without blank holder. This method consists of two stages: the initial blank design stage and the blank optimization stage. The first stage is to obtain initial blank shape using Inverse Finite Element Approach (IFEA) from the middle-thick layer of 3D model of target part. In the second stage, firstly, simulate and obtain deformed workpiece by forward finite element analysis; then calculate the shape error between deformed workpiece and target part, and the indicator △ of optimization procedure; finally, correct the blank shape by the feedback of shape error until the indicator △ is smaller than tolerance. In order to verify the proposed method, a reverse arm bracket is investigated.

      • Integrated Map-matching Algorithm Based on Fuzzy Logic and Dead Reckoning

        Yan-Lan Yang,Hua Ye,Shu-Min Fei 제어로봇시스템학회 2010 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

Based on the concept of fuzzy logic, a new map-matching algorithm was proposed to reduce the GPS positioning error by means of position correction in use of the digital map. Firstly, three fuzzy rules are introduced in different aspects which may influent the credibility judgment of the best matching road. And the corresponding membership functions are defined in details separately for sub-evaluations of the direction consistency, the proximity and the track similarity against the original GPS position and its candidate road, where dead reckoning technique is referred. Secondly, the comprehensive evaluation performing as the unique basis for final judgment is made by doing simple addition of the results of these sub-evaluations with certain weights according to their contributions towards the credibility judgment. Finally, the original GPS position is revised by making a vertical projection onto the best matching road. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of this algorithm in improving the GPS positioning accuracy.

      • Incidence, Survival and Prevalence of Esophageal and Gastric Cancer in Linzhou City from 2003 to 2009

        Liu, Shu-Zheng,Wang, Bing,Zhang, Fang,Chen, Qiong,Yu, Liang,Cheng, Lan-Ping,Sun, Xi-Bin,Duan, Guang-Cai Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.10

This study describes recent trends in incidence, survival and prevalence of subgroups of esophageal and gastric cancer in Linzhou city between 2003 and 2009. Data of esophageal and gastric cancer for the period of interest were extracted from the Linzhou Cancer Registry. Using information on tumor morphology or anatomical site, data were divided into six groups; esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, esophageal adenocarcinoma, other and unspecified types of esophageal cancer, and cardia, non-cardia, and unspecified anatomical site of stomach cancer. Incidence, survival and prevalence rates for each of the six cancer groups were calculated. The majority of esophageal cancers were squamous cell carcinomas (82%). Cardiac cancer was the major gastric cancer group (64%). The incidence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and gastric cardiac cancer increased between 2003 and 2009. Both esophageal and gastric cancer had a higher incidence in males compared with females. Overall survival was poor in all sub-groups with 1 year survival ranging from 45.9 to 65.6% and 5 year survival ranging from 14.7 to 30.5%. Prevalence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and gastric cardiac cancer was high (accounting for 80% overall). An increased focus on prevention and early diagnosis, especially in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and gastric cardiac cancer, is required.

Desorption dynamics of deuterium in CuCrZr alloy

        Thi Nguyen, Lan Anh,Lee, Sanghwa,Noh, S.J.,Lee, S.K.,Park, M.C.,Shu, Wataru,Pitcher, Spencer,Torcy, David,Guillermain, David,Kim, Jaeyong Elsevier 2017 JOURNAL OF NUCLEAR MATERIALS Vol.496 No.-

Abstract

Desorption behavior of deuterium (D2) in CuCrZr alloy was investigated considering sample thickness, loading and baking temperature of deuterium followed by the ITER scopes. Cylindrical specimens of 1, 3, 5 mm thick with 4 mm diameter were exposed to deuterium at a pressure of 25 bar at 120, 240 and 350 °C for 24 h, then baked at 800 °C in a vacuum chamber maintained at a pressure lower than 10−7 Torr. Deuterium desorption characteristics such as desorption rate and amount of deuterium in the sample were estimated by analyzing the desorption peaks monitored with a residual gas analyzer (RGA), and the trapping energy of deuterium was calculated using thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). Secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) results showed that deuterium atoms embedded in the sample at a depth of less than 15 μm and desorbed as low as 400 °C. All absorbed deuterium atoms in the specimen were completely retrieved by dynamic pumping at 800 °C in 15 min. The desorption rate of deuterium per unit area was inversely proportional to the increment of the thickness of the sample, and was proportional to the loading temperature. Based on the assumption that a uniform distribution of interstitial sites for deuterium follows the Femi-Dirac statistics, the result of TDS demonstrated that the CuCrZr alloy has two types of trapping energies, which were estimated to be 62 and 79 kJ/mol.

Highlights

Desorption behavior of deuterium in CuCrZr alloys was investigated following the ITER scopes.

Deuterium was embedded in CuCrZr alloys at a depth of less than 15 μm, and can be completely retrieved in 15 min through dynamic pumping at 800 °C.

Desorption rate of deuterium was inversely proportional to the increment of the thickness of the sample but proportional to the loading temperature.

The trapping energies of deuterium in CuCrZr alloys were 62 and 79 kJ/mol.
