      • Directional adjacency-score function for protein fold recognition

        Introduction: It is a challenge to design a protein score function which stabilizes the native structures of many proteins simultaneously. The coarse-grained description of proteins to construct the pairwise-contact score function usually ignores the backbone directionality of protein structures. We propose a new two-body score function which stabilizes all native states of 1,006 proteins simultaneously. This two-body score function differs from the usual pairwise-contact functions in that it considers two adjacent amino acids at two ends of each peptide bond with the backbone directionality from the N-terminal to the C-terminal. The score is a corresponding propensity for a directional alignment of two adjacent amino acids with their local environments. Results and Discussion: We show that the construction of a directional adjacency-score function was achieved using 1,006 training proteins with the sequence homology less than 30%, which include all representatives of different protein classes. After parameterizing the local environments of amino acids into 9 categories depending on three secondary structures and three kinds of hydrophobicity of amino acids, the 32,400 adjacency-scores of amino acids could be determined by the perceptron learning and the protein threading. These could stabilize simultaneously all native folds of 1,006 training proteins. When these parameters are tested on the new distinct 382 proteins with the sequence homology less than 90%, 371 (97.1%) proteins could recognize their native folds. We also showed using these parameters that the retro sequence of the SH3 domain, the B domain of Staphylococcal protein A, and the B1 domain of Streptococcal protein G could not be stabilized to fold, which agrees with the experimental evidence.

        Damage on the Surface of Zinc Oxide Thin Films Etched in Cl-based Gas Chemistry

        We investigated the etching characteristics of zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films deposited by the atomic layer deposition method. The gases of the inductively coupled plasma chemistry consisted of Cl_2, Ar, and O_(2·) The maximum etch rate was 40.3 nm/min at a gas flow ratio of Cl_2/Ar=15:5 sccm, radio-frequency power of 600 W, bias power of 200 W, and process pressure of 2 Pa. We also investigated the plasma induced damage in the etched ZnO thin films using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy and photoluminescence (PL). A highly oriented (100) peak was present in the XRD spectroscopy of the ZnO samples. The full width at half maximum value of the ZnO sample etched using the O_2/Cl_2/Ar chemistry was higher than that of the as-deposited sample. The roughness of the ZnO thin films increased from 1.91nm to 2.45 nm after etching in the O_2/Cl_2/Ar plasma chemistry. Also, we obtained a strong band edge emission at 380nm. The intensities of the peaks in the PL spectra from the samples etched in all of the chemistries were increased. However, there was no deep level emission.

        We investigated the etching characteristics of zinc oxide (ZnO) and the effect of additive gases in a Cl2-based inductively coupled plasma. The inert gases were argon, nitrogen, and helium. The maximum etch rates were 44.3,39.9, and 37.9 nm/min for Cl2(75%)/Ar(25%), Cl2(50%)/N2(50%), and Cl2(75%)/He(25%) gas mixtures, 600 W radiofrequency power, 150 W bias power, and 2 Pa process pressure. We obtained the maximum etch rate by a combination of chemical reaction and physical bombardment. A volatile compound of Zn-Cl. achieved the chemical reaction on the surface of the ZnO thin films. The physical etching was performed by inert gas ion bombardment that broke the Zn-O bonds. The highly oriented (002) peak was determined on samples, and the (013) peak of Zn_2SiO_4 was observed in the ZnO thin film sample based on x-ray diffraction spectroscopy patterns. In addition, the sample of Cl_2/He chemistry showed a high full-width at half-maximum value. The root-mean-square roughness of ZnO thin films decreased to 1.33 nm from 5.88 nm at Cl_2(50%)/N_2(50%) plasma chemistry.

      • 관절경적 Bankart 병변 봉합술: 5년 이상 추시 결과

        목적: 외상성 재발성 견관절 탈구환자에서 Bankart 병변에 대해 금속 봉합나사못을 이용한 관절경적 봉합술의 유용성을 알아보고자 한다. 대상 및 방법: 5년 이상 추시가 가능하였던 환자 85명(남 80명, 여 5명)을 대상으로 후향적 연구를 시행하였다. 수술 당시 환자의 평균 연령은 26세(15세~52세)였고, 이환 기간은 6개월에서 38개월까지 평균 20개월이었다. 모든 예에서 Bankart 병변이 존재하였고, 동반 병변으로 Hill-Sachs 병변과 SLAP 병변이 각각 44예, 10예였으며, 7예에서 회전근개 부분 파열이 관찰되었다. 평균 추시 기간은 7년 5개월(5년 8개월~9년)이었다. 결과: 술 전 Rowe 점수는 평균 29.3점(25점~50점)이였으며, 최종 추시 시의 Rowe 점수는 평균 86.8점(40~100)으로 우수 28 예(32.9%), 양호 46예(54.1%)로 74예(87.%)의 환자에서 양호 이상의 결과를 얻었으며 견관절의 운동 범위는 70예(82.4%)에서 정상으로 회복되었다. 재탈구가 3예(3.5%)에서 발생하였고 관절경적 재수술을 시행하였다. 결론: 외상성 재발성 견관절 탈구로 인한 전방 불안정성 환자에서 Bankart 병변에 대한 금속 봉합나사못을 이용한 관절경적 봉합술은 우수한 임상 결과와 낮은 재발율을 보였고, 합병증을 낮출 수 있는 효과적인 술식 중에 하나라고 사료된다. Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of arthroscopic Bankart repair using metal suture anchors for treatment of chronic traumatic anterior instability of shoulder joint. Materials and Methods: 85 patients (80 male and 5 female) were included in this study. The average age was 26 (15~52) years old and the period from the first injury to operation was average 20 (6~38) months. All cases had Bankart lesion and 44 cases had Hill-Sachs lesion. The SLAP lesion was associated in 10 cases and 7 cases had partial rotator cuff tear. The average follow-up period was 89 (68~108) months. Results: Preoperative Rowe score was average 29.3 (25~50) and Rowe score improved to 86.8 (40~100), excellent in 28 cases (32.9%) and good in 46 cases (54.1%) at last follow up period and 70 cases (82.4%) had full range of motion of the shoulder. The arthroscopic revision surgery of the shoulder was performed in 3 cases (3.5%) because of postoperative re-dislocation. Conclusion: We concluded that arthroscopic Bankart repair with metal suture anchors is one of the reliable and effective method for recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation with Bankart lesion.

        자연친화적인 산림경영을 위한 안면도 산림자원 분석

        This study was carried out to research structure of forest vegetation and site condition, and supply basic data for conservation of pine forest and ecologically sustainable forest management and control in Anmyondo area. The forest of Anmyondo were largely classified as four forest community : Pinus densiflora community, Pinus thunbergii community, Pinus rigida community, and Quercus variabilis community. Organic matter, total nitrogen, and other nutrients in soil of the study area were relatively low, and average soil pH was 4.9. Soil texture was sandy clay or heavy clay and so the aeration and permeability could be poor. In this study site, the methods such as the promotion of germination of pine seeds through removal of forest floor and inducement of natural regeneration through such method as regeneration under shelter wood would be better than the method such as afforestation after clear-cutting for conservation the pine forests. Also, it will be a good method to practice tending for hardwood species in the dominant areas by hardwood species.

        한약사의 한약조제 적정조제건수 산출을 위한 탕전실의 조제시간 측정연구

        Objectives : This study was done to suggest appropriate number and time of dispensing herbal medicine for each Korean pharmacist. Methods : For this study, we visited one herbal dispensary institution which was considered as one of the biggest herbal dispensary preparing the largest number of prescription. We observed the work in the dispensary and recorded time for preparing prescriptions of 5 Korean Pharmacists. And we also recorded time for preparing prescriptions with toxic medicinal herbs of each Korean Pharmacist. Investigation has been done for 3 weeks, from 11, Jan. to 4, Feb. in 2016. Results : The whole dispensed prescription number of 5 Korean Pharmacists during 3 weeks were 899. These prescriptions include toxic medicinal herbs and general prescriptions. Ratio of prescriptions including toxic medicinal herbs was 38.4% while general prescriptions was 61.6%. Average direct dispensing time for herbal prescription of Korean pharmacists were 6.2 minutes. Applied personal allowances, appropriate number for dispensing in each day was 22.7. With allowances rate in general workplace, appropriate number for preparing was 20.5. According to ILO allowances regulation, appropriate number for preparing was 18.8. Conclusions : Suggested number of dispensing herbal medicine per day for each Korean pharmacist was 20.5. Applying this would be beneficial for development of Korean medicine circumstances.
