CRAMP was identified from a cDNA clone derived from a mouse femoral marrow cells as a member of cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide. Tertiary structure of CRAMP in TFE/$H_2O$ (1 : 1, v/v) solution has been determined by NMR spectroscopy previously and consists of two amphipathic $\alpha-helices$ from Leu4 to Lys10 and from Gly16 to Leu33. These two helices are connected by a flexible region from Gly11 to Gly16. Analysis of series of fragments composed of various portion of CRAMP revealed that an 18-residue fragment with the sequence from Gly16 to Leu33 (CRAMP-18) was found to retain antibacterial activity without cytotoxicity. The effects of two Phe residues at positions 14 and 15 of CRAMP-18 on structure, antibacterial activity, and interaction with lipid membranes were investigated by $Phe^{14,15}$ ${\rightarrow}$ Ala substitution (CRAMP-18-A) in the present study. Substitution of Phe with Ala in CRAMP-18 caused a significant reduction on antibacterial and membrane-disrupting activities. Tertiary structures of CRAMP-18 in 50% TFE/$H_2O$ (1 : 1, v : v) solution shows amphipathic ${\alpha}$-helix, from $Glu^2{\;}to{\;}Leu^{18}$, while CRAMP-18-A has relatively short amphipathic ${\alpha}$-helix from $Leu^4{\;}to{\;}Ala^{15}$. These results suggest that the hydrophobic property of $Phe^{14}{\;}and{\;}Phe^15$ in CRAMP-18 is essential for its antibacterial activity, ${\alpha}$-helical structure, and interactions with phospholipid membranes.

Endocrine diseases, including pituitary and adrenal conditions, are frequently accompanied by diabetes mellitus. Treatment of an underlying endocrine disease often improves insulin resistance and glucose control. The co-occurrence of acromegaly and Cushing syndrome in a single individual is extremely rare. We describe here a patient who showed dramatic improvement in glucose control following treatment for coexisting acromegaly and Cushing syndrome. A 56-year-old woman who underwent evaluation of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and an incidentally discovered adrenal mass was diagnosed with acromegaly and a unilateral cortisol-producing adrenal adenoma. She showed the typical features of acromegaly and Cushing syndrome, but had never been examined for other endocrine disease. Upon hospitalization, her blood glucose was poorly controlled despite a high dosage of insulin. After adrenalectomy for Cushing syndrome, her insulin dosage decreased by almost half. Insulin treatment was eventually discontinued following the subsequent surgical removal of the pituitary macroadenoma responsible for acromegaly. These findings show the deleterious effects of excess growth hormone and cortisol on glucose metabolism and the importance of clinical suspicion of endocrine diseases in patients with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus.

Ethaboxam is the first proprietary fungicide developed in Korea, registered in 1998 and commercialized in 1999 by LG Chemical Ltd., Korea. It is a derivative of aminothiazole carboxamide and formulated into 25% wettable powder for practical application in fields. Ethaboxam effectively controlled cucumber downy mildew caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis, potato late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans, and pepper Phytophthora blight caused by P. capsici, and was superior or comparable to the commercial standards, when foliarly sprayed 3∼5 times until dripping off at approximately 7-day intervals during the growing season. Ethaboxam was required at least 125 mg/liter and 250 mg/liter for effective control of cucumber downy mildew, and potato late blight and pepper Phytophthora blight, respectively. There was not phytotoxicity observed o leaves, stems or fruits of cucumber, potato and pepper from any trial.

A 32-year-old pregnant woman (34 + 5 weeks) was admitted with dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Previously, she was diag-nosed with gestational diabetes mellitus at 28 weeks with 100 g-OGTT and insulin therapy was started. Her average fasting glucose level was 97 mg/dL and postprandial 1-hour glucose level was 130 mg/dL with basal-bolus insulin therapy (to-tal dose of 28-30 IU/day). At 34 + 0 weeks of gestational age, polyuria and unexpected weight loss (2 kg/week) with hyperglycemia occurred, and total dose of daily insulin requirement was increased up to 50 IU/day. At admission, her serum glucose level was high (502 mg/dL), and urinalysis revealed ketonuria +3. Arterial blood gas analysis revealed pH of 6.83, pCO2 of 9 mmHg, and bicarbonate of 2 mmol/L with an anion gap of 23.5 mmol/L. The diagnosis of diabetic ketoacidosis was established and emergency caesarean sec-tion was conducted due to fetal distress. She was finally diagnosed with fulminant type 1 diabetes mellitus, and multiple daily in-sulin injection therapy was continued after delivery. (Korean J Med 2017;92:186-189)

Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is a glycoprotein of 15500 daltons molecular weight produced by T-lymphocytes, which stimulates cells from hepatopoietic lineages which express specific IL-2 receptors. Monoclonal antibody against IL-2 peptide was generated 104 wells among 218 which were survived in HAT media produced anti IL-2 antibody. All 11 clones which were recloned from 104 positive wells have been identified to produce IgG₁ type monoclonal antibody which has kappa light chain after ELISA subtyping analysis. After purification of IgG₁ monoclonal antibody, heavy and light chain of immunoglobulin has been identified whose molecular weight are 51 KD, 25 KD, respectively. These IL-2 antibodies were confirmed using immunoblotting techniques. IgG₁ type Il-2 monoclonal antibody were bound to IL-2 antigen whose molecular weight is 15.5 KD.

대장균에서 재조합 발현된 Hepatitis B virus 표면항원 Pre-$S_2$ peptide로 면역시킨 Balb/c 마우스 비장세포와 SP2/O-Ag 14 미에로마 세포를 융합시켜 Pre-$S_2$에 대한 단일클론 항체를 생산하였다. HAT 선택배지에서 자란 70개의 융합세포군 중 Pre-$S_2$에 대한 항체를 생산하는 6개의 융합세포군을 제한 희석법으로 클로닝하였으며 ELISA 방법을 이용하여 이들 6클론을 isotype 한 결과 모두 kappa light chain을 갖는 IgM이었다. 이들 항체의 항원특이성은 western bolt를 이용하여 55 amino acid Pre-$S_2$ peptide와 결합함을 확인하였다.
