Inhibitory effects of the extract from Quercus dentata gallnut against plant virus infection

Pepper mild mosaic virus (PMMoV) and cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) are important pathogens in various vegetable crops worldwide. We have found that methanol extracts of Quercus dentate (Daimyo Oak) gallnut strongly inhibit PMMoV and CMV infection. Based on this result, the inhibitor named as "KN0912" formulated from the extract of Q. dentate gallnut was tested for its inhibitory effects on PMMoV or CMV infection to each local lesion host plant (Nicotiana glutinosa; PMMoV, Chenopodium amaranticolor; CMV). Pre-treatment effect of KN0912 against infections of each virus to local host plant was measured to be 75. 1:±0. 5-97. 5±1. 5% to PMMoV and 70.6±2.2-99.0±1.0% to CMV in 1-10mg/ml conc. and the absorption effect of the antiviral composition of KN0912 to the inside of tobacco leaves tissue, was inhibited by 55.7% to PMMoV and 63.8% to CMV. The persistence of KN0912 treatment was maintained until after the 3 days high inhibitory effect by 98% to PMMoV and by 95.1% to CMV. Inhibitory effects on systemic host plants of KN0912 were measured to be 80-90% to PMMoV and 60-75% to CMV. From the change of morphological characteristics of PMMoV particles under EM, we are tentatively suggested that one mode of action of KN0912 is inactivation due to the destruction of virus particles.

We present a case of recurrent cutaneous metastasis which origniated from an internal organ. The patient had been a 63 years old female who had had ovarian carcinoma stage III and total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingooophorectomy, partial omentectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy and chemotherapy had been done. She presented a nodule measuring 1×1cm on her umbilical area. Histopathologic findings were consistent with metastatic papillary serous cystadeno-carcinoma and clinically it was associated with carcinoma of the ovary.
각종 뇌질환 환자의 진단에 있어서 Single Photon Emission CT(SPECT)와 Topographic EEG의 의의

Authors measured cerebral blood flow(CBF) with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in 43 patients with various kinds of cerebral lesions and the finding of CBF was compared to those of CT scan and topographic EEG. Of 43 patients, 14 cases were cerebral vascular insufficiency, 6 were cerebral infarction, 4 intracerebral hematoma, 2A-V malfromation, 1 moy moya disease, 8 brain contusion, 4 seizure disorder, 3 brain tumor, and one case was hydrocephalus. In measurement of rCBF, two dimensional method using radioactive isotope, Xe-133 or Kr-85 had several limitations. Recently a new radiopharmaceutical(Technetium HMPAO), ideal for SPECT was reported. Therefore SPECT of three dimensional method was widely used in measurement of CBF. After advent of CT scan, clincal use of conventional EEG was less attention, but topographic representation of the EEG data was considered beneficial in correcting the previous problems in the conventional EEG. The results were as follows : 1) Of 43 patients with brain lesions, SPECT and topographic EEG were appeared to be better method than CT scan in the diagnosis and follow-up study in patients with cerebrovascular insufficiency, mild brain contusion and seizure disorder. 2) Seizure focus could be found on SPECT and topographic EEG in patient with focal seizure who was showed to be normal on CT scan of the brain. 3) SPECT and topographical EEG might be useful tools for the diagnosis and follow-up study in patients with functional derangement rather than anatomical abnormality of the brain for example, repeated TIA, focal seizure, and dementia.
Performance Evaluation of Moving Small-Cell Network with Proactive Cache

<P>Due to rapid growth in mobile traffic, mobile network operators (MNOs) are considering the deployment of moving small-cells (mSCs). mSC is a user-centric network which provides voice and data services during mobility. mSC can receive and forward data traffic via wireless backhaul and sidehaul links. In addition, due to the predictive nature of users demand, mSCs can proactively cache the predicted contents in off-peak-traffic periods. Due to these characteristics, MNOs consider mSCs as a cost-efficient solution to not only enhance the system capacity but also provide guaranteed quality of service (QoS) requirements to moving user equipment (UE) in peak-traffic periods. In this paper, we conduct extensive system level simulations to analyze the performance of mSCs with varying cache size and content popularity and their effect on wireless backhaul load. The performance evaluation confirms that the QoS of moving small-cell UE (mSUE) notably improves by using mSCs together with proactive caching. We also show that the effective use of proactive cache significantly reduces the wireless backhaul load and increases the overall network capacity.</P>
