The acaricidal activity of the mixed plant extracts of Gleditsia japonica var. koraien, Camellia sinensis, Cinnamomum cassia, and Lantana camara, toward the tea red spider mite, Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida was evaluated in laboratory bioassays. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the adult females of T. kanzawai and yielded 87.0 and 85.6% adulticidal activity at 7 days after treatment, respectively. Mixture 3 revealed 78.7% adulticidal activity. However, mixtures 4 and 5 had lower adulticidal activity than the other treatments. The adult females of T. kanzawai treated with mixtures 1 and 3 produced only 22.5-22.8% as many eggs as did the control females. The residue of the plant extracts tested had low adulticidal activity (16.3-27.2%). All of the plant extracts tested were ineffective against the eggs of T. kanzawai. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the nymphs of T. kanzawai and led to emergence rates of 20.7 and 25.3%, respectively. These results suggest that mixtures 1 and 3 might be used for the control of T. kanzawai.

<B>Purpose: </B>PET-CT is often used to differentiate benign or malignant thyroid incidentalomas. In this retrospective study, we evaluated whether the <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG uptake pattern and PET-CT findings improved accuracy over the standardized uptake value (SUV). <B>Methods:</B> <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG PET-CT was performed on 2,178 subjects from August, 2004, to October, 2007, in Sung-ae Hospital. PET-CT was performed on 806 patients (37%) with suspected or known nonthyroidal cancer and 1,372 healthy subjects (63%) without a previous history of cancer. We investigated the clinical characteristics of patients, history, standardized uptake value (SUV), ultrasonography, and hormone levels in blood. Thyroidal cancer was confirmed by ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration and pathology after thyroid operation. <B>Results:</B> The prevalence of focal thyroid lesions on PET-CT was 8.8% (191/2178). Thyroid cancer confirmation was 7.9% (15/191). The maximum SUV of malignant thyroid lesions were significantly higher than that of benign lesions (7.00±3.08 vs. 4.49±1.84, P<0.001). <B>Conclusion:</B> PET-CT image interpretation that includes 18F-FDG uptake and SUV is better than PET-CT alone for differentiating benign and malignant lesions. 본 연구의 목적은 김만덕이 성공한 CEO로서 보여준 기업가정신을 체계적으로 살펴보고, 그녀가 지녔던 기업가정신이 우리에게 주는 시사점을 도출하는데 있다. 논문은 크게 두 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 첫 번째는 김만덕의 생애와 김만덕이 CEO로 역할을 수행했던 당시의 시대적 배경을 살펴보았다. 두 번째는 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 분석하여 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 기업가정신의 일반적인 내용을 살펴본 후, 조선시대 최초 여성 CEO 김만덕의 기업가정신을 분석하여 시사점을 찾고자 하였다. 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 파악하기 위하여 개인 차원에서 기업가정신을 연구한 Chrisman et al.(1998)이 제시한 특성 중에서 창업 경험을 제외하고 인성적 특성, 가치 및 신념, 능력, 행동적 특성 등 4가지 관점에서 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 분석하였다. 김만덕에 관한 대부분의 기록과 작품들은 김만덕의 삶과 행적을 긍정적으로 묘사하고 있다. 따라서 김만덕의 삶을 객관적으로 조명하는 가운데 김만덕이 보여준 기업가로서 의 정신적 가치를 발굴하고 현대적 관점에서 재평가하는 작업은 필요하다. 다만 제한된 지면의 사료나 자료에 의존하여 이루어진 평가이기 때문에 주의가 필요하다고 생각된다. The purpose of this paper was to identify the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok. This paper was divided into two parts : first is the Kim Man Deok s life stages and characteristic of the age, second is the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok. Kim Man Deok‘s life was divided into three time periods : fight against fate, as a CEO, donating her possession to society. And the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok were examined : personality and characteristics, values and beliefs, skills, behaviors and decisions. Kim Man Deok(1739-1812), who was living in Jeju Island. She became one of the richest persons living on Jeju Island after overcoming various difficulties in the previous 200 years. Kim Man deok was the first female CEO in Korean history. Kim Man Deok was a shrewd entrepreneur, who knew how to foresee future trends and stood apart from other great women of the Joseon era. Kim Man Deok s life inspired Jeju residents and remains one of the most respected figures.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Crack‐free three‐dimensional (3D) colloidal silica crystals are fabricated on an elastomeric polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp via the lift‐up method. A surface relief structure is fabricated on the PDMS substrate to enable the formation of colloidal crystal assemblies that cannot be achieved on a plane PDMS substrate owing to the hydrophobic nature of its surface. Four samples of uniform silica particles having different sizes are prepared for colloidal crystal assembly on PDMS substrates with various relief patterns. This strategy not only provides a means for the assembly of crack‐free colloidal crystals on a soft hydrophobic surface via the lift‐up method but enables the transfer of the crack‐free colloidal crystals onto a curved surface.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>The aim of this study was to investigate the population pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of meropenem in Korean patients with acute infections.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>The study included 37 patients with a creatinine clearance ≤50 or >50 mL/min who received a 500- or 1000-mg dose of meropenem, respectively, infused intravenously over 1 hour every 8 hours. Blood samples were collected before and at 1, 1.5, and 5 hours after the start of the fourth infusion. The population PK analysis was conducted by using nonlinear mixed effect modeling software (NONMEM). Monte-Carlo simulations were performed to identify optimal dosing regimens.</P> <P><B>Findings</B></P> <P>Thirty-seven subjects completed the study. Meropenem PK variables were well described by using a one-compartment model. The typical values (relative SE) for weight-normalized clearance (CL) and V<SUB>d</SUB> were 0.266 L/h/kg (12.29%) and 0.489 L/kg (11.01%), respectively. Meropenem CL was significantly influenced by the serum creatinine level, which explained 11% of the interindividual CK variability. The proposed equation to estimate meropenem CL in Korean patients was as follows: CL (L/h) = 0.266 × weight × [serum creatinine/0.74]<SUP>–1.017</SUP> <SUB>.</SUB> The simulation results indicate that the current meropenem dosing regimen may be suboptimal in patients infected with normal or augmented renal function.</P> <P><B>Implications</B></P> <P>Prolonged infusions of meropenem over at least 2 hours should be considered, especially in patients with augmented renal function and those infected with pathogens for which the minimum inhibitory meropenem concentration is >1 μg/mL. Our results suggest an individualized meropenem dosing regimen for patients with abnormal renal function and those infected with pathogens with decreased in vitro susceptibility.</P>

Experiments were conducted to investigated the change of primary dormancy and viability of Chinese milk vetch(CMV) seed buried in soil both as seed and pod with seeds under CMV-rice cropping system during the period of 2007~2009. The freshly harvested CMV seed alone and pods with seeds were buried in rice field at 0, 5 and 10cm depths and determined change of seed dormancy and viability at one to three month intervals for 10 months. The CMV seed had high dormancy of 95%, showing only 4~5% germination at the beginning in June but the seed dormancy was gradually broken at rice harvest time in autumn, showing 25 to 35% for seed and 55 to 61% for pod with seeds. The viability loss was faster in the seed than in the pod with seeds regardless of depths of placement in the soil base on decayed seeds. Also the seed placed on the soil surface lost viability faster than the 5~10 burial depths. However, appreciable number of CMV seeds still remained at even 4 months after burial in soil. These results indicate that seed dormancy was enable CMV plant to regenerate naturally from the remained soil seed bank at rice harvest time in autumn.

The study was carried out to evaluate the affect of proton beam radiation on production of bulbil and tuber including change of endogenous gibberellins, of Dioscorea opposita Thunb. The yield of bulbils and tubers from non- and irradiated D. opposita Thunb at doses of 5, 10, 15 and 20 Gy were determined. Endogenous gibberellins were also quantified by GC/MS analysis. D. opposita tubers irradiated at 15 Gy produced higher bulbil production than non-irradiated plants. Enlarged bulbil (above size diameter 4 mm) was significantly increased at 15 Gy. Bioactive endogenous GA4 was dominant in bulbils and tubers irradiated with proton beam rather than GA1 . Major gibberellins biosynthetic pathways in bulbils and tubers of D. opposita plants were non C-13 hydroxylation route. From the results of this study, 15 Gy proton beam radiation was suggested as an optimal dose that can produce high amounts of bulbil for mass production of D. opposita plant.
