Mechanical behavior and chloride resistance of cementitious composites with PE and steel fiber

The mechanical behaviors and chloride resistance performance of fiber reinforced cementitious composites (FRCC) with hybrid polyethylene (PE) and steel fiber (in total 2% by volume) were investigated. Based on micro-mechanics and fracture mechanics, the reason why the tensile strain capacity of FRCC changed obviously was obtained. Besides, the effects of the total surface area of fiber in FRCC on compressive strength and chloride content were clarified. It is found that the improvement of the tensile strain capacity of FRCC with hybrid fiber is attributed to the growth of strain-hardening performance index (the ratio of complementary energy to crack tip toughness). As the total surface area of fiber related with the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) between fiber and matrix increases, compressive strength decreases obviously. Since the total surface area of fiber is small, the chloride resistance performance of FRCC with hybrid PE and steel fiber is better than that of FRCC containing only PE fiber.
Industrial Process Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis Based on Temporal Attention Augmented Deep Network

Following the intuition that the local information in time instances is hardly incorporated into the posterior sequence in long short-term memory (LSTM), this paper proposes an attention augmented mechanism for fault diagnosis of the complex chemical process data. Unlike conventional fault diagnosis and classification methods, an attention mechanism layer architecture is introduced to detect and focus on local temporal information. The augmented deep network results preserve each local instance’s importance and contribution and allow the interpretable feature representation and classification simultaneously. The comprehensive comparative analyses demonstrate that the developed model has a high-quality fault classification rate of 95.49%, on average. The results are comparable to those obtained using various other techniques for the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process.

Larvae of a previously undescribed gall midge species have been feeding within malformed flower buds of goji berry Lycium barbarum L. (Solanaceae) in China, preventing fruit development and causing damage to the fruit industry. The new species is named Gephyraulus lycantha Jiao & Kolesik, its morphology is described, the COI mitochondrial gene segment is sequenced, and the biology is outlined. In order to taxonomically accommodate the new gall midge, the scope of the genus Gephyraulus is broadened and now encompasses also species that lack dorso-apical sensoria on the female cercus.
Gate-tunable current partition in graphene-based topological zero lines

<P>We demonstrate new mechanisms for gate-tunable current partition at topological zero-line intersections in a graphene-based current splitter. Based on numerical calculations of the nonequilibrium Green's functions and Landauer-Buttiker formula, we show that the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field on the order of a few Teslas allows for carrier sign dependent current routing. In the zero-field limit the control on current routing and partition can be achieved within a range of 10-90% of the total incoming current by tuning the carrier density at tilted intersections or by modifying the relative magnitude of the bulk band gaps via gate voltage. We discuss the implications of our findings in the design of topological zero-line networks where finite orbital magnetic moments are expected when the current partition is asymmetric.</P>

Members of the genus Bacillus are known to play an important role in promoting plant growth and protecting plants against phytopathogenic microorganisms. In this study, 21 isolates of Bacillus spp. were obtained from the root micro-ecosystem of Suaeda glauca. Analysis of the 16S rRNA genes indicated that the isolates belong to the species Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus velezensis, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus aryabhattai and Brevibacterium frigoritolerans. One of the interesting findings of this study is that the four strains B1, B5, B16 and B21 are dominant in rhizosphere soil. Based on gyrA, gyrB, and rpoB gene analyses, B1, B5, and B21 were identified as B. amyloliquefaciens and B16 was identified as B. velezensis. Estimation of antifungal activity showed that the isolate B1 had a significant inhibitory effect on Fusarium verticillioides, B5 and B16 on Colletotrichum capsici (syd.) Butl, and B21 on Rhizoctonia cerealis van der Hoeven. The four strains grew well in medium with 1-10% NaCl, a pH value of 5-8, and promoted the growth of Arabidopsis thaliana. Our results indicate that these strains may be promising agents for the biocontrol and promotion of plant growth and further study of the relevant bacteria will provide a useful reference for the development of microbial resources.

Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the clinical performance of APTIMA human papillomavirus (AHPV) assay and Hybrid Capture 2 (HC2) assay in screening for cervical disease, especially in women with atypical squamous cell of undetermined significance (ASC-US) and low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL). Methods: A total of 411 women diagnosed with ASC-US or LSIL were referred and further triaged by HC2 test. Prior to colposcopy, liquid-based cytology specimens were collected for the AHPV assay. Sensitivity and specificity were established based on the histological findings of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Results: In all 411 subjects, the positive detection rate of AHPV assay was 70.8% (95% confidence interval [CI], 66.4 to 75.2), which was significantly lower than the positive detection rate of 94.9% obtained using HC2 test (95% CI, 92.3 to 96.8). Only one CIN 3-positive case was detected among the 120 AHPV-negative women, which was then confirmed by Pap smear test to be LSIL. The sensitivities of AHPV and HC2 for CIN 3 were similar (94.1% and 100%, respectively). However, AHPV showed a significantly higher specificity than HC2 test (30.2% and 5.3%, respectively; p<0.001). Conclusion: AHPV assay is effective in identifying CIN 3-positive cases because of its high specificity and lower false-negative rate. The use of AHPV for the triage of ASC-US and LSIL might help to reduce the referral rate of colposcopy during cervical cancer screening.

A series of new asymmetric biphenyl dianhydrides, 2-phenoxy(o-methylphenoxy, m-methylphenoxy, and p-methylphenoxy)-4,4,5,5-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydrides, was readily synthesized using a five-step route. A new symmetric biphenyl dianhydride, 2,2-di(o-methylphenoxy)-4,4,5,5-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride, was also synthesized using the similar procedure. The polyimides were prepared from such new dianhydrides and commercial diamines by high-temperature one-step polymerization. The asymmetric and symmetric substituent solubility and thermal property relationships of the resulting polyimides were investigated. Interestingly, the thermally reversible sol–gel transitions were observed for the polymer solutions of the polyimides derived from those asymmetric dianhydrides and 1,4-phenylenediamine (p-PDA). Unexpectedly, the polyimides derived from asymmetric dianhydrides did not show better organosolubility than those of the homologous polyimides derived from symmetric dianhydrides. The structures of the substituents (phenoxy, o-methylphenoxy, m-methylphenoxy and p-methylphenoxy)have a significant effect on both the solubility and the thermal properties of these polyimides. The polyimides derived from asymmetric dianhydrides show enhanced thermal properties relative to the symmetric dianhydridesderived polyimides. These results can be attributed to their different degrees of molecular packing revealed by wideangle X-ray diffraction measurements.

A novel NIR-responsive photocatalyst NaYF4:Yb,Er@SiO2@Zn1 − xMnxO with double-layered core–shell structure was prepared by a three-step reaction. NaYF4:Yb,Er serves as a NIR-to-visible upconverter and provides “visible light” or “necessary energy” to Zn1 − xMnxO. Meanwhile, Mn2+-doping in Zn1 − xMnxO can extend the photoresponse of ZnO to visible-light region and enhance its charge separation. The nanocomposite exhibits good activity for dye decomposition and antibacterial property under NIR irradiation. The “energy absorption – energy conversion – energy transfer – surface reaction” process dominates the overall photocatalytic activity. Based on the standard MTT (abbr. for 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay, NaYF4:Yb,Er@SiO2@Zn1 − xMnxO also exhibits good biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) as model cells.
Proximal Augmented Lagrangian and Approximate Optimal Solutions in Nonlinear Programming

In this paper, we introduce some approximate optimal solutions and an augmented Lagrangian function in nonlinear programming, establish dual function and dual problem based on the augmented Lagrangian function , discuss the relationship between the approximate optimal solutions of augmented Lagrangian problem and that of primal problem, obtain approximate KKT necessary optimality condition of the augmented Lagrangian problem, prove that the approximate stationary points of augmented Lagrangian problem converge to that of the original problem. Our results improve and generalize some known results.
