Flehmen은 많은 동물에 있어 求愛과정중에 흔히 볼 수 있는 반응으로 알려져 있다. 反雛動物에 대한 최근의 연구에서 flehmen은 鋤鼻器官에 대해 어떤 pheromone 물질을 운반하는 메키니즘에 수반된 것일지도 모른다고 시사하고 있다. 그래서 이들 변화는 발정 발견을 위해 이용될 수 있을 것으로 생각 되었다. 本 實驗은 다른 동물의 尿가 같은 동물의 尿처럼 flehmen을 誘起할 수 있을지 확인하기 위하여 Saanen과 이들 雜種인 雄山羊 8頭, 雌山羊 3頭, 去勢한 山羊 3頭를 공시하였다. 尿는 15種의 哺乳動物, 3種의 鳥類,2種의 파충류 등 모두 20種을 채취하여 실험할 때까지 냉동 보존 했다. 尿는 주로 코에 spray 해주었으나 약간 굳어 있는 것에 대해서는 코로 냄새를 맡게 했다. flehmen 지속시간은 0,1-9, 20-39 및 40초 이상 등 네가지로 구분 기록하였다. 각각의 尿는 어느 山羊에 있어서도 반응을 일으켰다. Sample 間 및 번식주기에 따라 강도에 많은 차이를 나타냈다. 개체 차이가 현저했음에도 불구하고 일반적으로 雄山羊은 雌山羊보다 더 강한 반응을 보였다. 거세산 山羊은 중간형을 나타냈다. Antiandrogen을 주사한 雄山羊의 반응은 억제되는 경향이었다. 이 결과는 산양에서 flehmen이 同種에서 처럼 다른 種의 尿로 부터도 誘起될 수 있다는 것과 그리고 androgen은 이 반응을 조절하는 factor의 하나일지도 모른다는 것을 시사했다. Flehmen is well-known response which often occures during the process of courtship in most mammals. Recent studies with domestic ruminants suggest that the flehmen may be involved in the mechanism of transferring some pheromonal substances to vomeronasal organ. Thus, variety of its significance has been supposed, besides that male animals may use it for estrus detection. In this experiment, 8 male, 3 female and 3 castrated goals of Saanen and its hybrid were used to ascertain whether urine from alien species can induce flehmen as that from same species. Urine was collected from twenty species consisting of 15 mammals. 3 birds and 2 reptiles and frozen until use. Mostly urine was sprayed to the nose of goats, but some coagulated ones were sniffed. Duration of flehmen was scored to four ranks as 0, 1-19, 20-39 and >40 sec. Each urine sample induced the response in any goats. However, much differnce in the intensity was found between the samples and according to the reproductive state of the receptor goats. Although individual difference was manifest, male goats generally showed more intense respomse than did female. Castrated goats showed the intermediate pattern. Administration of antiandrogen to the male goat tended to reduce the response. The results indicate that flehmen in the goat could occur for the urine of alien species as that of same species and the androgen may be one of factors regulating the response.
Fabrication of 8Cr-2W ferritic steel tile for reduction in toroidal magnetic field ripple on JT-60U

The objectives are to fabricate the ferritic steel for the reduction in the toroidal magnetic field ripple on JT-60U. The ferritic steel (8Cr-2W-0.2V) is selected by saturated magnetization and fabrication processes with more than 20 tons melting are reported. Although the magnetic properties of the plates fabricated are clarified, the little variation is observed but the saturated magnetization is lower than expected. Additional material conditions are clarified to improve the saturated magnetization without degradation of mechanical properties but it is decided not to adapt this process on grounds of cost-effectivenessP

Study Design: Observational study.Purpose: To evaluate healthy volunteers and patients with spinal canal lesions using apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps with diffusion-weighted imaging.Overview of Literature: Decompression surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is selected on the basis of subjective assessment and cross-sectional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, there is no objective standard for this procedure.Methods: We performed 3T MRI in 10 healthy volunteers and 13 patients with LSS. The ADC values in the spinal canal were evaluated at 46 vertebrae (L4/5 and L5/S1 for each participant), and the reduced and conventional fields of view were compared.Results: The ADC values were 2.72±0.12 at L4/5 in healthy volunteers, 2.76±0.19 at L5/S1 in healthy volunteers, 1.77±0.58 at L4/5 in patients with LSS, and 2.35±0.29 at L5/S1 in patients with LSS. The ADC value at L4/5 in patients with LSS was significantly lower than that at L5/S1 in patients with LSS and that at L4/5 and L5/S1 in healthy volunteers (<i>p</i> <0.05). With an ADC cutoff value of 2.46 to identify LSS, this approach provided an area under the curve of 0.81, sensitivity of 0.92, and specificity of 0.76 (<i>p</i> <0.05).Conclusions: Preoperative examination using ADC maps permits visualization and quantification of spinal canal lesions, thus proving the utility of ADC maps in the selection of decompression surgery for LSS.
Development of a High Speed Motor Using Amorphous Metal Cores

This paper presents the development of a 10kr/min motor that utilizes the amorphous toroidal core. This motor employs a non-slotted axial gap structure with two ferrite magnet rotors and one amorphous toroidal stator. The goal of the motor is to produce a 400W output, at 90% high efficiency with a size of Φ 100×L30. The low core loss design is employed to decrease the large core losses produced by a high frequency field. The motor design equations and three dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA calculations) are presented. A prototype machine was manufactured. The structure of the prototype and the test results are presented in this paper.

Objective: Microminipig (MMP) is a miniature pig with an extra small body size for experimental use. In the present study, the occurrence of stillbirths and their genetic association with swine leukocyte antigen (SLA) class II haplotypes were evaluated in a population of MMPs. Methods: The occurrences of stillbirth and genetic association with SLA class II haplotypes using 483 stillborn and 2,246 live piglets, and their parents were compared among the three groups of newborn piglet litters; an all stillborn (AS) group consisting of only stillborn piglet litters, a partial stillborn (PS) group consisting of stillborn and live piglet litters, and an all alive (AA) group consisting of only live piglet litters. Results: The incidence of stillborn piglets was 483/2,729 (17.7%). Distributions of litter sizes, numbers of stillborn piglets in a litter, parities, and gestation periods were distinct among the three groups. The frequencies of low resolution haplotype (Lr)-0.7 or Lr-0.23 were higher in the AS group than in the PS or AA groups. In sires, the frequency of Lr-0.7 associated with the AS group was significantly higher in the AS group than with the AA group. In dams, the frequency of Lr-0.23 was significantly higher in the AS group than in the PS or AA groups, whereas the frequency of Lr-0.7 was not significantly different. Conclusion: The incidence of stillborn piglets in MMPs appears to be higher than those in other pig breeds. Several traits related with stillbirths such as the number of stillborn piglets and parities of the AS group were different from those of the PS and AA groups. Specific SLA class II haplotypes were associated significantly with a high incidence of stillbirths and could be used as genetic markers to adopt breeding strategies to lower the rate of stillbirth in MMPs.
Molecular Simulation for Adsorption of Chlorinated Hydrocarbon in Zeolites

Equilibrium and isosteric heat of adsorption for the system of chloroform and USY-type zeolite were studied. The USY-type zeolite (PQ Co., SiO₂/Al₂O₃=70) was used both as a pure crystalline powder and as granulated particles with binder. Chloroform was reagent grade. The adsorption equilibria were measured using a gravimetric method and were expressed as isotherms. A chromatographic method (i.e. pulse response of chloroform through the USY column with helium carrier) was used to get the initial slope of the isotherms. In the simulation, the GCMG method was used to calculate amounts adsorbed for various conditions. FF parameters were confidently applied. And modified structure model was effective for simulation.

Influence of precursor intermediates (PI) on the synthesis of high efficient green emitting β-Ca<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>4</SUB>:Eu<SUP>2+</SUP> (β-C<SUB>2</SUB>S:Eu) phosphors were demonstrated by a novel liquid-phase-precursor (LPP) method utilizing (a) CaCl<SUB>2</SUB>-EuCl<SUB>3</SUB>, (b) Ca(NO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>-EuCl<SUB>3</SUB>, (c) CaCl<SUB>2</SUB>-Eu(NO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>3,</SUB> and (d) Ca(NO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>-Eu(NO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB> combinations as precursors. The crystallinity and morphology of the PI analyzed using X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy measurements showed both the amorphous and crystalline type precursor intermediates (API and CPI) depending upon the metal-source materials. The final morphology and luminescence properties of β-C<SUB>2</SUB>S:Eu phosphors were found to be strongly influenced by the crystallinity (amorphous and crystalline) and morphology of the PIs. The APIs have led to regular-shaped homogeneous phosphor particles with higher luminescence when compared with the CPIs.
