      • Safety of Brucea javanica and Cantharidin Combined with Chemotherapy for Treatment of NSCLC Patients

        Objective: To assess the safety of Brucea javanica and Cantharidin combined with chemotherapy in treating patients with non-small-cell lung carcinoma. Method: A consecutive cohort of patients with NSCLC were divided into four groups: experimental group A treated with Brucea javanica injection combined with chemotherapy; experimental group B with Cantharidin injection combined with chemotherapy; experimental group C treated with Brucea javanica and Cantharidin injection combined with chemotherapy; and the control group receiving only chemotherapy. After more than two courses of treatment, safety, quality of life and side effects were evaluated. Results: The incidences of myelosuppression in groups A, B and C were lower than that in Control group (p<0.05), but without significant differences among A, B and C. Adverse effects on the gastrointestinal tract also were lower than in controls (p<0.05) without variation amnog the combined treatment groups. Conclusions: Brucea javanica or Cantharidin combined with chemotherapy could in both cases improve quality of life in our cohort of NSCLC patients without any increase in toxicity. However, further clinical experiments should be conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Brucea javanica and Cantharidin combined with chemotherapy for patients with NSCLC.

      • <i>In Situ</i> Activation of Nitrogen-Doped Graphene Anchored on Graphite Foam for a High-Capacity Anode

        <P>We report the fabrication of a three-dimensional free-standing nitrogen-doped porous graphene/graphite foam by <I>in situ</I> activation of nitrogen-doped graphene on highly conductive graphite foam (GF). After <I>in situ</I> activation, intimate “sheet contact” was observed between the graphene sheets and the GF. The sheet contact produced by <I>in situ</I> activation is found to be superior to the “point contact” obtained by the traditional drop-casting method and facilitates electron transfer. Due to the intimate contact as well as the use of an ultralight GF current collector, the composite electrode delivers a gravimetric capacity of 642 mAh g<SUP>–1</SUP> and a volumetric capacity of 602 mAh cm<SUP>–3</SUP> with respect to the whole electrode mass and volume (including the active materials and the GF current collector). When normalized based on the mass of the active material, the composite electrode delivers a high specific capacity of up to 1687 mAh g<SUP>–1</SUP>, which is superior to that of most graphene-based electrodes.       • Sex-related Differences in DNA Copy Number Alterations in Hepatitis B Virus-Associated Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Background: Males have a higher prevalence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) than females in general, but the reasons for the sex disparity are still obscure. DNA copy number alteration (CNA) is a major feature of solid tumors including HCC, but whether CNA plays a role in sex-related differences in HCC development has never been evaluated. Methods: High-resolution array comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) was used to examine 17 female and 46 male HCC patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Shanghai, China. Two-tailed Fisher's exact or ${\chi}^2$ tests was used to compare CNAs between females and males. Results: The overall frequencies and patterns of CNAs in female and male cases were similar. However, female HCC tumors presented more copy number gains compared to those in males on 1q21.3-q22 (76.5% vs. 37.0%, P = 0.009), 11q11 (35.3% vs. 0.0%, P = 0.0002) and 19q13.31-q13.32 (23.5% vs. 0.0%, P = 0.004), and loss on 16p11.2 (35.3% vs. 6.5%, P = 0.009). Relative to females, male cases had greater copy number loss on 11q11 (63.0% vs. 17.6%, P = 0.002). Further analyses showed that 11q11 gain correlated with 19q13.31-q13.32 gain (P = 0.042), 11q11 loss (P = 0.011) and 16p11.2 loss (P = 0.033), while 1q21.3-q22 gain correlated with 19q13.31-q13.32 gain (P = 0.046). Conclusions: These findings suggest that CNAs may play a role in sex-related differences in HBVassociated HCC development.

        The Band Offset at CdS/Cu2ZnSnS4 Heterojunction Interface

        The band offset at the CdS/Cu2ZnSnS4 heterojunction interface is studied by measuring the valence band spectra using synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy. The Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films are prepared by the sulfurization of electrodeposited Cu-Zn-Sn precursors. A CdS overlayer is sequentially grown on the Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films from a chemical bath deposition process. Valence band spectra were obtained before and after each period of growth to study the electronic structure at the heterojunction interface. The valence band offset was determined to be 0.96 eV, and the conduction band offset was determined to be .0.06 eV. This means that the CdS/Cu2ZnSnS4 hetrojunction has a ‘type II’ band alignment which will cause largescale recombination at the interfaces and will not be suitable for solar cells fabrication.

      • The Influence of Relative Humidity, Temperature, Insect Developmental Stages on the Susceptibility of Sweetpotato Whitefly to Conidia of Isaria javanica

        Bemisia tabaci, sweetpotato whitefly, has been recognized one of the most destructive insect pests worldwide because of increased resistance to some insecticide groups requiring alternative strategies for its control. We conducted a study of the influence of relative humidity, temperature and different developmental stages on the susceptibility of sweetpotato whitefly to conidia of Isaria javanica isolate, which had been reported high virulence against Q biotype of B. tabaci. The mortality of tobacco whitefly was low at low constant relative humidities, but was high when kept high humidity for first 24 hours and transferred to low humidity. The Isaria isolate had wide range of temperature (15℃ to 35℃) to control sweetpotato whitefly. The isolate has virulence to the egg and all developmental stages of nymph of B. tabaci. These results indicated that the isolate had good control effects at various environmental conditions and is an excellent candidate to develop a microbial pesticide to control sweetpotato whitefly.

        副词“简直”的主观性及认知依据

        副词“简直”的主观性研究向来局限于表“夸张”和“强调”上,本论文试图突破缺乏有关其主观性具体特征分析的不足,以认知语言学理论和主观性理论为基础,着重分析“简直”在主观性的两大维度――向度维度与量度维度上所表现出的特征,并阐释现象背后的原因,从而明确“简直”的语用条件。本研究认为“简直”在主观性的向度维度上表现出“顺向”、“逆向”和“偏离”这三种特征。在表达“认同”和“递进”语义的语境中,表现为顺向;在表达“否认”和“贬抑”语义的语境中,表现为逆向;在表达“意外”语义的语境中,表现为“偏离”。“简直”在主观性量度维度上表现出标示“主观增量”与“主观减量”的特征。在标示“主观增量”时,“简直”的使用意味着把等级低的“A”等同于等级高的“B”,从而衍生出夸张语义;相反,“简直”在标示“主观减量”时,其使用等于把等级高的数值视同为等级低的数值,在量度上的体现就是“主观减量”。 The research on the subjectivity of the Adverb “Jianzhi” has always been limited to “hyperbole” and “emphasis”. This paper attempts to break through the lack of analysis on the specific characteristics of its subjectivity. On the basis of cognitive linguistics theory and subjectivity theory, it focused on the analysis of the characteristics of “Jianzhi” in the two dimensions of Subjectivity——directional dimension and measurement dimension, and explained the characteristics behind the phenomenon So as to clarify the pragmatic conditions of “Jianzhi”. “Jianzhi” has three characteristics——“forward”, “reverse” and “deviation” in the directional dimension of subjectivity. In the context of expressing “identification” and “progressive” semantics, it is expressed in a straight direction; in the context of expressing “denial” and “derogation”, it is expressed in a reverse direction; in the context of expressing “accident”, it is expressed in a deviation. “Jianzhi” shows the characteristics of “subjective increment” and “subjective decrement” in the measurement dimension of subjectivity.

        副词“简直”的句法特征与语义功能研究

        副词“简直”在现代汉语中使用频率比较高,但关于其语义功能,大部分既往研究主要集中于“主观化”上,为突破这一局限,本文围绕着副词“简直”的语法特征和主要语义功能,进行了详细考察。首先在句法特征上,通过梳理与“简直”结合频率较高的结构,发现在动词性结构中呈现出的共同特点是关注事物的性质,而在形容词性结构中呈现出主要修饰高程度补语的特点。同时,本文深度挖掘了“简直”的语义功能,提出“简直”具有“非真值标记功能”和“边界功能”。前者指使用了“简直”的句子中,说话人提醒听话人“简直”句中的中心意思并非真值;后者是指“简直”在修饰程度成分时,为其设立边界,标示出该程度的界限。这两大语义功能的共同语义特征是【+默认】,因此“简直”的主要语义可以归纳为暂且默认达到(实际未达到)某种数量或达成某种结果、情状。 The adverb “Jianzhi” is used frequently in modern Chinese, but most of its previous research focused on “subjectiveness”. To break through this limitation, this paper focused on the syntactic features and main semantic functions of the adverb “Jianzhi”. Firstly, in syntactic features, by organizing the structure with high frequency of “Jianzhi”, it is found that the common feature presented in the verb structure is to pay attention to the characteristics of the nature of the things, and in the adjective structure is to show that mainly modifies the high degree of complements. Secondly, we found that “Jianzhi” has two main semantic functions. The first one is “non-true value marking function” and the other one is “boundary function”. The former means the speaker reminds the listener that the central meaning in the “Jianzhi” sentence is not true, and the latter means when “Jianzhi” is modifying the degree component, it will set a boundary for the component, indicating the degree limit. The commonality of these two semantic functions is [+ default], so the main semantics of “Jianzhi” can be summarized as a temporary default to reach a certain amount or form a certain result, situation.

        De novo malignancy after liver transplantation

        Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of de novo malignancy after liver transplantation (LT) and compare with those among the general Chinese population. Methods: A total of 466 patients who had a minimum follow-up time of 6 months were enrolled in the study. All data of medical records and follow up were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The incidence rate of de novo malignancy was 3.0% (14 in 466 patients). The median elapsed time from transplant to the diagnosis of de novo malignancy was 42 months (range, 6 to 106 months). The cumulative risk for development of de novo malignancy was 1.6%, 2.7%, and 8.2% at 3, 5 and 10 years after LT, respectively. The patients were all male. The types of de novo tumors included digestive system tumor (8 in 14), lung cancer (2 in 14), urologic neoplasm (2 in 14), and hematologic malignant tumor (2 in 14). Over a mean follow-up of 24 months after diagnosis of de novo malignancy, 7 patients (50.0%) died; the overall 5-year patient survival rate was 54.5%. The relative risk of malignancy following LT was 9.5 folds higher than the general Chinese population. Conclusion: The relative risk of malignancy following LT was much higher than the general Chinese population. Digestive system tumor is the most common type of de novo malignancy after LT in China.
