Histopathological changes and cadmium accumulations in the gills were investigated in crucian carp (Carassius auratus) exposed to 0, 0.01, 0.1, 0.5 mg/l cadmium (Cd)concentrations for 25 days. After 25 days of exposure, cadmium accumulations increased in each of the different exposure concentrations. Histopathological changes in the gills of curcian carp exposed to cadmium included the acidification of mucous cell, the terminal clubbing of lamellae, the hyperplasia of epitherial cell and the curved of secondary lamellae. The similar histopathological changes were observed once the accumulations of cadmium reached the similar levels found in the present study with the different exposure schemes. Also the acidification of mucous cell in gills appeared when cadmium accumulations reached 5 ㎍/g and more. These results suggested that histopathological changes in the gills, an appearance of mucous cell acidification, be used to estimate the relation between toxic effect and cadmium accumulations in the gills.

Primary cardiac cancer is a very rare disease, as the prevalence is 0.001 to 0.03%. Primary cardiac angiosarcoma is one of the most frequent types of primary cardiac cancers, however, is characterized by extremely poor prognosis, as the mean survival is reported to be only three to four months, and optimal treatment is unknown. Here we report a patient of primary cardiac angiosarcoma with hemorrhagic pericardial effusion who achieved a durable response with tumor excision followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy with docetaxel. A sixty year old male with underlying history of diabetes mellitus presented with rapidly progressing shortness of breath. Cardiac tamponade was diagnosed, and 420 cc of bloody fiuid was drained with pericardiocentesis. The patient`s blood pressure was restored to within normal limit after pericardial effusion drainage. Subsequent chest computed tomography scan, echocardiography and cardiac Magnetic Resonance Image revealed a 4.5x3.5cm sized infiltrative mass in the right atrium. Tumor excision was performed, of which pathologic findings revealed cardiac angiosarcoma with tumor involvement of resection margin. The patient underwent adjuvant radiotherapy (5000cGys/30fractions) with concurrent chemotherapy with docetaxel. There was no evidence of recurrence until ten months later, when multiple liver metastases were found on CT scan. Hepatic metastasectomy with periop chemotherapy with weekly paclitaxel was followed. As of Jul 2014, the patient is receiving chemotherapy with overall survival of 16 months and counting. Currently there are only three published case reports of cardiac angiosarcoma which showed response to radiation and taxane, and this is the fourth case report of successful treatment. Further investigation on this regimen is warranted.

<P>Bis-cyclometalated iridium(<SMALL>III</SMALL>) complexes [Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>ppy)<SUB>2</SUB>ZN] (FZN), [Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>CNppy)<SUB>2</SUB>ZN] (FCZN), [Ir(DMAF<SUB>2</SUB>ppy)<SUB>2</SUB>ZN] (FDZN) and [Ir(MeOF<SUB>2</SUB>ppy)<SUB>2</SUB>ZN] (MeOFZN) (F<SUB>2</SUB>ppy = 4′,6′-difluoro-2-phenylpyridinate, F<SUB>2</SUB>CNppy = 5′-cyano-4′,6′-difluoro-2-phenylpyridinate, DMAF<SUB>2</SUB>ppy = 4′,6′-difluoro-4-dimethylamino-2-phenylpyridinate, MeOF<SUB>2</SUB>ppy = 4′,6′-difluoro-4-methyl-2-phenylpyridinate and ZN = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole-<I>N</I>-carboxamide) emitting in the sky blue region were synthesized. We studied the effect of the ancillary ligand ZN and the substituents on the cyclometalating ligands on the crystal structures, photophysical and electrochemical properties and the frontier orbitals. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation results indicate that in FCZN and FDZN the cyclometalating ligands show negligible participation in the HOMO, the ancillary ligand ZN being the main participant along with the Ir(<SMALL>III</SMALL>) d-orbitals. MeOFZN exhibits the maximum photoluminescence quantum efficiency and radiative emission rates along with the dominant low frequency metal–ligand vibrations and maximum reorganization energy in the excited state. All the substituted complexes show more polar characteristics than FZN, FCZN possessing the highest dipole moment among the complexes. The performances of the solution-synthesised organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) of FZN, FCZN and FDZN doped in a blend of mCP (<I>m</I>-bis(<I>N</I>-carbazolylbenzene)) and polystyrene are studied.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>The frontier orbitals and photophysical, electrochemical, and electroluminescence properties are influenced by the cyclometalating and ancillary ligands. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b719205c'> </P>

화석연료 자동차의 배출가스로 인한 환경오염이 갈수록 심각해짐에 따라 미국, 유럽, 일본 등은 기후변화에 따른 온실가스 감축을 목표로 친환경 자동차 개발에 많은 투자를 하고 있다. 내연기관에 보조 구동원으로 모터를 사용하는 소프트 타입 하이브리드 자동차에서부터 전기만을 주 동력원으로 하는 전기자동차까지 인버터에 전력을 공급하는 배터리는 잔존량을 관리 예측하여 안정된 영역에서 사용하고 셀 간의 전압 편차가 발생했을 경우 셀 전압 편차를 밸런싱하여 특정 셀의 과충방전으로부터 배터리를 안전하게 관리하는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 배터리의 잔존량을 측정하고 밸런싱하기 위해선 배터리 단위셀의 전압, 배터리 모듈별 온도와 배터리에서 부하로 충방전되는 전류량이 필요한데, 기존에 사용하던 방식은 단위 셀마다 개별적으로 포토모스 릴레이를 사용하고 별도의 외부 아날로그/디지털 컨버터로 셀 전압 측정을 수행하였기 때문에 측정 속도가 느리고 정밀도도 낮아 배터리의 정확한 잔량 측정이 어려웠다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 8채널의 셀을 빠른 속도로 스캔하는 Mux와 셀 전압 측정용 아날로그/디지털 컨버터를 내장하고 있어 속도가 매우 빠르며 높은 정밀도를 가지는 전용칩을 적용하여 BMS ECU를 설계, 제작하였고 차량을 모사한 인버터 연계 시험을 통해 기본 성능을 평가하였다.
