For both downward and ward cement gas-liquid flow in a porous packed bed reactor the transition of gas-liquid flow pattern and liquid holdup were investigated experimentally in an air-water-Zeolite particle system. Experimental results showed that gas velocity at trickle-to-pulse flow transition boundary in the downflow system was decreased with increasing liquid velocity and that gas velocity at bubble-to-pulse flow transition boundary in the upflow system was nearly constant for lower liquid velocity, however, it was increased with increasing liquid velocity for turbulent flow region. We also found that the dynamic liquid holdup in the upflow system was higher than that in the downflow system and it was increased with increasing liquid velocity and with decreasing gas velocity. Furthermore,the dynamic liquid holdup was sensitively affected by liquid velocity at trickle flow in the downflow system while it was sensitively affected by gas velocity at bubble flow in the upflow system and at pulse flow in the downflow and upflow systems. For the porous particle system fluid velocities at gas-liquid flow transition boundaries and dynamic liquid holdup had nearly same that for the nonporous particle(glass bead) system.

In this paper, the behavior of single and pile groups under lateral load are studied through laboratory experiment. Model piles were made of brass pipe with outer diameters of 28.6mm, which are laid in loose, medium, dense sand of zigzag arrangement. The test results are as follows. As the increasing of relative density, the maximum bending moment is increased. The point of maximum bending moment on single pile measured at 5∼8B(diameter of pile) depth from surface, and group piles measured at 5∼l1B. The bending moment obtained by this experiment similiar with the one obtained by the Chang's theory.

Fibroepithelioma of Pinkus is considered a rare subtype of basal cell carcinoma with characteristic histological features. Histologically, it shows basaloid cells anastomosing strands embedded in fibrous stroma. A 66-year-old woman presented with a 1.2x0.5 cm sized solitary brownish nodule on lower back for 2 years. The nodule had gradually increased in size developing focal ulceration without subjective symptoms. Histological examination revealed thin branching and anastomosing epithelial strands were embedded in a fibrous stoma, in connection with the epidermis. In addition, basaloid cells were palisaded at the periphery of the tumor. Based on the clinical and histopathological features, the patient was diagnosed with fibroepithelioma of Pinkus, a rare histologic variant of basal cell carcinoma. The tumor was totally excised and the patient has shown no evidence of recurrence for 5 months. Herein, we report a case of fibroepithelioma of Pinkus, which has rarely been reported in the dermatologic literatures in Korea.

Guttate psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by erythematous eruption of small papules over the upper trunk and proximal extremities, found frequently in young adults. Molluscum contagionsum is a type of molluscipoxvirus infection that most often affects young children. It is characterized by smooth, dome-shaped, discrete, flesh-colored papules and occasionally develops surrounding areas of scale and erythema. A 7-year-old girl presented with multiple dome-shaped skin-colored to erythematous papules on upper trunk and extremities for 1 year. From clinical features, the lesions were suspected of mollucsum contagiosum but the microscopic examination with potassium hydroxide for molluscum body was negative. Histological examination revealed regular elongation of rete ridge and dilated blood vessels in dermal papillae. In the epidermis, spongiform pustule of Kogoj in spinous layer and neutrophilic collections within the parakeratotic cornified layer were prominent. Based on the histopathological features, she was finally diagnosed with guttate psoriasis and successfully treated with weekly narrow-band ultraviolet B therapy. Herein, we present a case of guttate psoriasis in a young girl clinically mimicking molluscum contagiosum.
Anti-adipogenic Effect and Mechanism in 3T3-L1 Preadipocytes by Cyclosporin A, an Immunosuppressant

Adipogenesis, also called the differentiation of preadipocytes, leads to the phenotype of mature adipocytes. However, excessive adipogenesis is closely linked to the development of obesity. Cyclosporin A, a neutral lipophilic cyclic undecapeptide isolated from the fungus Hypocladium inflatum gams, is known for several biological activities, including immunosuppression and anti-inflammation. Little is known about the relationship between cyclosporin A and obesity. In this study, we investigated the effect of cyclosporin A on adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 murine preadipocytes. 3T3-L1 preadipocyte differentiation was evaluated by Oil Red O staining and AdipoRed assay. The expression and phosphorylation levels of adipogenesis-related proteins in differentiating 3T3-L1 cells were evaluated by Western blotting. The mRNA expression levels of adipogenesis-related proteins in differentiating 3T3-L1 cells were measured by RT-PCR. Cyclosporin A considerably inhibited lipid accumulation and reduced triglyceride (TG) contents during the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes into adipocytes in a concentration-dependent manner, suggesting its anti-adipogenic effect. Treatment with cyclosporin A at the concentrations tested was not cytotoxic to 3T3-L1 cells. Mechanistically, at a 10 μM concentration, cyclosporin A strongly down-regulated the protein and mRNA expressions of two adipogenic transcription factors, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-α (C/EBP-α) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) in differentiating 3T3-L1 cells. Furthermore, at a 10 μM concentration, cyclosporin A reduced the phosphorylation levels of signal transducers and activator of transcription-3 (STAT-3), other adipogenic transcription factor, and suppressed the protein and mRNA expressions of perilipin A, a protein that binds to and stabilizes lipid droplets, in differentiating 3T3-L1 cells. However, treatment with 10 μM of cyclosporin A did not modulate the protein and mRNA expressions of fatty acid synthase during 3T3-L1 preadipocyte differentiation. Collectively, these results show that cyclosporin A inhibits adipogenesis in differentiating 3T3-L1 cells, and that this inhibition is mediated through the reduced expression and phosphorylation levels of C/EBP-α, PPAR-γ, perilipin A, and STAT-3.
