인삼의 산지판별을 위한 전자코의 Conducting Polymer 센서와 Metal Oxide 센서의 이용

인삼의 원산지를 확인하기위하여 전자코를 사용하였다. 농산물에서 배출되는 가스성분을 아무런 전처리 과정 없이 coducting polymer센서와 metal oxide 센서를 각각 사용하였을 때와 동시에 함께 사용하였을 때 정준판별분석결과 두 가지 형태의 센서를 활용하였을 때 인삼의 산지를 뚜렷하게 판별할 수 있었다. The habitats of ginseng was investigated by using electronic nose without any pretreatment. Metal oxide sensor and conduction polymer sensor as a sensing material were used, respectively and also used both of them. The difference of Canonical discriminant scores in case of using both rather than one sensor was distinctly shown. The separation of Chinese ginseng and the locally produced one could be obtained by using composite sensing systems of electronic nose.

An unusual case of neurocutaneous melanosis is presented. The patient had congenital dermal nevi, and displayed multicentric malignant cerebral melanoma associated with hydrocephalus and seizure in adult life. This suggests that a patient with congenital dermal nevus or marked generalized cutaneous pigmentation should be closely observed for the development of malignant melanoma of the nervous system.

LG생활건가에서 생산되는 액체 주방세제의 환경성을 조사하기 위하여 전과정평가를 실시하였다. 제품별 전과정목록표를 도출하였으며, 이를 이용하여 수계생태독성, 지구온난화, 광화학스모그, 인간독성, 산성화, 부영양화에 대한 영향평가를 수행하였다. 그 결과, 제품 전과정 가운데 제품 계기단계에서 환경영향이 가장 높게 나타났고, 특히 수계생태독성에 의한 영향이 높게 나타났다. 주방세제의 환경지수에 영향을 미치는 원인물질을 찾아내고 개선물질로 대체하여 환경지수가 18% 감소한 제품을 개발하였다. With the kitchen detergents produced by LG Household & Healthcare, we performed life cycle assessment to examine their environmental properties. Life cycle inventories of kitchen detergent were drawn, and the impact assessment on six categories including aquatic eotoxicity, global warming, photochemical oxidant formation, human toxicity, acidification, and eutrophication was made using the inventories. As a result, it was found that environmental load is the highest at the end of life, and the worst impact category is aquatic ecotoxicity. We found the major ingredient determining environmental indicator and replaced it with more environmentally friendly material, so that the product of 18%-improved environmental indicator was developed.
나일틸라피아 치어에 미치는 염화나트륨, 포르말린 및 과망간산칼륨의 급성독성

염화나트륨(Nacl), 포르말린 및 과망간산칼륨(KMnO_4)에 대한 나일틸라피아, Oreochromis niloticus의 24시간 급성 독성을 조사하였다. 1. NaCl의 24시간 LC_50값은 18.6‰이었고 95% 신뢰한계의 상한치는 18.7‰, 하한치는 18.5‰이었다. 포르말린의 24시간 LC_50값은 152ppm이었고, 상한치는 156ppm, 하한치는 148ppm이었다. KMnO_4의 24시간 LC_50값은 2.09ppm이었고 상한치는 2.11ppm, 하한치는 2.07ppm이었다. 2. 모든 처리 화합물은 본 종에 대해 좁은 농도 범위 내에서 급성 독성 효과를 나타내었으며, 아울러 뚜렷한 농도 의존성을 보였다. 이상의 결과를 본 연구에서 사용된 3가지 화합물의 틸라피아 양식에서의 유용성과 연관시켜 논의하였다. A study on the acute toxicity in the Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus fry showed that the 24hr-LC_50 was 18.6‰ for NaCl, 152 ppm for formaline and 2.1 ppm for KMnO_4. The fry responded to narrow range of concentration of all the tested chemicals and their toxic effects were dose-dependent.

Suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) is known to playa key role as a negative feedback regulator in JAK/STAT signaling cascade in innate immunity. Our laboratory has recently been interested in elucidating the interactions between Spodoptera exigua (Se) and SeNPV. This context leads us to clone and characterize SeSOCS that may have important functions in response to SeNPV infection. Using the RT-PCR and TA cloning approach, we found a partial fragment (416 bp) of SeSOCS. Blast search and multiple alignment data showed that it has a homology to various insects such as Anopheles gambiae (78%), Aedes aegypti (75%), Drosophila melanogastar (77%), Mus musculus (69%), and Homo sapiens (69%). Temporal induction patterns of SeSOCS were analysed after being immune-challenged with either NPV or laminarin. It showed that the level of SeSOCS mRNA was strongly induced in a biphasic manner in response to SeNPV and laminarin, respectively. It seems that SOCS, a negative regulator of JAK/STAT signaling system is also present in S. exigua and may playa role in innate immunity albeit its precise role should be further elucidated at the molecular and cellular level in the early phase of SeNPV infection in larvae.

Purpose: The relationship between treatment outcomes, alteration of the expression of biological markers, and tumor volume response during radiotherapy (RT) in patients with uterine cervical cancer was analyzed. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma received definitive RT with (n = 17) or without (n = 3) concurrent chemotherapy. Tumor volumes were measured by three serial magnetic resonance imaging scans at pre-, mid-, and post-RT. Two serial punch biopsies were performed at pre- and mid-RT, and immunohistochemical staining for cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and epidermal growth factor receptor was performed. The median follow-up duration was 60 months. Results: The median tumor volume response at mid-RT (V2R) was 0.396 (range, 0.136 to 0.983). At mid-RT, an interval increase in the distribution of immunoreactivity for COX-2 was observed in 8 patients, and 6 of them showed poor mid-RT tumor volume response ($V2R{\geq}0.4$). Four (20%) patients experienced disease progression after 10 to 12 months (median, 11 months). All 4 patients had poor mid-RT tumor volume response (p = 0.0867) and 3 of them had an interval increase in COX-2 expression. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) decreased in patients with $V2R{\geq}0.4$ (p = 0.0291 for both). An interval increase in COX-2 expression at mid-RT was also associated with a decreased survival (p = 0.1878 and 0.1845 for OS and PFS, respectively). Conclusion: Poor tumor volume response and an interval increase in COX-2 expression at mid-RT decreased survival outcomes in patients with uterine cervical cancer.

Suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) is known to be as a negative feedback regulator in Janus kinase signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling. Highly conserved SOCS box domain was cloned from a Korean malaria vector, Anopheles sinensis. Sequence analysis indicates that it has identity to Anopheles gambiae (96%), Aedes aegypti (94%), Drosophila melanogaster (78%), Mus musculus (72%) and Homo sapiens (72%), respectively. Tissue specificity RT-PCR demonstrated that the expression level of AsSOCS transcript was high at abdomen, midgut, and ovary, whereas developmental expression patterns showed that the level of AsSOCS was high at egg, early pupae, and adult female. On the other hand, RT-PCR analysis after bacterial challenge showed that SOCS mRNA was strongly induced in larvae. In addition, it was also induced by various immune elicitors such as lipoteicoic acid, CpG-DNA, and laminarin. It seems that AsSOCS, repressor of JAK-STAT pathway, is highly conserved in mosquito, and may play an important role in mosquito innate immune response.
