The causative factors were analyzed clinicostatically on 113 patients who were dead among 1591 head injured patients during recent 3 years from March, 1983. The conclusions are as follows : 1) The mortality ratio of male to female is 2.9 to 1 and especially 3rd to 5th decade is the most prevalent age group(64 cases, 56.6%). 2) The most common mode of injury is motor vehicle accident(71 cases, 62.8%), followed by fall down and struck on the head in the order of frequency. 3) The 60 cases(53.1%) are in the category of lower GCS(Glasgow Coma Scale) score (≤7). 4) The operative intervention does not appear to have any influence on patient's survival time. 5) The abnormal motor and pupil responses are shown on 72 cases(64%) and 75 cases(66%), respectively. 6) The diffuse brain swellings are frequently shown in young age group(<20yr). 7) The leading causes of death are ⑴ Mass lesion and contusion in cases of lower GCS score(≤7) and shorter survival time, and ⑵ Chest complications and G-Ⅰ bleeding in cases of higher GCS score(≥8)and longer survival time.

1988 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.17 No.1
The growing skull fracture represents a particular type of evolution of cranial fracture in young children, and has also been called leptomeningeal cyst. This rare fracture usually occurrs in the parietal region of the skull in infancy, and underlying dura tear is the single most important factor in the process. We are reporting a patient with a posttraumatic growing skull fracture that we have treated surgically.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare denture wearer's evaluation and clinician's technical rating for complete denture used on edentulous patients. Materials and methods: Total 43 edentulous patients who had complete denture fabricated more than one year ago were recalled. The questionnaire based on the various literatures was modified and applied to patients for subjective assessments. Functional aspects related to retention, stability, occlusion and denture condition were included in operator's evaluation. In addition, correlations were evaluated between patient's subjective and operator's objective assessments. Friedman test and Cohen's Kappa value were used for statistical analysis. Results: It was found that denture wearers' evaluations were slightly or fairly agree to clinician's rating for complete denture. More differences were found in maxillary denture than mandibular denture and moderate difference was found in esthetic, occlusion aspects. Conclusion: There were slightly or fairly agreement between subjective and objective evaluations.
