The authors made a study on the species and distribution of helminths in dairy cattle. And a experimental survey of the blood picture of 25 heads of Korean native cattle that infested Fasciola spp. The samples (feces) from 1,689 heads ware examined in Kyong-gi province. The results are summarized as follows ; (1) In 17.8% of the cases, single infestation leas seen arid 3.9% mixed infestation of over double, respectively. (2) Distrbution and infestation rate (%) of helminths among the samples are Paramphistomum spp. 21.7%, Strongyloides spp. 5.6%, Fasciola spp. 5.3% Trichostrongylus spp. 3.4%, Oesophagostomum radiatum 2.2%, Moniezia spp. 1.7%, and other species of total 9.5%, respectively. (3) It's high difference of infestation rate that geographical analysis, and comparated between dairy cattle and Korean native cattle. (4) In the cases of single infestation in Fasciola spp., there is a remarkable variation with normal value, comparing with high eosinophil, and there is a symbol of decrease with nuber of erythrocyte (R.B.C.).
Probabilistic dynamic analysis of truss structures

The problem of dynamic analysis of truss structures based on probability is studied in this paper. Considering the randomness of both physical parameters (elastic module and mass density) of structural materials and geometric dimension of bars respectively or simultaneously, the stiffness and mass matrixes of the elements and structure have been built. The structure dynamic characteristic based on probability is analyzed, and the expressions of numeral characteristics of inherence frequency random variable are derived from the Rayleigh's quotient. The method of structural dynamic analysis based on probability is developed. Finally, two examples are given.

Suppression of hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation and proliferation, and induction of apoptosis in activated HSCs have been proposed as therapeutic strategies for the treatment and prevention of the hepatic fibrosis. We previously showed that 2',4',6'-tris(methoxymethoxy) chalcone (TMMC), a synthesized chalcone derivative, inhibits platelet-derived growth factor-induced HSC proliferation at 5-20μM. Here, we showed that TMMC induces apoptosis in activated HSCs at higher concentrations (30-50μM), but is not cytotoxic to primary hepatocytes. Moreover, TMMC induces hyperacetylation of histone by inhibiting histone deacetylase (HDAC) in activated HSCs. Interestingly, TMMC treatment remarkably increased Fas-ligand (FasL) mRNA expression in a dose-dependent manner. Cycloheximide treatment reversed the induction of TMMC on apoptosis, indicating that de novo protein synthesis was required for TMMC-induced apoptosis in activated HSCs. In addition, FasL synthesis by TMMC is closely associated with maximal procaspase-3 proteolytic processing. In vivo, TMMC reduced activated HSCs in CCl<SUB>4</SUB>-intoxicated rats during liver injury recovery, as demonstrated by α-smooth muscle actin expression in rat liver. TMMC treatment also resulted in apoptosis, as demonstrated by cleavage of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase in rat liver. In conclusion, TMMC may have therapeutic potential by inducing HSC apoptosis for the treatment of hepatic fibrosis.

<P>Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an angiogenic cytokine that stimulates the differentiation and function of vascular endothelial cells. VEGF has been implicated in improving nervous system function after injury. However, uncontrolled overexpression of VEGF increases the risk of tumor formation at the site of gene delivery. For this reason, VEGF expression needs to be strictly controlled. The goal of the present study was to understand the effects of hypoxia-induced gene expression system to control VEGF gene expression in neural stem cells (NSCs) on the regeneration of neural tissue after sciatic nerve injury. In this study, we used the erythropoietin (Epo) enhancer-SV40 promoter system (EpoSV-VEGF-NSCs) for hypoxia-specific VEGF expression. We used three types of NSCs: DsRed-NSCs as controls, SV-VEGF-NSCs as uncontrolled VEGF overexpressing NSCs, and EpoSV-VEGF-NSCs. For comparison of VEGF expression at normoxia and hypoxia, we measured the amount of VEGF secreted. VEGF expression decreased at normoxia and increased at hypoxia for EpoSV-VEGF-NSCs; thus, EpoSV-VEGF-NSCs controlled VEGF expression, dependent upon oxygenation condition. To demonstrate the therapeutic effect of EpoSV-VEGF-NSCs, we transplanted each cell line in a neuropathic pain sciatic nerve injury rat model. The transplanted EpoSV-VEGF-NSCs improved sciatic nerve functional index (SFI), mechanical allodynia, and re-myelination similar to the SV-VEGF-NSCs. Additionally, the number of blood vessels increased to a level similar to that of the SV-VEGF-NSCs. However, we did not observe tumor generation in the EpoSV-VEGF-NSC animals that were unlikely to have tumor formation in the SV-VEGF-NSCs. From our results, we determined that EpoSV-VEGF-NSCs safely regulate VEGF gene expression which is dependent upon oxygenation status.
