        Effects of Traditional Acupuncture on Colonic Motility in the Rat with Colitis

        The aims of this study were to investigate the efficacy of acupuncture on myoelectrical activity of inflamed or normal colon in the rat, and whether the effect of acupuncture on colonic motility was related to endogenous opioids. Twenty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups. Experimental groups were normal group (n=8), colitis group (n=6) and naloxone group (n=8). Stainless steel bipolar electrodes were implanted on the serosal layer of the proximal colon of rats. Colitis was induced 7 days after electrode implantation using trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid (TNBS) and ethanol. Electromyograms (EMG) were recorded by using polygraph 11 days after implantation of electrodes. In normal group, normal colonic motility was recorded for 60min, and then traditional acupuncture at GV-1 was applied for 20min and EMG was recorded for further 60min in untreated rats. In colitis group, after recording of basal colonic motility for 60min, 20min of acupuncture treatment and further EMG recording was performed for 60min in TNBS/ethanol treated rats. In naloxone group, following subcutaneous administration of naloxone (3mg/kg), recording of EMG and acupuncture treatment were performed in TNBS/ethanol treated rats. In the normal group, acupuncture at GV-1 did not induce significant changes in colonic motility. TNBS/ethanol treatment had no significant effect on the frequency of colonic motility. And in colitis group, GV-1 acupuncture significantly decreased colonic motility (p<0.01). In naloxone group, after injection of naloxone, acupuncture at GV-1 did not change colonic motility in TNBS/ethanol treated rats. On the inflamed colon, naloxone blocked the effect of acupuncture. The present results suggested that endogenous opioids released by acupuncture at GV-1 decrease the motility of inflamed colon in rats, but not normal colon.

        Band gap tunable and improved microstructure characteristics of Cu2ZnSn(S1-x,Sex)4 thin films by annealing under atmosphere containing S and Se

        Cu2ZnSn(SxS1-x)4 (CZTSSe) thin films were prepared by annealing a stacked precursor prepared on Mo coated glass substrates by the sputtering technique. The stacked precursor thin films were prepared from Cu, SnS2, and ZnS targets at room temperature with stacking orders of Cu/SnS2/ZnS. The stacked precursor thin films were annealed using a tubular two zone furnace system under a mixed N2 (95%) þ H2S (5%) þ Se vaporization atmosphere at 580 ℃ for 2 h. The effects of different Se vaporization temperature from 250 C to 500 ℃ on the structural, morphological, chemical, and optical properties of the CZTSSe thin films were investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed that the annealed thin films had a single kesterite crystal structure without a secondary phase. The 2q angle position for the peaks from the (112) plane in the annealed thin films decreased with increasing Se vaporization temperature. Energy dispersive X-ray results showed that the presence of Se in annealed thin films increased from 0 at% to 42.7 at% with increasing Se vaporization temperatures. UVeVIS spectroscopy results showed that the absorption coefficient of all the annealed thin films was over 104 cm-1 and that the optical band gap energy decreased from 1.5 eV to 1.05 eV with increasing Se vaporization temperature.

      • Mutational signatures according to the stage of lung adenocarcinoma in Korea

        Purpose: There are many somatic mutations in lung cancer, and many biological processes that cause mutations in somatic cells leave a mutational signature. The purpose of this study is to identify the mutational signature according to the stage of lung adenocarcinoma in Korea. Methods: A total of 103 specimens from patients diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma were obtained and NGS based repeated deep sequencing was performed. The single nucleotide variation detected by the test was converted to maf.file and mutational signatures according to the stage of lung cancer analyzed by applying a computational framework for mutational signature model proposed by Alexandrov et al. The mutational signature nomenclature is that used in the Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC). Results: As a result of mutational signature analysis with stage I lung cancer, signature 5 (cosine similarity=0.656, unknown etiology) was the most significant result. With stage II lung cancer, signature 7 (cosine similarity=0.742, UV exposure) was the most significant result and with stage III lung cancer, signature 30 (cosine similarity=0.777, unknown etiology) was the most significant result. In this study, the number of patients with stage IV lung cancer was small and there were no significant results. Conclusions: The risk factors for lung cancer other than smoking,the exact cause has not been clarified, they are presumed to have left a mutational signature. In addition, the mutational signatures according to the stage of lung adenocarcinoma in Korean patients showed different result.

      • A Case of Recurrent Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis with Weak Asthmatic Symptoms

        Introduction: Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is a pulmonary disease with small prevalence. Exposure to aspergillus mold causes immunologic hypersensitivity and may cause minimal symptoms to detrimental outcomes. Diagnosing and treating the disease before development of bronchiectasis may save the patient from poor outcomes. This report presents a case of advanced allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis with mild symptoms. Case: 71-year-old woman was admitted due to mild, afebrile dyspnea with small amount of blood-tinged sputum for about a week. Her record showed four previous admissions due to recurrent lung infiltrations at different lung areas for which she had no or mild symptoms. These recurrent lesions improved without systemic steroid. The chest CT taken during this admission presented large consolidation with central bronchiectasis and mucoid bronchial impaction in the right upper lung. The laboratory report presented peripheral eosinophilia and high total IgE level (eosinophil count 1170 cells/mm3, total IgE 1714 kU/L). Although the patient has never experienced chronic lower airway symptoms (wheezing, dyspnea, or cough), she presented with mildly obstructive lung (FEV1% 86%, FVC% 92%, FEV1/FVC 68%) and bronchial hyper-responsiveness (PC20 = 4.6 mg/ml). Additionally, serum specific IgE to Aspergillus fumigatus and the intradermal test with identical antigen revealed positive results. The patient``s clinical findings satisfied the diagnostic criteria of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. The patient received systemic corticosteorid and itraconazole.
