Four novel mutations in the androgen receptor gene from Vietnamese patients with androgen insensitivity syndrome

Nguyen Thu Hien,Nguyen Duc Quan,Kim Lien Nguyen Thi,Thi Thanh Ngan Nguyen,Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai,Tran Ngoc Dung,Nguyen Huy Hoang 한국유전학회 2023 Genes & Genomics Vol.45 No.4

Background Androgens and androgen receptor (AR) are critical regulators of the masculinization process in male sexual development. The absence of a functioning AR results in the development of the androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), a rare disorder of sexual development (DSD) characterized by the external genitalia feminization, gynecomastia, and impaired spermatogenesis. Objective To determine the AR gene mutations associated with male DSD in four unrelated Vietnamese patients. Methods To detect the disease-causing mutations, whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed on four patients diagnosed with AIS. Sanger sequencing was then used for validation of the identified mutations. Finally, 12 web-based tools, three-dimensional protein modeling software, and the guidelines issued by the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics were used to assess the potential pathogenicity of these mutations. Results Four distinct novel mutations, namely c.1834T > A (p.Cys612Ser), c.2122 C > G (p.Leu708Val), c.2630T > G (p.Phe877Cys), and c.2641 C > A (p.Leu881Met) in the AR gene, were identified in four AIS patients using WES. The in silico analysis results revealed that the Cys612, Leu708, Phe877, and Leu881 sites are important for an appropriate response to androgens of the AR, and mutation at these sites can have adverse effects on the AR functions, androgen–AR interaction, and AR signaling pathway. Conclusions WES and in silico analyses strongly suggested that four novel AR mutations are pathogenic and have led to the development of AIS in the four Vietnamese patients under consideration.

Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy based on portal ramification of the right anterior section: A prospective multicenter experience with short-term outcomes

        Truong Giang Nguyen,Thanh Khiem Nguyen,Ham Hoi Nguyen,Hong Son Trinh,Tuan Hiep Luong,Minh Trong Nguyen,Van Duy Le,Hai Dang Do,Kieu Hung Nguyen,Van Minh Do,Quang Huy Tran,Cuong Thinh Nguyen 한국간담췌외과학회 2024 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.28 No.1

Backgrounds/Aims: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy (Ps–AH) based on portal ramification of the right anterior section (RAS) is a new technique to avoid unnecessarily transecting too much liver parenchyma, especially in cases of major anatomical hepatectomy. Methods: We prospectively assessed 26 patients with primary hepatic malignancies having undergone major Ps–AH based on portal ramification of the RAS from August 2018 to August 2022 (48 months). The perioperative indications, clinical data, intra-operative index, pathological postoperative specimens, postoperative complications, and follow-up results were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Among the 26 patients analyzed, there was just one case that had intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma The preoperative level of α– Fetoprotein was 25.2 ng/mL. All cases (100%) had Child–Pugh A liver function preoperatively. The ventral/dorsal RAS was preserved in 19 and 7 patients, respectively. The mean surgical margin was 6.2 mm. The mean surgical time was 228.5 minutes, while the mean blood loss was 255 mL. In pathology, 5 cases (19.2%) had microvascular invasion, and in the group of HCC patients, 92% of all cases had moderate or poor tumor differentiation. Six cases (23.1%) of postoperative complications were graded over III according to the Clavien–Dindo system, including in three patients resistant ascites or intra-abdominal abscess that required intervention. Conclusions: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy based on portal ramification of the RAS to achieve R0-resection was safe and effective, with favorable short-term outcomes. This technique can be used widely in clinical practice.

Magnetocaloric Effect in Fe-Ni-Zr Alloys Prepared by Using the Rapidly-quenched Method

Nguyen Huy Dan,Nguyen Huu Duc,Tran Dang Thanh,Nguyen Hai Yen,Ngac An Bang,Do Thi Kim Anh,판더롱,유성초 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12

Fe90−xNixZr10 (x = 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25) ribbons with various thicknesses were prepared byusing a melt-spinning technique. The Curie temperature, TC, of the alloys dramatically decreasedfrom 960 K to room temperature at high quenching rates. When the alloys had an amorphousstructure, their TC strongly depended on the Ni concentration. The maximum entropy change,|Sm|max, with H = 12 kOe, of the alloys was around 1 J·kg−1K−1 at room temperature. Onthe other hand, the full width at half maximum the entropy-change peak was quite large, 85 K,which was suitable for applications in magnetic refrigerators at room temperature.

Oscillation reduction for artificial potential field using vector projections for robotic manipulators

Huy Nguyen Tran,신진재,지경섭,문형필 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.7

This paper proposes a method of reducing oscillations for integrations of the artificial potential field algorithm in real-time robot manipulator path planning using proximity sensors. Proximity sensing is a technology that has the potential to play an essential role in the development of robotics. It can fulfill the promise of safe, robust, and autonomous systems in industry and everyday life alongside humans by enabling the ability of online and fast-reacting motions without the need for visual mapping. In this context, the artificial potential field technique is one of the most suitable methods for path planning due to its simplicity of application and efficiency in real-time systems without the need for global mapping. Despite its efficiency, this technique is known to be susceptible to problems such as local minima and oscillations within the overall path. To solve this problem, a method of reducing the oscillations is proposed by modifying the direction of the repulsive force to follow its orthogonal projection onto the attractive force. Since with conventional repulsive motions, the robot only moves in one direction, opposite to the obstacles, this approach has better exploitation of the redundancy space to maintain the task motion and is less likely to get stuck in local minima. The effectiveness of this proposed method is demonstrated through simulations on real robot manipulators in comparison with the original artificial potential field technique.

      • Strut-and-tie model for shear capacity of corroded reinforced concrete columns

Tran, Cao Thanh Ngoc,Nguyen, Xuan Huy,Nguyen, Huy Cuong,Vu, Ngoc Son Techno-Press 2020 Advances in concrete construction Vol.10 No.3

An analytical model is developed in this paper to predict the shear capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) columns with corroded transverse reinforcements. The shear strength model for corroded RC columns is proposed based on modifying the existing strut-and-tie model, which considers the deformational compatibility between truss and arch mechanisms. The contributions to the shear strength from both truss and arch mechanisms are incorporated in the proposed model. The effects of corrosion level of transverse reinforcements are considered in the proposed model through the minimum residual cross-sectional area of transverse reinforcements and the reduction of concrete compressive strength for the cover area. The shear strengths calculated from the developed model are compared with the experimental results from Vu's study (2017), which consisted of RC columns with corroded transverse reinforcements showing shear failure under the cyclic loading. The comparison results indicate satisfactory correlations. Parametric studies are conducted based on the developed shear strength model to explore the effects of column axial loading, aspect ratios, transverse reinforcements and the corrosion levels in transverse reinforcements to the shear strength of RC columns with corroded transverse reinforcements.

Tomographic density imaging using modifi ed DF–DBIM approach

Tran Quang Huy,Nguyen Thi Cuc,Van Dung Nguyen,Ton That Long,Tran Duc Tan 대한의용생체공학회 2019 Biomedical Engineering Letters (BMEL) Vol.9 No.4

Ultrasonic computed tomography based on back scattering theory is the most powerful and accurate tool in ultrasound basedimaging approaches because it is capable of providing quantitative information about the imaged target and detects verysmall targets. The duple-frequency distorted Born iterative method (DF–DBIM), which uses density information along withsound contrast for imaging, is a promising approach for imaging targets at the level of biological tissues. With two frequenciesf 1 (low) and f 2 (high) through 1and 2iterations respectively, this method is used to estimate target density along withsound contrast. The implications of duple-frequency fusion for the image reconstruction quality of density information alongwith sound contrast based ultrasound tomography have been analyzed in this paper. In this paper, we concentrate on theselection of parameters that is supposed to be the best to improve the reconstruction quality of ultrasound tomography. Whenthere are restraints imposed on simulated scenarios to have control of the computational cost, the iteration number 1isdetermined resulting in giving the best performance. The DF–DBIM is only eff ective if there are a moderate number of iterations, transmitters and receivers. In case that the number of transducers is either too large or too small, a result of reconstructionwhich is better than that of the single frequency approach is not produced by the implementation of DF–DBIM. A fi xedsum of 1and 2was given, the investigation of simulation results shows that the best value of 1is[2− 1]. Theerror, when applying this way of choosing the parameters, will be normalized with the reduction of 56.11%, compared touse single frequency as used in the conventional DBIM method. The target density along with sound contrast is used to imagetargets in this paper. It is a fact that low-frequency off ers fi ne convergence, and high-frequency off ers fi ne spatial resolution. Wherefore, this technique can eff ectively expand DBIM’s applicability to the problem of biological tissue reconstruction. Thanks to the usage of empirical data, this work will be further developed prior to its application in reality.

Healthcare Workers’ Knowledge and Attitudes Regarding the World Health Organization’s “My 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene”: Evidence From a Vietnamese Central General Hospital

        Huy Van Nguyen,Hieu Trung Tran,Long Quynh Khuong,Thanh Van Nguyen,Na Thi Nhi Ho,An Thi Minh Dao,Minh Van Hoang 대한예방의학회 2020 예방의학회지 Vol.53 No.4

Objectives: Although the World Health Organization (WHO) initiative “My 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene” has been lauded as effective in preventing hospital-associated infections, little is known about healthcare workers (HCWs)’ hand hygiene behavior. In this study, we sought to assess knowledge and attitudes towards the concepts in this initiative, as well as associated factors, among Vietnamese HCWs at a general hospital. Methods: A structured questionnaire was administered to HCWs at a central Vietnamese general hospital in 2015. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with HCWs’ knowledge and attitudes towards hand hygiene. Results: Of 120 respondents, 65.8% and 67.5% demonstrated appropriate knowledge and a positive attitude, respectively, regarding all 5 hand hygiene moments. Logistic regression indicated better knowledge of hand hygiene in workers who were over 30 years old, who were direct HCWs (rather than managers), who had frequent access to clinical information, and who received their clinical information from training. Those who worked in infectious and tropical disease wards, who had frequent access to clinical information, and who received information from training were more likely to have a positive attitude towards hand hygiene than their counterparts. Conclusions: Although many Vietnamese HCWs displayed moderate knowledge and positive attitudes towards the WHO hand hygiene guidelines, a key gap remained. Regular education and training programs are needed to increase knowledge and to improve attitudes and practices towards hand hygiene. Furthermor
